There are many ways in which to build a beer can collection, but before you start you must realize that this is a displayable hobby that requires lots of space ------A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF SPACE!!!!!!
If you have a rec room, beer can collecting is great for decorating the walls and/or back bar. You can enchance your collection by adding in things related to the brewing industry like neon signs, clocks, napkins, coasters, bottle caps, playing cards, labels, etc., etc. The list is endless. A den is a nice place to display a collection. Visitors will be impressed and a number of hours will be spent talking about your collection. Once you get into it, it is awesome!!!!!!!
You can build your collection by trading or buying cans from other collectors or dealers in cans. Before becoming terribly involved in trading or buying cans go slow. Make a small trade or purchase to see how reliable the individual is. Are the cans that you acquired in good shape? Were they packed well? No damage? Did they arrive in a timely fashion? Two to three weeks should be a good turn around for trading or purchasing cans in the United States. Also, try to get an idea of the value of the cans you have to trade. Do not trade a conetop or flattop for a current alum. can!!!
If you are trying to sell a collection, please read the following: Grading Beer Cans as it should be very helpful.
Here are some reference books that you may try to acquire to help you:
It should be noted that the Bible and Beer Cans Unlimited are very difficult reference books to acquire and may be out of print.
