Jelly Babies.

A BIT OF HISTORY -  Jelly Babies were originally called Peace Babies. They were produced to celebrate the end of the First World War in 1918. Rationing in the Second World War caused production to be stopped but in 1953 they were re-introduced as Basset's Jelly Babies.

These are a range of badges that were produced and distributed by Robertson's. A slight diversion but these are so nice. Please wait a while for the pictures to load.

The range of 6 Jelly Baby badges. Lovely and colourful and made in the same way as the bubble coated Golly Badges. You collected the tokens off the special jars of Jelly Baby Jam in the same way as Gollies. Near the end of the promotion you were allowed to use Golly tokens to get them. It still meant you had to buy 18 Jars of Robertson's preserves to get the set though. The front and back of the label I have are shown below with all the details of how to get your Jelly Baby badges. The claim was that one spoonful of Jelly Babies jam would make you go wibbly wobbly all over. Scary eh ? :-)

The promotion appears to have been done around 1993 but I'd be interested to know the dates.

This is the leaflet that Robertson's sent out with orders near the end of the promotion. It seems that the partnership between Robertson's and Trebor Bassets was a short one. Maybe the jam wasn't popular or maybe it was just a one off idea that was never followed up. It's prompted me to collect a few Jelly Baby truck models too.
