Good Shepherd Gardens
(A Christian Mausoleum for Christian Burial)
Good Shepherd Gardens Mausoleum was built in the fall of 1999. It is solely owned and operated by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Good Shepherd Gardens
(The Purpose for Building Our Mausoleum)
Good Shepherd Gardens Mausoleum was built because people in the Kenosha and Pleasant Prairie area expressed an interest in having a burial site which was non-commercial in nature. They desired a place to be buried on Church property. Some have said, "Now this is the way it used to be. How often don’t you travel to central Wisconsin and find cemeteries behind the local Church." So it was that in 1999, the members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church authorized the construction and operation of our own private mausoleum cemetery.
The most important purpose for the Good Shepherd Gardens Mausoleum is to promote Christian education. The congregation of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church decided that every penny that is generated from the sale of niches and crypts will go to Christian education. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is in the process of building a Christian Day School and all the funds generated from the sale of burial sites will be used to build our school. The philosophy of our cemetery is, "The past generation shall provide Christ to the Next Generation." Thus, the Next Generation School Fund is a fund that will supply the financial resources for the construction of our Christian Day School. The Mausoleum funds support the Next Generation School Fund.
Good Shepherd Gardens
(What we Offer)
Good Shepherd Gardens Mausoleum will provide substantial benefits to those who wish to be buried here. The advantages are as follows.
1.A Substantial Tax Advantage.
When a person purchases a niche or crypt from Good Shepherd Gardens, they are entitled to a charitable tax credit. The construction cost of the niche or crypt is deducted from the purchase price. The remaining expense that exceeds the construction cost is considered a charitable contribution and is tax deductible.
What does that mean?
Let’s say the construction cost of a crypt was 20% of the selling price. The remaining 80% would be applied to a tax-deductible gift to a charitable organization, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Thus, a substantial financial advantage is realized by all who purchase a crypt or niche from Good Shepherd Gardens.
2.Building a Christian Day School.
It is a comforting thought to know that when one purchases a niche or crypt at Good Shepherd Gardens, they are also providing the funds necessary to build a Christian Day School. Yes, even in death the love of Christ goes on. Every penny of the 80% gained from the sale of a crypt will go towards Christian school construction. Now that is a heartwarming thought.
3.The Church as a Burial Chapel.
When a burial takes place, the family will have the option of using the Church as a burial chapel. Most cemetery burials use the cemetery chapel. After the committal service at the cemetery is over, the family leaves the cemetery. At Good Shepherd Gardens, the mausoleum is exactly 246 feet from the front door of the Church. The Church is not only close to the burial site but the walk to the burial site is all hard surface (concrete or blacktop). After a Church service, the burial site is easily accessible to the family of the deceased. In bad weather, the Church can be used as the committal chapel. This makes a committal more comfortable for the mourners. At the last funeral offered by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church a mourner said, "I love the whole idea of offering a funeral here at Good Shepherd. This is the first funeral I’ve attended that I don’t have to get into my car and brave traffic on the way to the cemetery. I also love to peaceful setting with the beautiful stand of pine trees in the background." We believe that says it all.
4.Visitation and Funeral Site.
Today, many people are opting to have the visitation and funeral service on the same day. At Good Shepherd Gardens, we offer the Church as a site to have a pre-service visitation time and a funeral service site.
5.Cemetery is Accessible Year Round.
We have set a standard here at Good Shepherd Gardens and that standard is that the cemetery will be accessible within 24 hours after a snow fall. We began last winter with several heavy snow falls. The day after the snow fell, all the sidewalks at Good Shepherd Gardens were cleared of snow. A gentleman said of Good Shepherd Gardens, "I wish I would have buried my wife here. She is in another local cemetery and during the winter I cannot visit her grave because the snow is so deep." She is buried in ground and the site is quite a walk away from the cemetery roadway. Yes, Good Shepherd Gardens Mausoleum is accessible every day of the year.
6.The Resurrection of the Christian.
As Christians, we believe in the resurrection of the dead. When the world comes to an end, Jesus Christ will come from Heaven to raise up every human being. Can you imagine that day? Can you imagine being buried along side fellow Christians and on that day, be raised up in the company of the saints? That won’t happen in a commercial cemetery. What a joyous day that will be as we gather before Christ to be transported to Paradise. Being buried at Good Shepherd Gardens has an advantage that is truly out of this world.
Good Shepherd Gardens
(Future Expansion)
Our current mausoleum has a capacity of 64 crypts and 24 niches. Over half of the niches have been purchased and over 26% of our crypts have been purchased. Some time in the future we will need to add more niche and crypt space. We have places for future expansion.
The additions to the mausoleum will Complement the existing mausoleum. An additional committal site is planned for the future. It will be centered on an oval concrete slab with all five mausoleums fanned out and facing the Church.
