Setlist
This is a great show from the "An Evening With the Smashing Pumpkins" tour in support of their album, "Adore". This tape has good music quality. The vocals seem a bit quieter at times, but are still very good. It is an outdoor concert taped by an audience member with good overall sound.
The Pumpkins went all out for the show, bringing along a pianist and THREE percussionists. They really add to the show and sound great. If you like "Adore", I think you will like this show. The songs sound much more complete live. They are heavier, more complicated, and more orchestrated then the sometimes simple sound of the album. The Pumpkins and Co. play longer intros, longer solos, and extend some songs with extra guitar and lyrics. No song is played exactly as on the album.
In addition to the slightly different versions of their songs, their are also some very noticable differences. Billy plays an acoustic version of "the new single", "Perfect". He follows it with an acoustic version of "Tonight, Tonight". A song dedicated to the crowd, whom Billy invites; "If you know the words to this one, sing along." One of the highlights of the show is the VERY different, yet very cool version of "Bullet With Butterfly Wings". It starts off with a lengthy percussion intro. At times, Billy sings/screams only with percussion and no guitars.
"For Martha" is cut mid-song, since the song is split onto two tapes. The Joy Division cover of "Transmission" is terrible quality as the sound continuously fades in and out.
The band doesn't say much. Billy is polite to the crowd. Before the encore of "1979". Billy informs the Wisconsin crowd that "..James was talking shit about the Packers backstage." James goes into his Super Fan routine about Da' Bears. He informs the crowd that he was taught "all there is to know about Wisconsin culture. Which was, well..beer..and, um..the Packers and cheese!" The band then breaks into "a very nice song", 1979!
