A letter from June

Some of you will soon be reaching the time when you will be leaving school and going on to a university, or starting your career, and if you have not yet decided what you want to do, it would be wise to give the matter serious consideration. Everyone cannot afford to try several things without making a decision and for this reason it is most important to choose wisely.

Consider your talents and let them guide you. The thing you like doing best is usually the thing you can do best, the thing that will give you joy in the doing, and prevent you from being frustrated.

What other qualities are necessary to a successful and satisfying career? Firstly, do you realise that in all necessary work you are working for God, no matter how humble the task may be; for then you will be able to put the best of yourself into it?

Obey the Golden Rule, doing unto others as you would have done unto you.

Do right because it IS right, in order that people may be able to rely on you; for honesty is the best policy.

Be ready to accept responsibility when it is something you feel you can tackle. Don't be discouraged if you make mistakes ... we all do ... and sensible people learn from their mistakes and make them into stepping stones to success.

Have confidence in yourself, because of the Spirit of God within you, but do not confuse self-confidence with conceit.

Be courteous to all with whom you come into contact, whether to those you serve, or to those who serve you. This should be a must.

Don't grumble if you have to do some extra work occasionally but do it cheerfully.

Go out into the world determined to do something that will benefit humanity. If you have sufficient love in your heart you may be able to help in one of the social services; and whatever your career, you can give what mankind sorely needs ... a little kindness.

And however successful you may be, never become arrogant, for it is only by the grace of God that any of us can accomplish anything.

Yours truly,

June
