The following information is from the book "History of the Pan-Handle, West Virginia 1879" compiled by J. H. Newton, G. G. Nichols and A. G. Sprankle published in Wheeling, WV by J. A. Caldwell.

NOTE there is more than ONE Alexander Morrow listed. I am sending you what I think may be of help to you. Remember when these stories read "now" that was back in 1879!

Page 447: Alexander Morrow was born in Tyrone county Ireland in 1821. He emigrated to America in 1842. Landing in New York city, he continued his journey westward until he reached Freemans landing where he stopped and made his home in Hancock county, WV since that time. He married Rachel Jane Shanley, daughter of Wm. Shanley in 1856. They settled on the farm where they are now living. They have a family of four children, three sons and a daughter.

Page 445: Alexander Morrow was born in Ireland and was married to Susan Cassady. In 1793 he accompanied with his wife and seven children, viz: John, William, Alexander, Margaret, Elizabeth and Nancy emigrated to America, landing at Philadelphia, where they remained a few days and then settled in the State of New Jersey, remaining there five years. In 1798 they all came west and located in now Hancock county. They purchased a 600 acre tract of land in 1800, a part of which is now owned by William Morrow. Mr. M. followed farming as his vocation. He died in about 1820, at a good old age.

Page 445 John Morrow: the senior son of Alexander, married Miss Eleanor Welch, in August 1803. They reared a family of five sons and three daughters, viz: Alexander, John W., Samuel, James, William, Susan , Mary and Nancy. The children were all married, save Samuel. Susan and Nancy had no issue. Alexander and John are deceased. Our subjects death occurred in 1854 at the age of 88 years. His wife died in 1864, aged 92 years.

Page 445: William Morrow: lived a single life; accumulated considerable property, and died in 1839; aged about 73 years.

Page 445: James Morrow: married Jemima Davis along in 1800. She died after a few years of married life, and in 1812 he married Miss Nancy Elliott. They raised a family of four sons and three daughters - Charles, Alexander, James, Aaron, Susan, Isabella and Margaret. The subject died in 1825, and his wife in 1839

Page 445: Alexander Morrow married Miss Susan Welch in 1820. They reared a family of three sons and four daughters - Robert, James, Alexander, Margaret, Susan, Nancy Ann and Mary. He died at the age of 72 years; his wife in 1872, at the age of 76 years.

Page 432 Re "The Flats Graveyard" This being a denominational burial place, the Presbyterian elder were buried together. Among those listed as being buried there is Alexander Morrow born 1815 died 1871

Page 432: (The Agricultural works) In the year 1869, J. W. Allison, Alex. Morrow, D.S. Nicholson, Daniel Donchoo, William H. Pugh, John G. Hunter, James H. Pugh and Samuel Wilson, formed a corporation for the purpose of manufacturing and selling agricultural implements. This association was known as the Champion Manufacturing Company.

Page 420: (Note: Hancock county was formed from Brooke Co. in 1848)

As early as possibly after the formation of Hancock county steps were taken to erect a court house……on the 10th of July 1848, the following persons were commissioned to select a site, ascertain the probable cost, and investigate and report a plan for a court house: Thomas Elder, John Mayhew and Alexander Morrow.

Page 413: (re early settlers) Alexander Morrow settled in what is now known as Butler district in 1798. ( Now Hancock, was Brooke county. Brooke county formed out of Ohio county in 1797) You will need to look at a map of the NORTHERN panhandle of WV to see where these counties were formed from.

Page 321: From St John's Episcopal church records: This is one of the oldest churches in the county.(Brooke county) It was founded by the celebrated Dr Doddridge and was the first church organized by him west of the mountains……..From the examination of the monuments in the cemetery, we learn that the first interment was that of Elias Barney, who died September 11, 1805 in the 16th year of his age. The next monument is in memory of Alexander Morrow and Susan Morrow 1808.

There are various records of Alexander Morrow serving on jury duty.
