Counting Pockets

Game created by Mary, The Game Lady

Fun counting game for young children.

To Make:

The pretty colored numbers were cut from a children's book and glued to the library pockets using rubber cement. Pretty numbers similar to these could be made using different colors of construction paper.

Then the library pockets were arranged and glued to the file folder, again using rubber cement.

The cards were made using pictures from the same children's book. They were glued to index cards using rubber cement. Pictures from any source could be used for this type of game and any number of cards could be created.

To Play:

This type of game is wonderful for solitary play. To make a two or more player game, additional file folders with pockets are needed, one for each player.

In turn, players would draw one card from the shuffled draw pile and place it in the appropriate pocket if it is empty. If he already has the pocket filled, he would place the card in a discard pile. The next player can either draw the discarded card or the top card from the draw pile. The first player to file his pockets is the winner.

NOTE: All the pictures used on this game were from the book Who Says Moo?. This is a preschool activity book from Golden Books. I have made LOTS of games using the delightful pictures in this book. In fact, I have purchased several copies of it and have also been lucky enough to find copies at garage sales as well.
