The Manager of the Year Award is pretty straight forward - it is awarded to the manager in both the American and National Leagues who is deemed to have best lead his team throughout the season.
The award is voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of America, and is judged on a 5-3-1 basis of first-, second-, and third-place votes.
Five managers have guided their teams to an appearance in the World Series - Whitey Herzog (1985), John McNamara (1986), Tony LaRussa (1988), Bobby Cox (1991) and Jim Leyland (2006) - and seven have lead their team to the championship - Sparky Anderson (1984), Tommy Lasorda (1988), Tom Kelly (1991), Joe Torre (1996, 1998), Mike Scioscia (2002), Jack McKeon (2003) and Ozzie Guillen (2005).
