"John, what's happened to Billy?" Mr Hardy asked his son. "It seems a long time since he was here."

"It is," answered John. "We had a row some time ago, and I haven't asked him here since then."

"What was it about?" asked his sister Jill.

John's brow wrinkled as he tried to remember just what it was that he and Bill had quarrelled about, then he said: "I - I've forgotten what it was, it was some time ago, you know, and..."

"It couldn't have been very important or you'd remember," said his father with a twinkle in his eye.

Jill laughed. "Really, I never knew I had such an unthinking brother. Bill was one of the nicest boys you ever brought to the house. Wasn't he, Daddy?"

"I certainly thought so," replied Mr Hardy. "I can't imagine what he could have done to upset you, my boy."

"I remember now!" exclaimed John. "I was having an argument with another chap, and Bill took his part, and I was furious about it."

"But if he didn't agree with you, why shouldn't he say so? He has a right to his own opinion, hasn't he?" Jill remarked.

"Surely there is no need to get annoyed about a thing like that," their father said. "You can't expect him to think as you do about things just because you are friends. The idea is ridiculous. One often has to agree to differ even with one's best friends, but one shouldn't have a row over a difference of opinion."

"Haven't you missed Bill?" asked Jill.

"Of course I have," admitted John, looking sheepish.

"Then why not do something about it?" asked his father.

"I will, one of these days," answered John.

"'Do it now,' is a good maxim. And another is, 'let not the sun go down upon your wrath,'" said Mr Hardy. "Don't you think it would be a good thing if you telephoned Bill at once, and got it over with?"

Without a word, John walked out of the room and went to the telephone. He was away for about fifteen minutes then he returned smiling broadly. "It's all been fixed up," he said. "I told Bill I was sorry I'd been so stupid, and he's coming over straight away for a game of tennis. What about making it a foursome?"
