Have you ever surfed the web without thinking, "I wish I had a homepage,". These days it's not hard to get one. There are tons of free homepage providers around, for alot of them you don't even need to know html ! Of course once you've signed up for a free homepage, you face the first problem. What is your page about, in the excitment of getting an actual homepage you forgot that it has to be about something. The next few paragraphs will explain how to pick a good topic and make your homepage work.

Choosing a topic for a web site can be difficult. This is generally because you can't decide what to do it on, there are so many choices. As a kid it is a good idea to choose a topic that other kids have done web pages on. A few ideas are: A good book series, a computer game, a particular hobby you're into like say roleplay or medieval fantasy. A fav TV show can be a good idea too.

Once you have your topic, you have to think about the content of your page. "What sort of things will I tell people about my topic ?". Most pages have a links section, back ground info and latest facts about a topic. Lets say you were going to create a Hanson web site. You would probably have Links,Pics,Bio,Latest Gossip and News plus Lyrics to their songs etc. You have to decide what people want and need to know and then fill your page with this information.

Next is choosing how your web page will look. This can be a big factor in how many visitors you get. There's a good chance that if you have a nice looking site more people will want to come, and stay. Many people choose black or white backgrounds because the most number of colors look good as text on them. How ever, white text will be readable and look good on almost any background color. Don't just go for the one color of text or background all the time either, unless you are trying to a get a professional effect you should vary you background color to make your site intersting.

Interface is also very important. If the people visiting your page can't get to where they want to go it isn't much good. Make sure your links are clear and you space things out nicely on your page so it's not cluttered.

Finally, make sure your page is quick to load, lots of graphics can look pretty but they are a pain especially when some-one is in a hurry.
