The Single Subject Korean Credential with Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) is a state-approved professional preparation program that enables students to earn a Korean teaching credential which is primarily for teaching secondary grades. The CLAD emphasis entitles individuals to teach students who are Limited English Proficient (LEP).

The CLAD emphasis also includes a second language experience requirement that may be met in a number of ways.

All applicants are required to possess a bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university with at least a 2.75 GPA to be considered for full admission to the program. Provisional acceptance is available to other applicants who do not possess the minimum grade point average.

The following documents are required from all applicants before a file will be considered for admission:

• Typed Statement of Purpose (approximately 250 words) describing the applicant’s reasons for seeking admission in to the Single Subject Korean Credential Program with CLAD at Hope International University.

• Two sets of official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities.

• Two completed Reference Forms.

• Completed Application for Admission with a non-refundable $75 application fee.

Teaching Practicum or equivalent (Includes 60 hours classroom observations)………………………………………………… 3 units

• A foreign language requirement of 6 semester units or its equivalent must also be met before the end of the professional program.

• TB Test Results (Must be completed within a year of entering a public school classroom).

• All candidates must take the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) prior to the student teaching.

• The subject matter requirement for this credential is met by the completion of an approved waiver program or passage of the Single Subject Assessment for Teaching (SSAT ) in Korean. It is strongly recommended that the SSAT in Korean be taken as early as possible.
