The five-pointed star known as the pentacle is a sacred symbol of the magickal craft of Wicca. (When written or drawn it is called a pentagram.) It represents wo/man (the spirt or divine) and the four ancient elements of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. It is used, among other things, for protection, invoking, controlling, and banishing elemental forces. An inverted pentacle or pentagram is generally regarded as the symbol of black magick and Satanism; however, in certin Wiccan circles it is used to represent the Horned God(male principle of the supreme Deity and consort of the Goddess) or to denote the second-degree rank.
