Pi Delta Chi, a local sorority, was born on January 1, 1971. Pi Delta Chi was a nationally affiliated sorority and known as Gamma Sigma Sigma. After becoming local a new constitution was drafted with service to others as the main purpose.

On January 25, 1971, installation of Pi Delta Chi's first officers took place in the North Hall (now Tarble) basement. These eight girls faced a year of failures, successes, and much hard work. The executive board met once a week before the regular sorority meetings to plan and discuss projects to work on, and any problems that occurred.

On February 8, 1971, the first rush party was held for those women of Carthage interested in joining Pi Delta Chi. It was very successful!

On February 15, 1971, Pi Delta Chi welcomed 19 girls into the first pledge class of the sorority. Working with their pledge mother they began working on their projects to become active members.

On March 28, 1971, Pi Delta Chi's first activation ceremony was held. The E-Board was very happy to welcome their 17 new actives into the sisterhood (2 were lost during the pledging process). They were a very enthusiastic and hard-working pledge class. The officers hoped for the same enthusiasm in the next pledge class and still hopes for that today.

Pi Delta Chi's final project of the year was their "Survival Kits." This project was very successful and a good money maker and the sorority continued to do it at the end of each semester.

Pi Delta Chi does many special projects. Along with those projects, the sorority donates money to people or organizations that need help, and is always willing to help out with other campus and community projects when asked.
