The Untold Story

Tracks

This bootleg is great quality, and a must for true Oasis fans! I think this is the same as "The Early Years". It contains unreleased demos from before Oasis even signed a record deal. The first six tracks are studio demos recorded in Manchester in 1992. Tracks seven through twelve are soundboard copies from the infamous Boardwalk in Manchester in 1992. Tracks 13-15 are rare soundcheck recordings from their October 14, 1994 gig at the Uptown Bar in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The final three tracks are acoustic songs sung by Noel. "Cast No Shadow" and "Don't Look Back In Anger" are from the Simon Mayo Show, Radio One, England, Mar. 11, 1995. The last track is from the acoustic stage at the Glastonbury Festival, 1995.

A couple thoughts on the early demos. Many of them have a "hip -hop" drumbeat. You can really get a feel of how the band's style progressed from these early demos to the present day. Some of the songs have different vocal effects and guitar pedals. On the live songs, you can hear Liam "singing" the songs rather than sneering them out, like he does now. Finally, most of the songs are very "catchy". They have simple melody in the lyrics along with a hip-hop sound often accompanied by a very noticable bass line.

  • Colour My Life - This is a good song with really catchy guitar and chorus: "You can colour my life, unitl it fits with your own." The drumbeat also has a hip-hop feel to it.

  • Take Me - This one was written by Liam and Bonehead! Probably prior to Noel joining the band.

  • See The Sun - The intro to this song is an upbeat drum rhythmn along with a repeating bass line. This bass solo continues for a couple measures before Noel enters with a cool guitar riff.

  • Must Be the Music - The lyrics are hard to understand, but are clear in the following live version.

  • Better Let You Know - Liam's catchy lyrics are given an "underwater echo" effect.

  • Snakebite - This is an upbeat guitar-based instumental jam with a lot of cymbals.

  • Columbia - This is only a bout a 15 second clip, and is noticably slower than the album version.

  • Take Me (live) - Noel uses an effect on his guitar, and Bonehead's guitar is heavy.

  • Life In Vain - This is a slow, acoustic ballad sung by Liam with a slight echo effect.

  • Soundchecks - The jams are untitled, but when I hear the first one, I think it vaguely sounds like the guitar solo to Champagne Supernova. Maybe this is an early version?

  • Cast No Shadow/Don't Look Back In Anger - These songs were recorded on March 10, 1995 off of the radio. They are both brilliant! Noel's voice and guitar-playing were both top. These are the best acoustic versions of either song that I have ever heard.

  • Wonderwall - This was supposedly recorded from Noel's acoustic session at Glastonbury in 1995, but at the end, it sounds like there are only a few people in the audience.
