MY GOD

The following is an edited extract of a lecture that was published previously in The Path of Truth.
I maintain that if God is the universal power of Love, if He is all the Substance and all the Knowledge of the universe, and I am His temple, then to live in negative conditions of poverty, disease and discord, is to reject God. It is like having a wealthy, loving father but not to accept his succour.
I believe that if we in The School of Truth are going to teach God to you, we have to be the things we teach. If I am diseased, what right do I have to teach you about the God of health? If I live in misery and unhappiness how dare I teach you that God is peace and joy? And if I am poverty stricken how can I with conviction teach you that God is your universal supply, that He will meet your every need? I must try to be the example. If I do not have the consciousness of God as happiness, health and supply, then I am a hypocrite to teach you that He is these things.
So many people talk about God, of His infinite goodness, and how it is His desire and pleasure to fill the lives of people with all good, yet they do not have it themselves. How can I teach you about what I have not allowed to become manifest in me? I must be the quality. I must express His good spiritually, mentally, emotionally and materially, for it is only by my works that you can assess God's presence in my life.
To envy any quality of goodness in another is to prevent those qualities from manifesting in yourself. You are saying in effect, "He (or she) has them but I don't." I should be gladdened by your good health, your happiness and your opulence for, in so doing, I too enter into the consciousness of it and attract it to myself. God is the Substance of perfection on every plane of consciousness, and you and I can draw on It for as much as we need whenever we need It. According to our faith is it done unto us. Faith is a question of knowing.
Many years ago I did not yet know that the Substance of life, happiness, of health and of abundance were within myself. I thought they were something I had to seek outside of myself in a place called heaven in which there lived a being called God. But as my understanding grew I found that He was not outside of me but that I was the temple of His spirit, that His spirit was individualised as me. I discovered that I could ask whatever I would and He expressed it for me. I found out I could not share my faith between Him and someone or something else. The moment I tried to channel the flow of my Good, to limit His abundance to certain sources, it failed to materialise.
There is an unlimited stream of Divine substance within you. You can draw on It at will, according to your faith, according to your realisation of It. To me God is not a personality. He is the very Life, the Love, the Power, Which sustains me. Yet I talk to Him as to a person - the physical of me communes with the spiritual. The nature, the strength, of my inner consciousness of Him determines just how He will manifest in and through me as the Divine Substance that fulfils my every need.
We - humanity - are not separate fragments through which God is manifesting. We are the One Spirit manifesting through the One Body. We only appear to be separate because we exist in diverse forms. Our unlimited supply of Good depends upon our consciousness of the absolute unity of God with His creation. For example, I may require a hundred Rand tomorrow morning. The channel through which it comes is not my business. What is my business is the inner realisation of my oneness with His Substance. When I have this realisation then I know that all persons, unknowingly, and all Creation co-operate to bring my good and that no person, condition or thing can interpose between me and my good.
When I see other people demonstrating the goodness of God I am genuinely grateful. I say to myself "There I am. There is my happiness, my health, my success!" I identify myself with the good I see manifesting in my fellowmen, for they are a part of me as I am of them. By rejoicing in their good I am accepting the good for myself - and so it comes about.
If, with all my omissions and commissions, God can fill my life to capacity with all good, how much more good will He manifest through you? I do not profess to be good. I am very human and full of faults but, because of those faults, I am able to speak with greater authority. Faith is not only the consciousness of Divine power within you, it is already that Power in action. Already it gives you fulfilment in your life. So, if you are lifted up to consciousness of Good, lift other people up to that consciousness by your example. And so it will go on in an ever-widening circle.
As I have often told you before, your desire for any particular good is that good itself prophesying its own fulfilment. That desire within you for good is God tapping at your consciousness, waiting for you to release Him into your body and affairs. I repeat - do not make the mistake of envying other people. If someone else is developing in faith more quickly than you, look at their life and see how they are bringing about their good. What steps are they taking? Are they putting more into life than you? Are they giving more by expressing greater service and love?
The gospel of Christ is a message of good news for you and me, teaching us the Truth that sets us free from our own limitations, teaching that we can ask anything of the Father in His name - that is in the Christ-consciousness of faith and love, and it shall be given to us to share and to spare.
That is the God that I shall continue to believe in, follow, and teach you about. I shall teach you that this day is the accepted time, that now you are filled to capacity with all that is God, with all that is Good. I shall continue to be a salesman in His name, of the Father Who is unlimited abundance and Whose desire is to fill every need. I shall try to conduct myself in a manner worthy of my Father and not put Him to shame.
I shall glorify God as the fulfilment of all good, for that is His nature and His will for me, and you, and all people.
