Imbolc

Imbolc is also known as Candlemas, Oimelc, and Lady Day celebrated on February 2nd. It is a festival of lights to herald the coming of Spring and to encourage the return of the sun. A ritual blessing and planting of seeds in pots in the circle with the request of the Goddess and God is appropriate. Candles or torches are held in the circle and are usually carried around the altar. A symbol of the wheel is placed on the altar.

Foods of this Sabbat-They are ones that represent growth, such as seeds (pumpkin, sesame, sunflower, etc.), poppyseed breads and muffins, and herbal teas.

Traditional Herbs-angelica, basil, bay, benzoin, celandine, heather, myrrh,and all yellow flowers.

Traditional Decorations-dish of snow, a crown of thirteen red candles, a spring of evergreen, a Witch's broom to symbolize "out with the old", small statue or figurine representing the triple Goddess in her Maiden aspect.

Traditional Incenses-basil, myrrh, and wisteria.

Traditional Gems-amethyst, garnet, onyx, and turquoise.

The Deities-The Goddess in her crone aspect as the Maiden, Brigid (Celtic goddess of fire-prophecy, divination, and healing), and Aradia (daughter of Diana, an "founder of the Witch cult on Earth").
