I myself don't think there's much
to see or do here, but Wisconsin does have a lot of tourism because of the many
great outside activities, and scenery. One of the best known attractions is
called Wisconsin Dells. The Dells are always fun!! They are a formation
of rock caverns that were carved by the glaciers, MANY MANY thousands of
years ago. Since then, they have become a
tourist attraction!!! They have now put in Water parks, shopping centers,
many hotels, boat tours, horse and cart rides, and duck rides (of course you ride
in a vehicle that goes on land AND in water--not actually on a duck!) which takes you
through many of the caverns and also get to cross over the river! They also
have a place called Deer Park where the land is protected and the hundreds
of deer and other animals roam free. Many are tamed enough that they will
walk right up to you looking for a snack! Wisconsin is VERY beautiful
and if you like outdoor activities and sightseeing this is the place to be!
Hi everyone! My name is Kristen DeGroot.
I live in Racine, Wisconsin which is located about a half hour south
of Milwaukee. Wisconsin is known mostly for the Green Bay Packers and
our many dairy products. In fact the Packer fans are called "Cheeseheads"
and are known for their fierce loyalty to the team and the great
"tailgate" parties they throw while waiting for the games to start! We
also pride ourselves on good sportsmanship.
Lambeau Field is in Green Bay and seats over 60,000 fans but there is still an over 30 year
wait to get a season ticket for the Pack!
I am 13, and have 2 sisters. My oldest sister, Melissa is 21, My younger sister Samantha is 12. My
parents have been divorced since I was really young. My dad lives in
Racine and I live in a VERY small town right outside of it. My mom and dad
are both remarried and all parents AND step-parents have grown up in this
area and still live in this area. I see my dad every weekend, and
love spending the days over there. I live with my mom and my step-dad, they
are great. My favorite places to go with my family that I live with,
which is my step-sister Sammy, 12, Missy almost 21, my step-dad and mom,
would be either Tomahawk, WI, or LaCrosse, Wi. My Uncle Jake lives in
Tomahawk, and my great-grandma, my grandma, and one aunt live in LaCarosse.
My great-grandma is one of the funniest people I know. She is great to
get letters from. My Grandma Collins (my moms mom) lives in Union Grove,
not to far from us, and my Grandma and Grandpa DeGroot (my dads parents)
live in Racine, not to far from my dad. My Grandma and Grandpa are great
people. My Grandpa makes a lot of different things with wood, and my
Grandma makes a lot of crafts. They are both really busy people, and I
enjoy spending time with them!
I am also in school band. I have played the Tenor Saxaphone for about
4 years now. It was funny when I started because I am not a really tall person
and the sax was nearly as big as I was!! I took it because my stepdad
played when he was young and it's my moms favorite instrument. (I kind of got
roped into it) Over the years we have realized how much our school
band can accomplish if we all buckle down and concentrate! I also am
in Jazz Band which meets once a week. In sixth grade the music got
much harder because we were trying to do the same music as the 7th
and 8th graders but we struggled through it. In seventh grade Jazz Band I
was the only seventh grader chosen for a solo which was quite an honor!
Well--actually it was a duet with me and an eight grader who played
trumpet. We played l6 measures of "Forrest Gumps main theme"
I really enjoyed it and have had many duets and treos since. The
"Spring Concert" this year will be my last at Yorkville School and
it will be so sad! One boy and girl will be chosen for "Band Student
of the Year" and one person will be awarded "Jazz Band Student of
the Year." I am hoping to win one of them. I extremely enjoy playing sax
and hope to continue to play for a VERY long time!!

As all who know me know--I REALLY LOVE music! My favorite kinds are Country and
the Oldies. Mom and I always listened to oldies when I was younger so I'm
pretty used to it!! I think Country has come a long way in the last few
years. There are many country artists that stick out in my head for their
music/lyrics. A few of my favorites are Pam Tillis, Garth Brooks, Trisha
Yearwood, Deana Carter, George Straight, and Tim McGraw. I think my all
time favorite is Pam Tillis. She has a GREAT voice and a super sense of
humor! Another artist I've grown to like this past year is Elton John.
When Princess Di passed away Elton John recorded a tribute to her. His
tribute has sold MILLIONS and he has donated all money made to Princess
Diana's favorite charities. I started with purchasing that CD and have
since grown to love many of his songs. I guess it took his show of heart
for me to realize the depth and feeling in some of his work. If you
haven't gotten his CD I would encourage you to do so--it is great!
I am in Junior High and although it is a smaller school we have a really
big chorus. There are between 150 and 200 kids at this time!! I had the
GREAT honor this year to be selected to sing a SOLO for the 1997 Christmas
Concert both in Chorus and on my tenor sax! It had been a goal of mine
since I started in Chorus to do a singing solo and there were only 7 spots
open. Even better than winning the spots was that the concert AND my
solos went really well!! I sang "Home for the Holidays".
But the more he looked----the more the letter wasn't there!"
Please write soon!!!!
