1 EXT. A CHURCH – LATE AT NIGHT

The wind blows fiercely on a heavily shaded church, as leaves blow from their branches and freely fly through the air and disappear into the night.

2 INT. CHURCH

Rows of candles are glowing with their flames reaching towards the intensely decorated statues and the detailed stain-glass windows. A woman, dressed in black, is lighting them one by one.

3 (cont.)

She makes the sign of the cross and genuflects in front of the altar. She slowly moves into a nearby pew. The woman is ROSEMARY CALABRO.

ROSEMARY

(whispering)

Love above, love below, dark as night, bright with might, sell my soul to the devil tonight. Make Robert mine. Make our love shine.

(voice fading)

Devil, be mine.

4 (cont.)

(break)

The stain-glass windows shatter one by one, slowly at first and then faster.

5 (cont.)

The pews are flung over on their side by an unseen presence. The only pew left in its original position is the one the woman is sitting on.

6 (cont.)

The flames of the candles jump up as sparks fly and burn their way through the church causing fires everywhere.

7 (cont.)

The woman smiles and closes her bible. And blesses herself with the sign on the cross.

8 ON EAST SIDE APARTMENT BRICK PILLAR - MONDAY MORNING

SUBTITLE

LAWRENCEVILLE, CALIFORNIA

Lively green bushes surround the California apartment building and birds can be heard chirping in the morning sunlight, as in the background we can see people entering and exit the massive apartment building on this beautiful late September Monday morning.

CUT TO

9 EXT. ANDREWS APARTMENT – WELCOME MAT

Monday's paper is gently placed on the mat of ROSE ANDREWS' apartment.

10 (cont.)

Rose stands by her decorative wooden door and momentarily gazes around at her resident neighbors’ apartments. She is a thin, beautiful young woman with dark, bushy uncombed hair flying everywhere as she gently kneels down to the rolled up paper and picks it up, unrolling it. She quickly reads the front page headline and then suddenly is drawn back to it.

11 (cont.)

ROSE

(shocked)

Oh my God! He's back!

12 INT. IVY APARTMENT - BATHROOM - SAME TIME

MARY IVY, a young delicate-looking woman with naturally curly dark hair, is combing her hair in her well-lit bathroom. Through the doorway behind Mary we can see her husband ROBERT IVY, a man in his early thirties with a freshly unshaven face, is still lying in a King-size bed with the covers dangling off parts of his semi-muscular body.

MARY

Honey, you better get the kids ready for school. They'll be late again and I don't want to have to explain to Principal Mills --

13 (cont.)

ROBERT

(muffled, head is lying facedown on a pillow)

Yeah, yeah, Mary. One sec...

Mary walks into the bedroom, setting her hairbrush on the oak dresser, just outside the bathroom. She climbs back in bed with her husband, although it is obvious she won't be staying in there very much longer.

MARY

(teasing)

You're as bad as the kids.

Robert brings his tired young face up from the bed and looks over his shoulder at his wife.

ROBERT

Oh, am I?

The two passionately embrace and kiss for a few seconds as Mary slaps Robert away, deciding the kiss was long enough and she must get ready for work.

MARY

Come on, now. Get up...

14 INT. IVY APARTMENT - BASHIMAH'S BEDROOM - MOMENTS LATER

Robert and Mary's son, BASHIMAH IVY is in his bed listening to his music playing from headphones. His eyes are closed, but it's obvious he's not truly asleep, but just wants extra time to rest before school. He's singing along to a song on his CD player, knowing he has only a few seconds left to cherish this beautiful and quiet morning.

BAHSIMAH

(singing)

I get knocked down, but I get up again...

ROBERT

(yelling from downstairs, o.c.)

Bashimah get up!

BASHIMAH

(still singing)

You're never gonna keep me down...

15 INT. IVY APARTMENT – SPIRAL STAIRCASE

Robert races up the spiral staircase leading from his bedroom.

16 INT. IVY APARTMENT – BASHIMAH’S ROOM

Robert clumsily shakes Bashimah's lifeless body. Bashimah slowly struggles to take off his headphones..

ROBERT

Get up and get ready for school. I am not going to tell you again.

(looking around room)

And just look at your room. It's a mess. Now Bashimah get up, and get something done for once. I have to get ready for work.

BASHIMAH

Dad, just one more minute.

17 (cont.)

Robert opens up the shades as sunlight appears on Bashimah's face, obviously annoying the ninth grader who gives out a defeated groan. He puts his headphones back on his head and lies on his back as he stares at his white ceiling.

18 INT. IVY APARTMENT - SCOTTI AND BRENISH'S BEDROOM - MINUTES LATER

A pink array of colors surrounds the girls' room, as BRENISH IVY staggers out of bed. She is Bashimah's fraternal twin but takes after her mother's looks, whereas Bashimah takes after Robert's looks. SCOTTI IVY is more of a combination of both parents. Scotti is the youngest child although she is only one year apart from Brenish and Bashimah.

BRENISH

It's a beautiful morning, Sis. Come on. Get your lazy butt out of bed before Mom or Daddy yells at you too.

SCOTTI

Why must you always be the good child, Bren?

BRENISH

Oh come on. It has its rewards.

SCOTTI

Yeah well, sleeping in never hurt anybody.

BRENISH

No, that's a job left for big sisters.

Brenish teasingly pounces on her sister's bed as the two girls giggle with excitement.

MARY

(from downstairs, o.c.)

No! I have to go, Robert!

ROBERT

(from downstairs, o.c.)

Well, give me a kiss before you go.

BRENISH

God, they are at it again.

SCOTTI

No they're not. For once I think they are just talking.

BRENISH

They never just talk anymore. It's always rush, rush, rush. Work, work, work...I wish Daddy would just quit his part-time job at the hospital and just focus on one job for once. Or at least have Mom home once in while.

SCOTTI

That would be nice. I'm not saying no, but you know it will never happen.

BRENISH

They'll probably get a divorce.

SCOTTI

Don't say that!

BRENISH

Why? It's probably true, isn't it?

SCOTTI

Yeah, but you're the optimist of the family. If you think that way, how am I supposed to feel?

Brenish frowns as she climbs out of her sister's bed and listens to her parents' conversation, allowing her nightgown to fall to the soft carpet floor. She walks out of the room and into the hallway by the spiral staircase to hear her parents' conversation better.

19 (cont.) IVY APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM

Mary is clumsily and hurriedly slipping into her tight black high heels using one hand to pull her high heels over her tiny feet. With a briefcase in one hand with her long black coat hanging from her arm as she manages to give her husband a quick peck on the cheek.

MARY

(rushed)

Love ya. See you when I get home. I'll call you during my lunch break.

ROBERT

Yep. I love you too. Have a good day.

MARY

(to kids)

Don't be late. I won't cover for you this time.

BASHIMAH/BRENISH/SCOTTI

(together)

We won't.

The kids all say their good-byes, overlapping one other's with the last.

BRENISH

(from upstairs, o.c.)

Love ya Mom.

BASHIMAH

(from upstairs, o.c.)

See ya.

SCOTTI

(from upstairs, o.c.)

Bye.

MARY

(to Robert)

Make sure they catch the bus. Have a good day at work.

ROBERT

(lovingly)

Go before you end up late.

They share one last kiss and then Mary rushes out the door.

20 INT. IVY APARTMENT - UPSTAIRS IVY BATHROOM - ONLY SECONDS LATER

The girls run to the bathroom, but Bashimah beats them to it and slams the door in their faces as he can be heard laughing.

BRENISH

(furiously yelling at Bashimah)

I hate you! I was here first!

SCOTTI

No you weren't! I was!

Bashimah runs the shower as the sisters argue.

BRENISH

Oh shut up! I was here way before you.

SCOTTI

(walking away, defeated)

Uh-huh! Whatever...

21 (cont.) INT. IVY APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM

Robert shakes his head as he heads for the kitchen for some morning coffee and picks up the morning paper on the counter, although we don't get the chance to see his reaction to the headline that caused a panic from Rose Andrews.

22 EXT. SILVERMAN APARTMENT - MINUTES LATER

23 INT. SILVERMAN APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM

MARTIN SILVERMAN had his backpack hanging off his shoulder as he waited impatiently outside the bathroom, which was behind the living room. BRUCE SILVERMAN, his father, was sitting on the toilet ignoring his son as he read a magazine. Martin, who was the same age as Brenish and Bashimah paced the floor as he edged himself towards the front door.

MARTIN

Dad! Please, I want to get to school on time...this time...

He started to lean on the wooden bathroom door sighing heavily as he lost his balance once Bruce opened the door. Martin's dad headed for the couch as Martin tried to get Bruce's attention.

MARTIN

(waving his hand)

Dad...

(angered)

Fine! Be like this for the rest of your miserable life. I don't have to put up with it anymore. I'll catch the bus!

Martin headed for the door once again with his backpack lifelessly hanging off his right shoulder. But then something came over the child as he turned to face his father one last time.

MARTIN

And one more thing you have to face - you are not the only victim here. Mom left you, but she also left me...don't forget that. And you know what else you shouldn't forget? I blame you for this mess! I'll always blame you for this.

Martin stuck out an accusing finger at his father who was about to sit down on the worn out looking couch to watch some television. However Bruce stopped in mid-motion and turned towards his son and bent the finger to the back of his hand.

MARTIN

(screaming, eyes glowing red)

OWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

The lights in the house flicker on and off quickly, blowing the living room light bulb up. Bruce is thrown against the wall by an unseen presence. Martin glares at his father as he gives him a strict face.

BRUCE

Don't you ever say that, Kid. Don't you ever!

MARTIN

Dammit, Dad...I think you broke my finger.

Martin runs into the kitchen where he grabs an icepack from the freezer as he lays it on the island snack bar to grab a towel to wrap it in. Bruce follows him into the kitchen.

BRUCE

Kid. Kid, come back here. Marty, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I just lost it back there. There's no excuse for what I did. It's just because of your --

MARTIN

(confused)

Because of my what?

BRUCE

Because of your mom. I'm sure you already knew that though. That's why I've been acting strange these last couple of weeks. The divorce...it's been...Well, I'll try and keep my cool. Honest. I'll try. But it's this damn divorce. It's not easy on me.

MARTIN

And it's supposed to be easier on me? Is it?

BRUCE

I didn't say that...

MARTIN

Excuse me, I'm the victim here too.

BRUCE

I know that. But if you don’t learn to control your powers, what do you think is going to happen to your mother? And to you! Now do you want that to happen?

MARTIN

You know I don’t. I love Mom.

BRUCE

Then you better start to control your tempers. This is not helping. Do you want that Brenish Ivy to find out about you and tell everyone?

MARTIN

She wouldn’t do that Dad. She’s my best friend. She means everything to me! And besides, you’re avoiding the subject! I’m still the victim. I didn't have a say in you and Mom splitting up. I didn’t have a say in whether or not I’d be made a freak by my parents. I didn’t ask for these powers! I just want to be a normal kid for once. Just once in my life, I want to be in, and not an outcast! Is that too much to ask for? But now I can’t have that, can I? Dad, you ruined my life! I'll never forgive you for that.

BRUCE

Jesus Christ. You make it sound so simple, don't you? Well, Kid, it's not that easy. With Janice and I --

MARTIN

With you and Mom, what?

BRUCE

Well, I didn't want to tell you this, but I guess you might as well hear it sooner or later, and well, now is a good as time as any. I just figured it was better for you to have a poor father than a rotten excuse for a mother figure.

MARTIN

Dad, you're not making any sense.

Martin finds his way to the couch his dad had planned to sit on as his father sits next to him as he keeps turned face to face.

BRUCE

I figured it was better for you not to know. I was only trying to spare you the pain.

MARTIN

(pleading)

Dad. Out with it. What about Mom? What did she...do?

BRUCE

Kid, Janice, you mother...she had a -- She had an affair. And with her gone, we may never know where your powers will lead us. I mean, every day they get stronger and stronger. Your mom knew how to control hers. But with you, and this divorce – I mean, she left us to go off to Paris. How far are your powers going to go before someone will get hurt?

Martin sets his icepack down on the coffee table as he looks into his father's eyes. Father and son stare at each other, as we can be certain this conversation is not over.

24 EXT. SKY BALDWIN'S APARTMENT

25 INT. SKY BALDWIN'S APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM

SKY BALDWIN, now years older, is curled tight and alone on her white vinyl couch thinking to herself as she strokes her blonde shoulder-length hair. She is troubled by lies. But her thoughts are interrupted by her fiancé, SAMMY INGRID, a younger man with a trimmed goatee.

SAMMY

I can't wait to meet your parents tonight.

SKY

(hinting)

Sammy, dear, wouldn't you like to go out tonight, just the two of us?

Sammy sighs as he stands behind the couch as he closely hugs his fiancée. She returns the hug as she holds his hands close to her heart.

SKY

Come on. Aimee's at school and is going to spend the night at that Tammy girl's house, I get done working...basically whenever I feel like it...you get done at five from driving your cab all around Lawrenceville --

SAMMY

Yeah. Could be worse. I could be one of those sleazy reporters for the Lawrenceville Daily Journal.

SKY

Ha! That'd be the day. I can just imagine you being on of those journalists investigating some crime in Israel or Pakistan...

SAMMY

Or Carla, that beautiful secretary you have stashed away at GMI all day long doing God only knows.

SKY

Looks like I'll have to keep an eye on you and my Carla next time...

SAMMY

Lock her up and throw away the key.

SKY

(giggles)

Oh really?

SAMMY

'Cuz I only have eyes for you.

SKY

Well that is comforting. So Sweetie, come on. What do you say? Just you and me at Rosemary's...without my parents. They would just get in the way and try and run our lives anyway. Our eternal lives together.

Sky leans back and kisses him on his lips. Sammy returns the kiss and then makes his way around her couch as he leans his strong body against her inviting arms.

SKY

That's all I want. I want us to be together forever.

SAMMY

(sitting up)

Sky, I think you are just over-reacting. After all, it's just a dinner date. Just us four getting to know each other before the wedding.

Sky gets up from the couch abruptly and grabs her coat and fumbles with her earrings as she gets ready for work. Sammy stares at her lovingly. He stays seated on the couch as she is getting ready to leave.

SKY

What?

SAMMY

I was just remembering why I gave you that statue of the angel when we first met.

Sky turns behind her and looks at a delicate white ceramic angel statue above the fireplace. She laughs as he gets up and kisses her goodbye, as he runs his fingers through her blonde hair.

SAMMY

My Angel. I'll never let anything happen to you.

Sky gives out an insecure smile as she hugs him lovingly. Sammy gets up and leaves to go to work. He lets the door shut behind him as Sky gets up and pulls at her hair.

SKY

You don’t understand – I don’t have any parents. Sky Baldwin never did.

BEGINNING CREDITS ROLL

FADE IN

26 EXT. CURIE BANK - PARKING LOT - LATER

Mary Ivy drives into the parking lot of the place where she and East Side Street resident neighbor, EDWARD DUNCAN worked. She drives past an unfamiliar parked car. The license plate read: BERLMAN. She parks her vehicle in an open space and steps out looking at the car that just pulled in next to her.

MARY

(confused)

Who the hell is Berlman?

Edward had just arrived at work and steps out of his vehicle and waves at Mary as he comes to greet her a good morning. He slams his car door shut.

MARY

(to Edward)

Do you recall a Berlman?

EDWARD

Beats the shit outta me.

MARY

Late again?

EDWARD

Oh, and I suppose you have your office outside now?

MARY

Well...

EDWARD

Come on. Let's be brave and walk in late together.

The two laugh as they head to work hand in hand as friends, neighbors, and co-workers..

27 INT. CURIE BANK - MAIN OFFICE - ONE MINUTE LATER

Rose Andrews stands by RANKLYN MORALES, female French secretary at the bank, who works for ELLEN CURIE, the owner of Curie Bank. Rose looks at the paper on Rankyln's desk in the bank lobby.

ROSE

I still can't believe he's back.

RANKLYN

(almost in a whisper and leaning in closer)

I knew it!

(beat)

Oh, um, Rose...

Ranklyn points at the front door. Edward and Mary walk through the door together as Rose turns around.

ROSE

Well, Ranklyn, what d'ya know?

(beat)

Why Mary! Late again, I see. I knew that was you by Eddie's ol' car.

Mary ignores her enemy's false friendliness.

ROSE

(scoffs)

Well, good morning to you too, Mary.

EDWARD

Rose, just leave her alone.

ROSE

(laughing)

Oh, Eddie. Can't a girl have some fun?

Mary walks to her office and closes the door shut as Edward does the same, although he doesn't notice at first Rose is acting as his shadow.

28 INT. CURIE BANK - EDWARD'S OFFICE

ROSE

So, you wanna go out sometime?

EDWARD

Right, like I'm sure your big ego could fit in such a little ol' car like mine.

Rose sits on the edge of Edward's desk. He pretends not to notice her suggestive behavior.

ROSE

You don't know what you are missing...

EDWARD

(not caring)

Ugly dress. Where did you find it?

He looks at her outfit which is a long tight fitted dress which is half black and half white in a diagonal split with a red cartoon-ish flower pasted off to one side. Rose looks down at her dress and pouts. She did like it, but Edward has lowered her self-esteem too much for her to appreciate its original design.

EDWARD

Seriously though, yeah I do know what I'm missing. And I am glad I'm missing it! So could you get me some Tylenol, 'cuz frankly, Rose you are giving me a headache already.

He turned in his chair to find something in his file cabinet. Rose slammed it shut, almost trapping his hand in it. Edward looked up at her and glared into her smile.

ROSE

You do realize that comedy is not what it used to be? Hell, look at Seinfeld. His career is pretty much over.

(break)

Comedians get nowhere in life. And that's where you are headed. Nowhere. So, Eddie, you should really get your pathetic stand-up or sit-down or whatever you're doing and get it together or some day all your little psychotic humor will catch up to you and kick you square in the ass.

EDWARD

Don't worry, I'll invite you to see how cold it is, because if you are saying something that is true, it'll be the day that hell freezes over...Oh! Just like the day you and Robert will get together. 'Cuz well, last time I checked, him and Mary were pretty cozy together... not to mention, happily married.

ROSE

I doubt that. He couldn't love a bitch like her.

EDWARD

Yeah, and those three kids are definitely a sign of their hate they've had for each other for - what has it been now? My, oh my - seventeen years of pure bliss with no Rose Andrews in Robert's life. What a lucky man. God I envy him.

ROSE

You're wrong.

Edward looks amusingly surprised, just waiting to hear what his neighbor has to inform him of.

EDWARD

(teasing)

Do tell. And leave out no details...

ROSE

Robert loves me. He told me so!

EDWARD

One too many brewskies, huh? Well, you know AA can cure that.

ROSE

You know, you’re just jealous of me!

EDWARD

Oh Rose, please!

ROSE

No, I’m serious. Ever since you’ve been back in Lawrenceville you’ve acted so strange. Everything is now a joke to you all of sudden. Well, get serious for once. Like the ol’ Eddie I remember. We used to have such good times together, remember? Or did you forget that too? I saved you from that explosion that almost killed your life, and you don’t even seem to care! The doctors say you can’t remember what happened to you for those six missing years of your life, but I don’t think you want to know what happened!

(break)

You don’t do you?

He looks at his watch as if he is psychiatrist with a patient and his session is now up. Edward pushes Rose off his desk and stands behind her with his hands on her shoulders, guiding her out of his office.

EDWARD

Look, this isn’t about me. It’s about you. And even if Robert did say he loved you, Rose, I'm pretty sure a smart man like he is would be over such a sick fascination...that is, if there ever was a fascination in the first place. And well, that's more than I can say for you. Plus, do try and remember...he's married.

Edward shuts the door behind Rose as she turns to tell him one last thing before she goes to work. She glances through his office door window, but Edward finds the rod for the blinds and twists them shut. Rose stands alone as she comforts herself, with hugging arms.

ROSE

(quietly)

Wherever he is...whatever he's doing...he will think of me. Do you got that Edward?!

(shaking her head)

Edward, he loves me. Oh, he loves me...I'll make him love me! If you can’t love me anymore, than maybe he will.

29 EXT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - LATER THE SAME DAY

The parking lot of the restaurant is packed with the noon rush hour traffic of Lawrenceville. The sign saying Rosemary's Supper Club, is beautifully inscribed with a delicate ribbon font for Rosemary's and bold block letters for the word Supper Club.

30 INT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - BAR

ROSEMARY CALABRO, long dark-colored curly haired Italian owner of Rosemary's, gives a quick reassuring smile at some of the gentlemen who are sitting at the black marble bar, sipping their drinks, all the while staring at Rosemary as she passed on by.

ROSEMARY

Enjoying your drinks?

MAN

(referring to Rosemary)

Wonderful.

ROSEMARY

(ignoring the comment)

Great.

Rosemary walks away as the men continued talking.

MAN

Now that's a woman.

OTHER MAN

You said it. Gotta get me one of those.

31 INT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - KITCHEN - SECONDS LATER

Rosemary walks around a neatly cluttered kitchen. She stops behind Robert Ivy and rubs Robert on the back as he stirs a pot of soup on a shiny new stove.

ROSEMARY

Doing a great job. Keep it up, Bob.

ROBERT

(laughs)

Thanks, I guess. I know I'm probably not as good of a cook as Antonio was, but, you know.

ROSEMARY

No, you've been doing good these last couple of weeks, considering the pressure you've been under lately.

ROBERT

What pressure?

ROSEMARY

Come on. You don't know?

ROBERT

No? Should I?

ROSEMARY

You're marriage? Hello! You can't fool me.

ROBERT

Oh. Well, actually Mary and I are quite happy FYI.

Rosemary motions for him to stop stirring the soup as she points her hand forward for him to walk away. He does as she grabs the white shirt of MARK LYLE, a waiter who just clocked out.

ROSEMARY

(ordering)

Stir!

MARK

(stuttering)

But I - I just clocked out --

ROSEMARY

Stir!

MARK

But --

ROSEMARY

(grabbing his hand to force him to stir)

Dammit you retard, just freakin' stir it!

Rosemary quickly hurries to catch up with Robert.

MARK

What crawled up your panties, Bitch?

Rosemary didn't hear Mark's last comment as she caught up to Robert who was walking outside the kitchen and towards Rosemary's back office.

32 INT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - OFFICE - MOMENTARILY

ROSEMARY

Spill it.

She gently shuts the door behind her as Robert has a seat on her couch in her flowery office room.

ROBERT

Spill what? I am happy with Mary! Why shouldn't I be?

ROSEMARY

I don't know? Maybe you could tell me.

She leans on her desk and folds her arms.

ROBERT

Well, it's just we've been through so much and now it's changed. I mean, Mary and I have had Ellen and Rose in our faces ever since we've been together. Ellen even faked being pregnant with my child.

ROSEMARY

(laughing)

When was this?

ROBERT

Long before my kids were born. Long before I knew you. But Mary and I have been so happy until now with her working so closely with Rose and Ellen Curie and I don't even know anymore. You know? It's like Rose has to be near me flirting or near my wife and making her life a living hell.

ROSEMARY

You make it seem like she has a personal vendetta against you.

ROBERT

Well that's what it seems like a lot of the time. She reminds me of this one girl I remember dating back before I knew Mary. Rita Jean Miller. Now there's a woman filled with obsession. Whoa!

ROSEMARY

Well, what are you and Mary doing tonight?

ROBERT

Well I was thinking about going to the East Side Mall and see this new Meg Ryan movie she's been just raving about. Some people from the bank told her it was good, but I don't know. I never really cared for Meg Ryan very much.

ROSEMARY

Neither did I. I am more of a Sandra Bullock fan myself.

ROBERT

Really? So am I. Hope Floats? Have you seen it?

ROSEMARY

No but really want to.

ROBERT

We should rent it sometime.

ROSEMARY

Okay.

ROBERT

Deal?

ROSEMARY

Yeah.

ROBERT

Great then it's a date. Just let me know when you're free sometime.

ROSEMARY

Sure. Sure thing.

Their closeness is interrupted by the ringing of the phone. Rosemary picks it up like it is the enemy.

ROSEMARY

(into phone)

Rosemary's Supper Club. Rosemary Calabro speaking.

33 (cont.) INT. CURIE BANK - MARY'S OFFICE

MARY

(into phone)

Hello, Rosemary. This is --

ROSEMARY

(in a pissed tone from phone)

Yes, he's here.

34 (cont.) INT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - OFFICE

Rosemary smiles at Robert as she speaks into the phone.

ROSEMARY

(into phone)

Would you like to talk to him?

MARY

(from phone)

Yes. That would be great.

Rosemary covers the mouthpiece of the phone as she hands the phone to Robert who takes it in his hands.

ROSEMARY

It's for you.

ROBERT

(into phone)

Hi, Sweetheart.

She leaves the room, and shuts the door, but reopens it.

ROSEMARY

Five minutes. We've got a restaurant to run.

35 (cont.) EXT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - OFFICE

Rosemary stands against the wall of the office as she sighs knowing she will never have Robert.

ROSEMARY

There’s no way I can compete with that! There has to be a way to get rid of Mary for once and for all…and I know just the ticket…

She smiles to herself and then gleefully walks backs towards the kitchen.

36 INT. CHESTNUT HIGH - ONE HOUR LATER

AIMEE BALDWIN, Sky's teenage daughter, obviously into witchcraft and is completely dressed in black clothing and heavy jewelry. She has long blonde hair, almost as if she were an adolescent version of her mother. Next to her is her best friend, Brenish Ivy. They are sitting in the hallways at the end of their lunch break. People have ignored the bell, knowing they have seven minutes to get to their next class and so many have stuck around to finish lunch conversations and catch up on gossip. Brenish and Aimee keep staring at the crowds of guys on both sides of the hallways.

AIMEE

So have you seen Martin at all today? We have that presentation to get together for Friday.

BRENISH

I don't know. I didn't see him by Josh's locker this morning. But it probably has to do with something with his dad.

AIMEE

(quietly, looking down)

Yeah.

BRENISH

I mean that whole divorce was bogus. I mean, and now my parents. Jeesh. this whole world is going to hell.

AIMEE

Tell me about it.

BRENISH

I can't wait till I get married so I can prove to the world that you can be married for more than a few months. I mean, it seems like we're living in Divorce Capital or some shit like that.

AIMEE

Yeah, Marty, he thinks the whole divorce is his fault, but he's just...I don't even know what I'm talking about. Maybe we should head to class.

Aimee gets up from her spot and grabs her Family Education book as she starts to walk away much to Brenish's surprise. Brenish gets up and stops Aimee from walking away.

BRENISH

No, wait. What are you talking about?

AIMEE

Well, maybe I'm just sick of everyone talking about divorces and stuff and making their lives sound like hell, when I don't even know my father.

BRENISH

(apologizing)

Oh my, God. I'm so sorry. I forgot your daddy died in the war...

AIMEE

No it's okay, really, I mean I was two, it's not like I knew him or anything, but I wish I would or at least have the privilege of having a father figure in my life.

BRENISH

Hey, you got Sammy and he's pretty cool you have to admit.

AIMEE

Sammy's nice and all, but Mom and him aren't even married yet, and well, he's not Daddy. I wish sometimes, Brenish, I just knew more about him and how he was but every time I bring it up to my mom she just avoids the topic like it's a big secret or something like that. She hasn't even mentioned a word of it to Sammy yet. I mean, why? What's there to hide? You know?

BRENISH

Yeah. I hear ya. It's gotta be tough for you...

AIMEE

Right. I mean, it is, right? So why won't Mom tell me anything?

BRENISH

Maybe she's just protecting you from a depression cycle or some shit. It was hard on her, and it could be hard on you...I don't know what to say.

Aimee stops by her locker to put a bookmark in her Family Education textbook, but on the page there is a picture of a girl and an older man, obviously daughter and father, and the girl was sitting on a swing set, as her father pushed her, and the two were laughing. The bold type heading read: GETTING TO KNOW YOUR PARENTS. Aimee slams the book shut, not letting Brenish see what the page had on it as she grabs her book under her arm and fumbles with the lock's combination.

AIMEE

(turning to Brenish)

I mean, I all really know about him is, that he died in the war and that alone is pretty general. I don't need graphic detail, but questions like: How did he die? And things like that...

Aimee has her locker open now and was grabbing books for her next class as Brenish unwraps a sucker and stares at one of the group of guys in the hallways. They were all entranced in the conversation they were having, but one of them looked Brenish's way. His name was JEFF THOMPSON, another junior.

BRENISH

I don't know if this will make you feel better, but Jeff Thompson is staring at you.

AIMEE

Really? Where? Where is he?

Aimee quickly shuts her locker door and looks at the crowd of guys. The girls giggle.

BRENISH

(laughing)

Don't look!

However Aimee is able to make eye contact with Jeff as he winks at her as Aimee flashes him a goofy last-minute smile as her and Brenish walk away to their next class.

AIMEE

(gushing)

Oh, he's so cute!

As the girls walk past the lockers, Brenish laughing with the sucker in her mouth and Aimee giggling about Jeff, Martin Silverman's locker can be seen with a poster reading: GOOD JOB IN BASKETBALL MARTY!

37 INT. CHESTNUT HIGH - MR. SEARING'S ROOM - SHORTLY AFTER

Aimee Baldwin enters MR. SEARING's English room with a cute smile plastered on her face as she grins at Jeff Thompson who is already in his assigned seat, directly across the room from Aimee's. He nods his head approvingly. Brenish follows Aimee to her desk and sits right behind her, playfully slapping her back. Aimee spins around in her desk, setting her notebooks to the side.

AIMEE

(giggling)

What? Can't a girl flirt anymore?

BRENISH

Well, ya gonna ask him out already?

AIMEE

I don't know! He probably thinks I'm weird.

BRENISH

Oh, shut up! They all do - so what?

AIMEE

Well, you ask him for me...

BRENISH

Don't be a hollow-headed dumb ass. He likes you.

AIMEE

(changing the topic)

Well, who you gonna ask out?

BRENISH

I don't know.

(beat)

How can you be over Martin so quickly?

AIMEE

Bren, that was a month ago at least.

BRENISH

At most!

AIMEE

You ask him out then!

BRENISH

(defensively)

No! I don't --

AIMEE

(cutting in)

Then drop it!

BRENISH

Why'd you two break up in the first place?

AIMEE

(covering up something)

Busy times, what can I say?

BRENISH

Yeah. Guys are stupid.

Aimee points at Jeff who's talking to his jock friends. They burst out laughing as Mr. Searing tries to take roll call calling out names of students.

AIMEE

Yeah, but they are so cute.

(beat)

Come on. Ya gotta like someone. Prom date?

BRENISH

That's months away. I have plenty of time, Aim.

AIMEE

Bren, time flies when you socialize.

BRENISH

Oh? Another brilliant quote of the day coming from the only girl who can wiggle her butt to a man's heart?

AIMEE

We’re juniors. There’s no such thing as a man at Chestnut. They’re all boys.

(break)

Now, come on, tell Mommy who you lust with all your heart.

BRENISH

It doesn't matter. I can't get guys. You're the popular to-be model cheerleader chick.

AIMEE

Right. Buffy, leader of the cheerleading squad. You really think those bimbos even care about me. They probably think I’m going to put a spell on them.

BRENISH

You wouldn’t, would you?

AIMEE

Oh, Brenish. You know I only put spells on my friends.

BRENISH

Wait, a minute – what? What spell did you put on me?

AIMEE

Relax – I was only foolin’ around. Besides, what about you? You’re happenin’, right?

BRENISH

Me? A party animal? Come on. Get with the program. I'm an artistic book-infested geek Brittanica.

AIMEE

(frowning, turning around in her desk)

You’re such a loser, Bren.

(turning back around with a grin)

But a lovable outcast.

BRENISH

(smiling)

Whatever.

MR. SEARING

(shouting to the loud classroom, o.c.)

Aimee Baldwin?

AIMEE

(to Mr. Searing)

Here.

Jeff Thompson looks at his friends as he begins to tell a story of his previous love affair.

JEFF

So Jess was like, "Hey." Y'know?

BRYAN LINDAYLE his best friend sits behind him listening to his story.

BRYAN

Dude!

(beat)

So, was like that the Blade girl you've been seeing?

JEFF

Smokin'. Jess Blade. She's all that. She's a fox!

BRYAN

Yeah? So not like Retarded Spice or anything?

JEFF

Sorry. Don't go for your rebounds, Bryan.

BRYAN

(teasing)

Your ma.

(pointing)

What about that Baldwin chick? Or should I say, Broom Hilda?

JEFF

(controlling his feelings)

She's cool. But gothic. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her wear anything ‘cept black.

BRYAN

She’s rich! Or should I say, witch. Dude, she's the one.

JEFF

The one what?

BRYAN

Tally-mark on your hit list. We're talking bulls-eye. Fifty points right there for that pagan conversion. If you can get the devil herself to sleep with you, you’ll win the game for sure.

Mr. Searing is still taking attendance as he calls out several names.

MR. SEARING

Lori Kay Haddonfield?

LORI

Whasup?

MR. SEARING

(sarcastically smiling)

Cute.

(break)

Brenish Ivy?

Brenish looks down at her notebook she has laid out on her desk. She is staring deep into the notebook paper as she draws a familiar face of the one she secretly loves. Martin Silverman.

MR. SEARING

Brenish Ivy?

BRENISH

(looking up surprised)

Oh. Present.

She circles his face with a quick and sketchy-looking heart-shape and then quickly sets her pencil on the desk and closes her notebook. She blushes to herself as she combs back a hair dangling over her innocent eyes as she looks away guilt-free.

38 INT. CURIE BANK - MARY'S OFFICE - LATER ON

Mary is sitting all alone at her desk eating what is left of her lunch: a cheese sandwich and a soda. She is still thinking about the name Berlman and where she heard it before.

MARY

Where have I heard that name Berlman before?

She takes a bite of her sandwich. All of a sudden, there is a knock at her office door.

MARY

(with mouth full of food)

Come in.

She sips her soda as Edward Duncan walks into the office with a file in his hands.

MARY

Shoot.

EDWARD

Okay Mary, but you may not like this. Remember Max Curie, that pompous ass father of Ellen's?

Mary nods her head not sure where this is all going.

EDWARD

Well he ran this place for a while...

MARY

Wait, wasn't Max the run who abandoned Ellen and her sisters when they were younger?

She takes another sip of her soda, but misses completely and almost chokes on the straw. Luckily Edward doesn't notice her embarrassing situation.

EDWARD

Left them practically for dead. Luckily they had their mother who cared for them. But I still say it really messed up Ellen.

MARY

(rolling eyes)

No doubt about that.

(laughs)

EDWARD

But after he left, Ron Silvers, the first, not that doctor Robert met at the convention last year, but his father was Max's partner and gave sole custody of the bank to his step-son --

MARY

(quickly remembering)

Carl Berlman! Duh! I knew I heard that name before...

EDWARD

Yeah, well, get this - Ellen manipulated Carl to gain back the rights to operate her father's bank --

MARY

(acting surprised)

Ellen - manipulating people? No...

EDWARD

(chuckling)

I know, I know it's surprising but yes.

MARY

And so now what? She feels like she's in daddy dearest's footsteps?

EDWARD

(teasing)

And you're only a Vice President? You should be a detective somewhere in L.A.

Mary gives him a "very funny" sarcastic look.

EDWARD

But as I found out from Ranklyn, Carl still runs this place...has for the last five years that you've been thinking Ellen had. Honey, you're not working for Ellen; you are working for Carl. He's the real president here and he's back!

Mary and Edward are interrupted as Rose Andrews appears out of nowhere.

ROSE

He's back? What?

MARY

(standing)

Get the hell out of here!

Edward turns around to force her out of Mary's office.

EDWARD

Rose --

He is about to grab her arm.

ROSE

Don't even think about it, Mister. I'll sue.

EDWARD

Baby.

ROSE

(sad imitation)

Goo-goo, ga-ga.

MARY

Fine, Rose. Stay. Whatever. Just...don't break anything or touch anything, alright?

ROSE

Yes, Your Majesty.

MARY

(to Edward)

So you're serious. He's back? Why the hell didn't Ellen tell me this? Jesus, I'm the freakin' VP, right? I should have a right to know! Right?

Rose goes to play with some of Mary's photos of her family she has on the wall, but Mary and Edward don't see her. Then she finds a picture of Robert and runs her fingers across it.

EDWARD

Well actually --

Rose violently turns herself from the pictures as she faces the two as she becomes part of the conversation once again.

ROSE

Why would she want to talk to someone who obviously has an anger dysfunction?

MARY

Don't talk!

ROSE

Well, all I'm saying is --

MARY

(to Edward)

Get her out of here!

ROSE

(to Mary)

No!

(referring to Edward)

If he can be in here...

MARY

He knocked!

ROSE

Oh, I'm so sorry if I gave you a heart attack.

(referring to Mary’s husband)

Next time I'll bring Dr. Bob along with me.

MARY

Next time, I'll slap you with a restraining order. Stay away from my husband, Rose!

ROSE

A restraining order for entering an office without knocking.

(scoffs)

Whatever. But speaking of Bobby, where is he now?

MARY

Robert is at Rosemary's, alright?

ROSE

Depends. Business or pleasure?

MARY

He works there part time when he's not at Mc Clure Medical Center, but I'm sure you already knew that due to you stalking his every move.

(pissed)

I swear to God, he would sneeze, and there you would be with a stupid Kleenex in your bony hand saying "Bless you"!

ROSE

Am I really that predictable? I just can't get over your ignorance though, Mary. I mean how many women does he have to sleep with before you wake up and sniff the coffee.

EDWARD

(to Rose)

It's smell the coffee.

ROSE

Shut up, Eddie!

(to Mary)

Hmm?

MARY

Well first of all, your attempts have been both desperate and foolish, and so last decade. So fine. Continue if you wish, but just realize you have no chance at even beginning to know the meaning of true love and what you stand against.

(beat)

Now is there a point to your barging into my office when I'm in the middle of a conversation, Rose?

ROSE

More like gossip, if you ask me, but actually it's about your conversation.

(beat)

(surprised)

Carl's back?! So what I read in the paper was true? God I was just hoping I was dreaming.

EDWARD

(sympathetically)

Sorry, but the beauty sleep isn't working...

(beat)

Besides, when has kissing ass ever stopped you?

ROSE

I kiss no one's ass. Especially an asshole's like Carl's.

MARY

Get used to it. He'll be here for a very long time.

ROSE

Yeah, but what's gonna happen to Ellen?

EDWARD

She'll get a new job, or some shit. Whores R Us most likely.

MARY

(to Edward)

You're terrible.

ROSE

(to Mary)

I'd fire him.

MARY

I'll fire you if you don't get out of my office!

Rose quickly leaves Mary's office to go and find Ellen Curie.

39 EXT. CHESTNUT HIGH - 4 O'CLOCK

Buses have gathered around the school as the school day has ended.

40 INT. CHESTNUT HIGH - HALLWAY

Aimee was talking to her friend TAMMY O'BRIEN. She had blonde hair just like Aimee, except she was a little heavier, yet still pretty and very friendly.

TAMMY

Hey, would it be alright if you didn't come over tonight, Aimee?

AIMEE

Why?

TAMMY

Oh no! It's not you - it's just this new boy in Science. Oh my, God. He's to die for!

Aimee is not listening as she sees Jeff Thompson leaving the school looking back at her once and then turning to his friends.

TAMMY

Let me tell ya what! I think you'd like him. I should have you meet him sometime.

Tammy notices Aimee's wandering attention.

TAMMY

Like, Aimee, have you even heard a word I said?

AIMEE

What?

TAMMY

Omigod! You've been checking out that Thompson boy!

AIMEE

(cracking an innocent smile)

Have not.

TAMMY

You like him or something?

AIMEE

Jeff. Me? No. He's just a friend - I - he...no! I...

TAMMY

Oh, but I think you do!

AIMEE

No, I don't know, we never talk but...Oooh! Well, he sits in front of me in English and he has the cutest butt...

TAMMY

Why Aimee. You sex pot!

AIMEE

Hardly.

TAMMY

Well, so no hard feelings about tonight?

AIMEE

No that's alright. I should probably go to GMI anyway and tell my mom I'll be home.

TAMMY

Such a good little girl. I want a kid just like you when I get old and fat with gray hair.

AIMEE

Whatever.

TAMMY

Oh, you think I'm already ahead of the game?

AIMEE

You're model material.

TAMMY

Mommy taught you well huh?

(beat)

So like, what, she owns the whole East Side Mall now or what?

AIMEE

No, just Fearless Fashions. And GMI Fashions.

TAMMY

Cool. Must be nice to have a fashion designer slash model scout for a mother.

AIMEE

It's great...

TAMMY

Your dad must have been so proud of her.

AIMEE

(insecure)

I guess...

TAMMY

So you need a lift or what?

AIMEE

Sure. Your mom picking you up?

TAMMY

Naw, my sis, and her hot for shit boyfriend.

Aimee laughs as the girls walk outside to wait for Tammy's sister to arrive.

41 INT. CHESTNUT HIGH - ANOTHER HALLWAY - SAME TIME

Brenish grabs her brother on the shoulder as he turns around surprised that it's his sister and not some girl with a crush. He stands in the middle of the hallway with people filing out the doors all around him. He looks at his twin sister as he shifts his gym bag onto his left shoulder as the two siblings have a rushed conversation.

BASHIMAH

(very sarcastically)

Now what? I don't have money. Why? 'Cuz I don't have a job! And why? 'Cuz you got the job at Ardell's and I didn't! Hmmm...how do you like that?!

Brenish grabs some money from her pocket and places it in her brother's hand as he accepts it.

BRENISH

No, Bashimah. I don't need money. Hell, here's a five. Get something to eat or whatever. I was just wondering if you've seen Marty at school today? I don't know where he is.

BASHIMAH

No. I look for chicks. You look for your best friends. Remember this? Okay, well, see, I gotta go. 'Cuz since I don't have a job at Ardell's, 'cuz you got it, um, Mom and Dad put me in football where I get my ass beat up every day after school. Alright? See ya.

BRENISH

Whatever, Bashimah. I'll be home if you call or --

BASHIMAH

Yeah. Whatever. Thanks for the money.

Brenish walks away and yells back.

BRENISH

Don't mention it.

BASHIMAH

See ya later.

BRENISH

Bye.

BASHIMAH

See ya.

BRENISH

(getting angry)

Why do you always need the last word?

BASHIMAH

I don't.

BRENISH

Just stop it!!

BASHIMAH

Stop what?

Brenish throws up her arms while walking backwards into the crowd of students herding out of the building. She knows her twin never seems to lose a conversation, so why even try.

42 INT. CURIE BANK - ELLEN'S OFFICE - HALF AN HOUR LATER

Ellen Curie, Curie Bank President (the last street resident left to mention) and CARL BERLMAN are having a heated conversation in Ellen's heavily decorated office at the bank. She is seated in her thick dark leather chair as Carl stands in front of her desk allowing his arms to be rested on the desk edge as he stares at her face.

ELLEN

Well, if you want a medal for winning back my father's bank...I'm not sure I can afford to just hand them out.

CARL

Sad to say, Darling, but the bank was mine the whole time.

ELLEN

Just leave me alone. Go cause trouble for the rest of Lawrenceville. It's what you live for, isn't it?

CARL

Well, now that you mention it, I do have my eyes set on Sky Baldwin, over GMI. Beautiful woman.

ELLEN

Forget it. She's a lost cause, not to mention my best friend. She is already taken off the market. Looks like you came too late.

CARL

Taken?

ELLEN

Betrothed...married...you know.

CARL

(dropping jaw)

She's married?

ELLEN

Will be happily married in three months. I'll be the beautiful bridesmaid.

CARL

She's engaged?

ELLEN

Wipe your mouth. You're drooling.

(beat)

Yes, she engaged. Why? How do you even know her?

CARL

(stuttering)

I...I just saw her name in the paper, that's all.

ELLEN

(buying it)

Oh.

CARL

So where are you going to be working?

ELLEN

Screw you! On the streets begging for scraps...crumbs...Why do you care? You got what you wanted? No sour grapes for you. Just good eatin'. So be happy and just leave me the hell alone.

CARL

Fine. But before I go, do you happen to have a apartment for rent in that East Side Apartment building of yours?

ELLEN

What?

CARL

Oh, nothing. I just heard it was the best place in the world to live at.

ELLEN

Are you kidding me? People drop like flies there. I don't even know why I rent the freakin' apartments out. I might as well tear the whole place down.

(beat)

So how'd you know I live there?

CARL

I know more about you and this city than you know, Ms. Curie.

Ellen gives an uneasy smile as she ponders his comment as he walks out the door.

ELLEN

You know, I almost missed your absence - almost.

Carl turned around for a split second to give Ellen a grim look, only for him to run into Rose Andrews, who seems to be out of breath.

ELLEN

Rose?

ROSE

Ellen. You are not an easy person to keep track of. In and out of meetings all day. Jesus. No Jenny Craig for you. Only Primitive NordicTrack.

ELLEN

What do you want, Rose?

ROSE

(cheerfully sarcastic)

What is it with you and Mary? Always so happy to see me.

ELLEN

Well, I'm sure Mary has a reason to hate you.

ROSE

Okay, Miss I-Faked-Being-Pregnant-With-Bobby's-Child.

ELLEN

That was over fifteen years ago. Give it a rest. You act like a two-year old. Please, just grow up and act mature for once, and stop trying to toss stones you don't have left to toss!

ROSE

(scoffs)

Jeesh. What's up your ass?

ELLEN

(in tears)

I don't know.

(standing)

Could it be I don't have a job?

ROSE

(hitting her chest, falsely apologetic)

Oh.

ELLEN

I mean, if you hadn't noticed, things are going to hell here at the bank. I mean, Carl is back and we are all in for a lot of trouble with plenty of explaining to do.

(beat)

God, Mary must hate me for keeping this a secret.

ROSE

Aw, forget it, Champ. GMI will hire you.

ELLEN

Hopefully Sky will be understanding.

ROSE

She owes ya.

ELLEN

(agreeing)

Yeah.

(shaking her head)

Wow. I must be sick.

(wiping tears off her face)

I'm listening to you.

ROSE

(smiling)

Gee, thanks.

(beat)

So Carl’s back?

ELLEN

Yes.

ROSE

And how does he know Sky again?

ELLEN

What? Were you listening to the whole conversation?

ROSE

Well, I was just saying that if I were you, I’d be a little suspicious of his motives, that’s all.

ELLEN

What are you trying to say?

ROSE

He seemed to – I don’t know – be connected with her.

ELLEN

He doesn’t even know her.

(beat)

(realizing Rose is right)

He saw her name in the paper, that’s all.

ROSE

Awful shame if he got in the way of Sky’s engagement.

ELLEN

It won’t happen.

ROSE

I mean, I know you despise Sammy and all, I mean, really, he is a loser. A cab driver? Puh-leeze!

ELLEN

Carl won’t make any more lives into bits of debris. Alright? So back of! I have to pack my shit.

ROSE

(lying)

Sad to see you go.

ELLEN

(sarcastically)

Even more sad to leave you.

ROSE

Yeah, but at least now we’ll have someone who’ll be able to manage a bank.

Ellen pulls out her hand to slap Rose. But she ducks at the last minute. Ellen almost falls over, but ends up ramming Rose into her office wall instead, tightening her arm around Rose’s neck.

ELLEN

(demanding)

Listen, if you know something about Carl Berlman that you are not telling me, I will eat you alive.

ROSE

(defiantly)

You wouldn’t want a bunch of ol’ bones like me, now would ya?

(beat)

Besides, then I couldn’t share with you my little secret.

ELLEN

(giving in)

What?

ROSE

Your best friend has more skeletons in her life than a high school science lab.

ELLEN

Like what?

ROSE

(laughs)

Name your price.

ELLEN

When I regain control of this bank I will make you my partner.

ROSE

What if you don’t get this place back?

ELLEN

Oh, I will.

ROSE

What about Mary?

ELLEN

She’ll be out flipping burgers making minimum wage somewhere

ROSE

Alright. What if I told you Sky and Sammy couldn’t get married?

ELLEN

What if I said you’re a delusional psychotic?

ROSE

What if I said I could prove it?

Ellen gives her an intense expression of curiosity and lets go of Rose and Rose rubs her neck and is able to start to breathe normally once again.

ROSE

You get back your bank and make me your lovable partner, and I’ll prove to you Sky Baldwin is not only not who she says she is, but in the process you’ll learn some valuable tips of how not to underestimate anyone, not even your best friends.

(beat)

What do ya say?

ELLEN

(smiling)

You’ve got yourself a partnership.

ROSE

Oh and, Ellen, one last thing.

ELLEN

What?

ROSE

(opening the door)

You may have everyone else fooled that you are as clueless as the rest about Eddie’s missing years…

(break)

(slowly closing the door)

But you don’t have me fooled.

ELLEN

(screaming)

Get out!!

Ellen, furious, throws a vase that she had just packed into the door as it shatters everywhere.

43 EXT. GMI FASHIONS - LATE AFTERNOON

The sky is getting darker as the day passes. We are now introduced to GMI Fashions as we see a sign pasted on the concrete spiral wall next to the stairs in front of the tall building. Tall tress and bushes suggest a nice family environment.

44 INT. GMI FASHIONS - SKY'S OFFICE

Sky sits alone in her office looking at the paper for at least the tenth time that hour. She can't believe Carl is back. Her whole past could be exposed for both Sammy and Aimee to see.

SKY

(to herself)

That bastard. I should've killed him when I had the chance. I should've just known he would've found me. Pasts always catch up to a person. Dammit! If Sammy finds out...everything I have done to protect my daughter...

She takes her hand in her hands as she silently sobs.

45 INT. GMI FASHIONS - OUTSIDE SKY'S OFFICE - SAME TIME

CARLA FIELDS, Sky's receptionist sees Carl walk past her.

CARLA

(rushed)

Sir, you can't go in there.

He ignores her. Carla stands up and tries to chase him away, but her attempts are rebuked when Carl walks into Sky's office.

CARLA

(ordering)

Sir!

46 INT. GMI FASHIONS - SKY'S OFFICE

The door flies open with a bang as Sky screeches as she sees Carl. Carla bursts into the room.

CARLA

I tried to stop him, Sky.

CARL

(to Sky)

Hi, Pumpkin.

(points at his picture in the paper)

Bad angle. I know. I tried to tell them. But no. Do they ever listen?

CARLA

Sky --

Sky looks like she's seen a ghost and her face has now turned a sickly paste white.

SKY

(stuttering)

I-It's okay. Re-Really. You can go. You can leave us. Please shut the door on your way out.

Carla gives wide weary eyes, but exits and closes the door.

SKY

(stuttering)

Do I-I know y-you?

CARL

Honey – it’s me! Actually, I should be asking you who you are. You’ve…what’s the word…changed since I remember the fire you supposedly died in. But hey, no complaints here. You look great for a dead woman!

SKY

Alright you bastard! How did you find me?

CARL

(referring to paper)

Still only reading the captions, I see.

(beat)

I live in Lawrenceville. Too bad it's a big city. I've missed you all these years.

SKY

They were the best twelve years of my life.

CARL

Well, obviously. Though I do feel ashamed you've left your vows and are now engaged.

SKY

What? Who told you?

CARL

I had a little chat with Ms. Curie earlier this evening.

(beat)

Her and I go back. But not as far back as you and I. I mean, New Orleans. Mmmmm. I miss that place. Your lips...your sweet caress.

He tries to kiss Sky as he backs her into her desk, but then she escapes his grasp.

SKY

Get away! Get out.

CARL

But I thought you loved me. We haven't seen each other forever and now just like that you want to get rid of me. Why, I'll never understand the female species.

SKY

Why are you here?

CARL

(frustrated)

God! This whole place has taken its toll on you too, I see.

(beat)

See, I am now booting your friend from the bank. She's out on the streets as we speak. All packed up and no place to go, 'cept Barbie's dream house...you know, the one in East Side Apartments...

SKY

How do you know where she - oh my, God! How do you know where I live? What? You’re stalking me now?

CARL

(acting offended)

I do get around!

(beat)

After all, my wife seems to have died...or escaped the face of the planet.

SKY

I'm not your wife anymore!

CARL

(teasing with laughter)

God, you're pathetic. I have the marriage license to prove it. You and I are still very much man and wife as --

SKY

No! Sammy and I are getting married in --

CARL

Three months...

SKY

And you are not going to ruin things. I have a new life now. Get over it!

Carl looks at Sky. She doesn't act as afraid as she started out as. But he still has the better of her and is stronger than her. And she knows it. He leans in for a kiss. This time she can't stop him.

CARL

Get over it? Why, Honey...If you are so in love with Sammy...would you feel anything if I did this?

He kisses her smack dab on the lips as she tries to struggle away. He releases his grip and moves his head away to look at her terrified reaction.

SKY

(referring to the kiss)

Nothing.

CARL

(being stubborn)

We're going have to work on it, huh?

(beat)

And one last question before I go - does Aimee know what happened to her father? I mean...what really happened?

Sky opens her mouth to answer, but standing in the doorway is Aimee looking curiously at her mother.

AIMEE

What about my father?

Sky opens her mouth to answer, but shuts it to think about the answer she should say as she looks at Carl. He looks over his shoulder to see Aimee. He's almost afraid of the truth coming out, yet gives a slight devilish smile to cover his fear.

47 INT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - SAME TIME

Sammy Ingrid is waiting for Sky to show up at the supper club. He called her earlier, but he doesn't realize that she is getting sidetracked from an unexpected visitor. He looks at Rosemary as she is about to walk away from the bar after telling the bartender something funny. She laughs once again for good measure as Sammy grabs her arm as she walks past him.

ROSEMARY

Sammy. Hi! Having yourself a good time?

SAMMY

Um, not really.

(beat)

Have you seen Sky anywhere? We were supposed to meet here.

ROSEMARY

(bites her lip)

Um...no...why? What time was she supposed to be here?

SAMMY

Half an hour ago.

(beat)

She's never late.

ROSEMARY

You wanna call her? There's a phone in my office you can use.

Sammy thinks about this for a moment, as he breathes in deep. Then he lets out the air as he shakes his head and gets off the barstool he was sitting on. He slams money down on the counter and walks off.

ROSEMARY

(calling out)

Where are you going?

The exit door shuts behind him as Rosemary walks off.

ROSEMARY

(laughing)

Now that’s love…

(beat)

But not like the love Robert and I will share.

48 EXT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - PARKING LOT

Sammy gets in his car and peels away.

49 EXT. SILVERMAN APARTMENT - NIGHT

Nighttime has spread over the skies as East Side Apartments is now brightly lit with street lights highlighting the trees on the sidewalk.

50 INT. SILVERMAN APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM

Bruce is flipping out on the phone as he is talking to police about his son's disappearance.

BRUCE

(occasionally pausing for response)

Dammit! I don't know what he was wearing...No, obviously I don't care about...Well, sorry if I'm a little uptight! My son has been missing all day and nobody at your office seems to give a damn and will help me.

51 (cont.)

Brenish Ivy walks opens the screen door of the house as she sees Bruce and he pays little attention to her. She heard Martin ran away.

BRUCE

(occasionally pausing for response)

Fine. Wait 48 hours. That's just great...Yeah, he'll be god only knows where by then...Yeah thanks for your help too!

He clicks the phone off and slams it on the receiver.

BRUCE

Dammit!

(whispering)

What if someone sees him and he used his powers?

Brenish walks into the living room as Bruce heads for the kitchen.

52 (cont.) INT. SILVERMAN APARTMENT - KITCHEN

Bruce looks at Brenish.

BRUCE

He ran away. I told him everything. And he ran away. I don't know what to do. My whole life is for shits. God. What did I do to deserve such misery?!

(with anger)

Somebody, please tell me!

53 (cont.) INT. SILVERMAN APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM

Brenish looks at Bruce with comfort as she stands awkwardly in the middle of the living room staring through the kitchen, which is only separated from the living room with a tiled floor.

BRENISH

(nervously)

I think I know where he is...

Bruce looks her way as she gives a slight nervous shrug.

54 INT. GMI FASHIONS - SKY'S OFFICE

Sky and Aimee are still in the room together as Sky thinks of a way to tell her daughter the truth.

SKY

(concerned)

Honey? What are you doing here? I thought you were supposed to be at Tammy's house?

AIMEE

Got cancelled. You know how it goes.

Sky nods her head. Aimee points her thumb beside her at Carl.

AIMEE

Who's he?

SKY

He was just leaving.

CARL

Was I?

AIMEE

Why were you talking about Daddy?

SKY

We weren't. We were just saying --

CARL

(to Aimee)

I asked your beautiful mother here if she was ever married and she told me once, but he's gone now.

Sky sighs at Carl's recovery. Aimee buys it and turns to the door.

AIMEE

Well, I gotta go. Tammy's sis is gonna take me home.

SKY

(lovingly)

Aw, come here you!

She gives her mom a big hug and a kiss as Carl watches their affection. Sky looks up at Carl and notices his reaction. She pats Aimee on the head.

SKY

See you when I get home.

AIMEE

(waving)

Alright. Love ya. Bye.

Aimee heads out the door waving goodbye to Carla.

AIMEE

Bye, Miss Fields.

CARLA

See ya, Sweetie.

Just as Carl and Sky look at each other long enough to know it's time to end the conversation, Sky looks at the clock on the wall.

SKY

Shit! I was supposed to meet my fiancé half an hour ago!

Carl heads out the door as he runs right into Sammy, who walks into the office.

CARL

(to Sammy)

Sammy!

SAMMY

(to Sky)

Sky!

SKY

(sighing)

Oh, God!

55 INT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - KITCHEN - NIGHT

Rosemary and Robert are cleaning up the dishes as everyone else has conveniently left the building. Rosemary stops drying one of the spatulas to look at Robert. He leaves his hands in the soapy water as he stares at her.

ROBERT

What?

ROSEMARY

(referring to their earlier conversation)

Don't do that again.

ROBERT

What?

ROSEMARY

I was just wondering...

(beat)

I was just thinking how nice it would be if you were to kiss me.

ROBERT

(shocked)

What?!

ROSEMARY

Oh come on! You know you want to.

ROBERT

I'm sorry if you got the wrong idea of me working here to replace Antonio, but I'm happily married.

ROSEMARY

Are you?

ROBERT

(voice trembling)

Yes.

ROSEMARY

No. Are you really? I mean, I know you are married, but, don't you feel it? Don't you see it?

ROBERT

Rosemary, I couldn't --

ROSEMARY

Try. Please. I won't tell. I mean, it's just us two. Who's gonna tell?

ROBERT

(crying out)

Mary trusts me!

Robert takes his hands out of water and dries them on his shirt, but still leaves suds everywhere along his arms. The two begin to talk softer, almost in a whisper.

ROSEMARY

So then she won't expect a thing...

ROBERT

I can't...

ROSEMARY

Shh....

ROSEMARY

I do love Mary...

ROSEMARY

I know you do.

Rosemary gets closer to him and hugs him as he returns the hugs and then a kiss.

56 (cont.) INT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - DINNING ROOM

Mary opens the unlocked door by the back entrance and walks into the place, hoping to see Robert. She swings her oversized purse onto the black bar top and quickly looks through the circle glass window on the door looking into the kitchen. She sees Robert and Rosemary kissing. Robert is getting intense with the kiss, but his eye catches Mary as she leaves the restaurant. Robert races out the door as he pushes Rosemary to the side, causing her to fall on the kitchen floor.

ROBERT

(extremely shocked)

Oh my, God! Mary! Come back here!

ROSEMARY

(desperate)

Robert! Come back! Robert! You’re supposed to be chasing me! Robert!

57 EXT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - PARKING LOT

Mary fumbles with her car door lock as she searches for the right key. Robert flies up to her and slams his fist on the top of the car as Mary turns to face him with tears streaming out of the corners of both her eyes.

ROBERT

Mary, I can --

MARY

How could you?

ROBERT

Mary --

MARY

I mean, how could you? After everything we've been through, you pull something like this?

ROBERT

No, Mary --

MARY

Don't even talk to...

He tries to wipe away her tears with his finger but she slaps it away.

MARY

(frantic)

Get away from me. Don't touch me!

ROBERT

(softly)

Mary, I can explain...that...

MARY

(through tears)

Explain what? I saw it! No need to explain anything. It pretty much speaks for itself. Wouldn't you say?

Robert looks down as Mary finally finds the right key and opens her car door. He rips her away before she can even sit down. She is still crying as he thinks of a way to explain this situation to her.

ROBERT

I'm sorry...I don’t know what came over me…honestly.

MARY

(laughing while crying)

Oh! "I'm sorry." Is that the best you can do? Come on, Bob! Fifteen years ago, maybe that would have been accepted, but come on, be a little more original!

Mary wipes her running nose with her coat sleeve.

MARY

I’m sorry. Yeah. That's a good one. And if only I had a dollar for every time I heard that one come out for your lips.

ROBERT

I said I'm sorry.

MARY

(laughing)

You know. I never thought I would live to see the day Rose could tell me, "I told you so." God. Fine, Robert, I'll make this really simple for you. You want her?

ROBERT

No...I --

MARY

Fine. You got her. She's all yours. Hell, and if you don't want Rosemary or Rose, you could always cheat on them with Ellen. I'm sure she still has a crush on you the size of Texas!

ROBERT

Mary --

MARY

(accusingly)

Robert!

(beat)

Look. Whatever you have to say, I don't want to hear it. I've heard enough lies to last me a lifetime. So you know what?

ROBERT

What?

MARY

(spitting out the words)

You know what - I - we - I - we're getting - I want a divorce.

ROBERT

(shrieking)

What?!

Mary gets down in the car as Robert looks down in the blackness to see her crying face.

MARY

(sobbing)

You heard. I want a divorce.

ROBERT

(yelling)

You can't!

MARY

(calmly)

I'll be going to my lawyer in the morning. I suggest you do the same. Good night, Robert.

She puts the car into drive, yet still has her foot on the brake pedal. Robert is no longer leaning on the car door anymore.

MARY

Oh, and if you do even bother coming home, um, well, you get the couch.

Robert gives her an angry and confused face of emotion. Mary lets her foot off the brake as she heads onto the highway.

MARY

(yelling back)

And you better get used to it.

Robert kicks another vehicle in the now near empty parking lot as he hears Mary drive away.

58 EXT. BALDWIN APARTMENT - NIGHT

The night is now silent. The air is calm. But the camera shows us that someone is still awake as a light can be seen in the second story of the Baldwin house. The room is none other than Aimee Baldwin's room.

59 INT. BALDWIN APARTMENT - AIMEE'S BEDROOM

Aimee sits up in her warm blanketed bed, unable to sleep. She needs the comfort of her absent mother, Sky.

AIMEE

(frantic)

I am going to find out what happened to my father if it kills me!

Aimee gets up from her bed, throwing the covers to the floor and quietly slinks out of her bedroom and tiptoes across the hall to her mother's dark room. She fumbles in the darkness as she finds the light switch. She flicks the switch on and rummages through her mother's closet for clues of her father's death. She pulls on the string dangling from the ceiling of the closet as she spots a journal - a locked diary.

AIMEE

(whispering to herself)

What is this? A diary?

She is unable to open it, due to the lock.

AIMEE

(crying out)

Dammit!

60 INT. GMI FASHIONS - SKY'S OFFICE

Sammy Ingrid, Sky's fiancé, stands dumbfounded after Carl just said his name. Sammy is sure he's never met Carl before and wonders how Carl would know him.

CARL

Sammy...

SAMMY

(to Carl)

Do I know you?

CARL

Not that I know of...but Sky's told me so much about you, I feel like I've known you for years...

SAMMY

Funny. She's told me nothing of you...

Sky knows this is not going to be a good conversation if she doesn't do something fast, so she quickly steps between the two men to give an explanation.

SKY

Sammy, this is Carl Berlman, of Curie Bank.

(beat)

He owns it...

SAMMY

But, wait a sec, doesn't Ellen own it?

CARL

Oh well, those were her words, weren't they? Not mine. See, Samuel, she never owned it. Was only presiding as President. I have been governing over Ms. Curie for the last five years now...

SAMMY

(sarcastically)

Does she know this?

SKY

Yes. She's probably on her way over her for a job position as we speak.

CARL

Well, as a matter of fact --

SKY

Carl, I suggest you leave now. Before anything gets out of hand. I'm sure my fiancé would like some time alone with me.

CARL

Yes, I supposed you are right. We wouldn't want things to get out of hand now, would we? I'll talk to you later, Miss Baldwin.

SKY

And please shut the door on your way out.

Carl exits the office giving one last stare back at Sky and then to Sammy.

SAMMY

I don't like him already. I don't know him, but I don't like him.

SKY

Sammy --

SAMMY

And where were you? We had a date tonight I do believe.

SKY

I'm so sorry...I got tied up here at the office. One of the girls had me look over some layout ideas for a shoot tomorrow afternoon and --

SAMMY

It's alright. We can do it some other night. I just wish you would've called, that's all.

(beat)

Let's just go home and we can have the whole house to ourselves.

SKY

Better make it your house, 'cuz Aimee's home right now.

SAMMY

Wasn't she supposed to be at Tammy's?

SKY

Was...but it got cancelled. You know kids.

SAMMY

(laughing)

I try to understand them...

SKY

Well, now that we’re alone, how about we just skip your house and --?

SAMMY

(excited)

You mean? But we can’t—

SKY

Why not?

SAMMY

Well, Carla’s right outside!

SKY

(kissing him)

Don’t worry.

Sky walks up to her door and seductively closes the blinds and she smiles at Sammy. The two kiss passionately as they wind up on Sky’s desk as Sky unbuttons Sammy’s shirt. He smiles and takes suit as he pulls on the strings of Sky’s dress, as it falls to the floor, leaving her standing only in her black bra and underwear. He kisses her shoulders as she closes her eyes.

SKY

Oh, I love you.

SAMMY

I love you too.

SKY

I can’t wait for our wedding.

But soon something catches Sky’s attention as she looks at a picture sitting on her desk. She gasps and pulls away from Sammy and she reaches down at the floor and pulls her dress back on, much to the surprise of her fiancé.

SAMMY

(upset)

What? Now what? What’s wrong, Honey?

SKY

I can’t. I’m sorry.

SAMMY

(buttoning up his shirt)

Did I do something wrong?

SKY

No, it’s not you. It’s not.

SAMMY

Then what is it?

Sky looks at the picture as Sammy sees what is troubling her. He picks up the picture off Sky's desk. It is a picture of Nick Baldwin. Sky's horrified reaction to this shows the eerie mood shift that is about to take place.

SAMMY

(innocently curious)

How did he die, again?

SKY

War...

SAMMY

(accepting the answer)

Mmmm...

(beat)

...how?

SKY

(defensive)

What do you mean "how?"

SAMMY

I mean, how - how did he die - in the war?

SKY

You're as bad as Aimee.

Sky grabs the picture out of his hands and sets it back on her desk. Sammy keeps his hands out for a second or two, as if he is unaware that he is no longer holding the photograph in his hands.

SAMMY

What do you mean?

SKY

She feels she needs to know everything about her father's life and death. She was two when he died.

SAMMY

That's probably why she needs to know about him. She never really knew him.

SKY

She doesn't need to.

SAMMY

Well, actually, it would probably be better if she did know. I barely knew my father before he drank himself to death. I kinda know how she's feeling.

SKY

No, you don't! You couldn't possibly understand...

SAMMY

Why? What are you talking about? What's wrong with you tonight?

SKY

Why ask why? Just get out!

SAMMY

What?

SKY

Get out of my office...

SAMMY

Why? Aimee deserves to know about where she came from.

SKY

No - she doesn't!

SAMMY

Wha --

SKY

Just drop it, alright?

SAMMY

Why don't you want me to meet your parents?

SKY

Fine! You know what? That's it! You want to meet my parents? Fine, I'll call them up and we can have dinner at Rosemary's right now if you want!

She picks up her phone from the receiver and hands it to Sammy, to challenge him. She drops the phone and begins to tremble and cry hysterically. Sammy bends down to pick up the phone and stares at Sky.

SAMMY

Rosemary's is closed. What's your problem?

SKY

(defensive)

My problem is - my past is my business.

SAMMY

(arguing)

I told you all about my life.

SKY

(being rude)

Yeah. You and your stupid Alan-Michael AIDS victim brother. Good for him!

SAMMY

What has gotten over you? Is it about Curt --

SKY

Carl!

SAMMY

What did he say to you?

SKY

Drop it! I don't want to talk about him!

SAMMY

(concerned)

Fine. But if you’d never talk about my family like that unless there was something seriously bothering me. Now please...just let me in...

Sky's sour face changes to her normal self once again as she gets closer to Sammy and gives him a massage that turns to a full hug.

SKY

(apologizing)

I'm sorry, Honey. It's just work and Aimee with school. She feels since she’s in high school she doesn’t have to do her homework and...

SAMMY

It's something more than that, isn't it? How can we get married if you won't let me into your life?

SKY

I do love you. I want us to be together...please, don't make this an issue...

Carla Fields walks in the door as she interrupted their conversation.

CARLA

Goodnight, Ms. Baldwin.

SKY

Have a good night, Carla.

SAMMY

Night, Miss Fields.

CARLA

Mr. Ingrid.

Carla walks off as she turns off the illuminating GMI Fashions light above her desk.

SKY

We should probably be leaving ourselves. It's getting awfully late, wouldn't you say?

Sky Baldwin slinks past Sammy as if he would remember nothing she had said once they left the office. She turned to give him a quick smile, something that gave Sammy chills up his spine. He knew there was more to Carl Berlman. Something that linked the man to his fiancee's past. And he was going to stop at nothing to find it out.

SAMMY

(confused by her behavior)

Ummm...

SKY

Honey, could you please turn the light off on your way out?

Sammy walks out of the office and gives the office one quick once-over and grabs the door and turned the light off. The camera stays focused on the picture situated on the edge of Sky's desk. It is the picture of Nick Baldwin, Sky's deceased husband and Aimee's father. But the picture is not an ordinary picture apparently. The photo inside the glass frame slowly moves like small waves of the ocean.

61 EXT. EAST SIDE APARTMENTS BRICK PILLAR - NIGHT

We can see Mary Ivy in her vehicle crying and wiping her tears away as she is obviously still distraught over what happened between Rosemary and Mary's husband, Robert Ivy. The camera pulls away to get a good look at the whole block as we are able to see Mary turn into the car ramp on East Side Street, where the apartment building is located.

CUT TO

62 EXT. IVY APARTMENT – CAR RAMP - NIGHT

Mary Ivy is seated inside her tan Contour as she fogged up the window with heavy breathing and her sobbing. She stares at the basketball hoop above the across the street in the park. It symbolizes her children and the fact that she can't escape telling them this news of the divorce. She turns the key in the ignition and takes off her seatbelt. Mary opens the car door and slams it shut. She stumbles a little bit as she looks over her shoulder, staring down inside the apartment building at the Silverman apartment. She thinks she saw Brenish in the lit window of the building. But before she can say for certain, she is greeted by her son, Bashimah. He steps out of the automatic doors of the building and walks over to the car ramp.

BASHIMAH

Mom? You okay?

MARY

(laughing, wiping away tears)

Yes? Why? What are you doing out here?

BASHIMAH

Were you crying?

MARY

(terribly lying)

No.

(beat)

(referring to Brenish)

Is your sister over at Martin's?

BASHIMAH

Yeah. She's talking to Bruce, 'cuz I guess Marty ran away.

MARY

(concerned, through tears)

He what? Why?

BASHIMAH

The divorce. God, he really took it bad, Ma. I can't believe Mr. Silverman divorced his wife. I'm glad you and Dad are still together. I couldn't go through everything Martin has gone through in the last couple of weeks. I mean, sure he had months to get adjusted to it, but having it now being finalized must really suck, you know?

MARY

(hugging Bashimah, walking inside)

I know. Believe me, I know...

63 INT. SILVERMAN APARTMENT - LIVING ROOM - SAME TIME

Bruce walks up to Brenish shaking with a drunken fear. She turns her face as she can even smell the beer on his breath and can hear his slurring of some words as he talks.

BRUCE

You know where my Martin is?

BRENISH

Yeah...I think I do...

BRUCE

Well, then let's go then!

He grabs his coat and car keys. He starts to stumble out the doorway. Brenish sighs heavily, as she can tell he is drunk.

BRENISH

One sec.

64 EXT. BALDWIN APARTMENT - NIGHT

Brenish wishes she had her license, but she knows since she doesn't, Bruce will have to drive. She decides to bring Aimee along with her. She runs across the hall and rings the doorbell.

65 INT. BALDWIN APARTMENT - SKY'S BEDROOM

As Aimee sets the diary between her legs, she continues searching for clues of her father's death. All of a sudden a picture of Martin Silverman falls down from the top of the heavily cramped closet. The picture means a lot to Aimee, as she brings it close to her heart.

AIMEE

(whispering)

God. Martin, I love you so much...

The doorbell rings, interrupting Aimee's silence.

AIMEE

(shouting out angrily)

Now what?

The doorbell rings once more. Aimee slips the book under her arm.

AIMEE

(yelling)

Be right there!

She goes into her room quickly and grabs a pair of pants and a shirt and slips them on. She runs down the flight of stairs to answer the door. Through the fogged glass window of the door, she can see it is her best friend, Brenish.

AIMEE

(opening the door)

What?

(beat)

Do you know what time of the night it is?

BRENISH

(teasing)

Nine! Why are you in bed?!

(beat)

Were you crying?

AIMEE

No. I’m just tired. That’s all.

BRENISH

(pointing at Bruce)

Well…

She looks past her friend and outside in the hallway is Bruce. He looks sluggish.

AIMEE

What's he doing here? What's going on?

BRENISH

Marty ran away.

AIMEE

What?

BRENISH

Mr. Silverman and I are going to find him. You coming?

AIMEE

(freaked)

Bren - look at him! He can't drive! He's drunk off his ass!

BRENISH

(calmly)

Don't worry 'bout it. Come on!

AIMEE

Alright, but if I get killed...

BRENISH

If you get killed, I'll see you in heaven...

(beat)

(looking at Aimee’s outfit)

or hell...

AIMEE

(smiling)

Such a good friend.

(beat)

I'll be right back.

66 INT. BRUCE'S CAR – CAR RAMP – MOMENTS LATER

Aimee gets in the back seat of Bruce's car as Brenish sits up front next to Martin's father. Aimee has the diary in her hands.

BRUCE

So where are we going, Ivy?

BRENISH

Um, St. Joseph's.

Aimee moves forward and puts Sky's diary on the seat, but when Bruce starts the vehicle it slides onto the floor, with one of Martin's T-shirts, falling right on top of it. Aimee is too involved in the conversation to notice this.

AIMEE

(leaning over front seat)

Oh, my, God. That's where he is?

BRENISH

(turning to Bruce)

It's where he always goes...

67 EXT. ST. JOESPH'S - FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER - NIGHT

Bruce's car drives up to the curb by the church. Aimee and Brenish step out of the vehicle from the right hand passenger side doors, with Bruce stepping out from the driver's seat. He is still drunk and fumbles to shut the door to his car as he stares up at the majestic church, listening to the entrancing hymns.

BRUCE

So why would my kid go here? He has never gone to church a day in his life...

AIMEE

Wouldn't be bragging 'bout that Mr. Silverman. My mom and I always go to church, every Sunday.

BRENISH

For comfort, Mr. Silverman. For comfort.

BRUCE

He gets plenty of comfort at home...

CUT TO

68 FLASHBACK OF BRUCE BENDING BACK MARTIN'S FINGER EARLIER

69 EXT. ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH

BRUCE

...until recently...

Aimee looks up from a sadness, as she looks into Bruce's face, trying to get an understanding as to his relationship with Marty.

70 INT. ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH - MOMENTS LATER

Bruce looks around at the pews with praying nuns and young and elderly men and women saying rosaries and speaking to God. As Brenish and Aimee looked around for Martin, sure that he was at the church, a confessional door opened up, revealing Marty.

MARTIN

(whispering)

Thank you, Father.

Aimee turns around to see her friend.

AIMEE

Martin?

MARTIN

Aimee? What are you doing here?

Bruce and Brenish also turn around from the altar and run up to the sophomore.

BRENISH

You are here!

MARTIN

How'd you find me?

BRENISH

I knew you'd be here...

AIMEE

She knew this was your secret place to go...

(beat)

...ever since the...

But she stops mid-sentence, realizing this wasn't lunch hour at school, and his dad was standing beside her. And that's also when Martin looked at his father for the first time.

BRUCE

I'm so sorry about this morning...

MARTIN

Why did you come here?

BRENISH

(just above a whisper)

Marty!?

MARTIN

What?! He has no reason to be in here. He's not even a holy person! Going against the bible and getting a divorce?

BRUCE

(just above a whisper)

Now you listen here!

Martin looks at his father. He can tell he has been drinking. He can smell the putrid smell of drunkenness on his father's breath.

BRUCE

You ran away! Now come home.

MARTIN

(defiantly)

No.

BRUCE

(threatening)

Don't mess with me, Kid.

MARTIN

(above a whisper)

My name is not "Kid." It's either Martin or Marty. Alright?

(beat)

And my God, Dad. How much liquor did you have?

BRUCE

That’s not your concern!

MARTIN

You’re my concern!

BRUCE

(shouting)

Come home.

Heads were turning from the pews as people were starting to take notice of the scene developing in back of the church.

BRUCE

(whispering)

Come home.

Aimee steps in and tries to grab Bruce's arm, to get him away from Martin.

AIMEE

(to Bruce)

Just leave him alone.

BRUCE

No.

Bruce and Martin stare each other down, with eyes that blame the other for the divorce and Martin's running away.

BRENISH

Marty, you gotta come home.

MARTIN

I'm not leaving this place until I am heard out.

BRUCE

Fine, you know what? Stay here. I don't care. Your mother is gone...you might as well be too.

(beat)

Rot in hell.

Bruce turns away from his son and is about to head out the door with Aimee and Brenish staring at the floor with disbelief. They can't believe Bruce could be that inconsiderate of another's feelings.

MARTIN

You don't mean that.

BRUCE

See ya.

BRENISH

(to Bruce)

You can't leave!

AIMEE

(pleading)

Mr. Silverman!

MARTIN

(to Bruce)

How did you even get here? You drove drunk? And you want me to come home with you? Can't you see how screwed up my life is because of you? You get a divorce, drink till ya puke and then you practically break my finger? I hate you!

BRUCE

(uncaring)

Ya comin' home, or not?

MARTIN

(insecure laugh)

No! No, I'm not going home. Not until you hear me out, Dad.

BRUCE

Listen here!

AIMEE

(to Bruce)

Just listen to him!

BRUCE

(to Martin)

No, you're my kid, and I will not tolerate you talking back to me!

MARTIN

You're my dad, and I will not tolerate you ruining everything in your life and mine!

(beat)

I'm coming home.

BRUCE

Fine. Good. Let's go.

MARTIN

Not with you. You're drunk.

(beat)

I'm going home with Brenish.

BRENISH

(pleasantly surprised, although covering her feelings)

What?

MARTIN

I called your mom a few minutes ago. She's gonna pick me up soon.

BRUCE

(referring to Brenish and himself)

You can't be serious. We reside on the same freakin' street.

MARTIN

(referring to Brenish's house)

Yeah, well, I like the other side of the street.

BRUCE

Fine. Whatever. I could care less about you.

MARTIN

Yeah, well it shows...

(beat)

I can see why Mom would have an affair.

Bruce leans forward to attack Martin. The two quarrel and fight to the floor of the church as the pastor emerges from the confessional. A violent wind storm breaks into the church, causing bibles to fly everywhere. Aimee and Brenish’s hair starts to fly over their faces.

PASTOR

(shouting)

Hey - hey - hey - hey! Stop it! Please! Stop. Please this is the Lord's house!

AIMEE

(yelling)

No! Mr. Silverman! No!!!

BRENISH

(yelling)

Marty! Stop! No!

71 INT. ROSEMARY'S SUPPER CLUB - DINING ROOM - NIGHT

Rosemary is sitting in a serious silence, staring at Robert, sitting on one of the barstools.

ROSEMARY

(referring to the kiss)

Come, Bob. It couldn't have been that bad.

ROBERT

Are you really that dense?

ROSEMARY

(offended)

Why --

ROBERT

My marriage could be over and all you can think about is that damn kiss!

ROSEMARY

Don't get mad at me. You had the chance to say no!

ROBERT

Don't do that. Don't even.

ROSEMARY

(resting her head in her hands)

What?

ROBERT

(referring to the kiss)

It meant nothing.

ROSEMARY

(looking up briefly)

Don't say it if you don't truly mean it.

ROBERT

(getting up from the barstool)

Rosemary...

ROSEMARY

(looking up once again)

Yes, Robert?

ROBERT

(grabbing his coat)

I'm giving my notice.

ROSEMARY

(letting her arms fall to the table)

What?! You can't be serious!

ROBERT

I'm very serious. I hope you can reason with Antonio and get him back. But me...I'm through. I'm going to concentrate on my wife and my family.

ROSEMARY

You don't have to quit...

(remembering the wish she made earlier that day)

You can’t!

ROBERT

We all have choices, as you so eloquently stated.

(beat)

I made mine. I just hope it's not too late for forgiveness.

ROSEMARY

(in tears)

But, I need you here!

(beat)

I can't run this place without you...

ROBERT

Then you shouldn't have been so dependent on me. I'm sorry, but even Ellen Curie herself is not this pathetic.

ROSEMARY

What about the faked pregnancy?

ROBERT

You don't know her. You don't know me. And I sure as hell don't know you anymore.

ROSEMARY

(in tears)

You know me!

ROBERT

(slapping her away)

I thought I did.

ROSEMARY

You do!!

ROBERT

You're no better than the rest of them.

ROSEMARY

What is that supposed to mean?

ROBERT

(staring at Rosemary's intense expression)

Why do you keep looking at me that way?

ROSEMARY

What way?

ROBERT

You're worse than that demented Rose!

ROSEMARY

Don't even compare me to that bitch!

ROBERT

Then don't act like one!

ROSEMARY

You make me sick!

ROBERT

I hate you!

ROSEMARY

I hate you too!!

And with that the two quickly embrace and kiss once more, as Robert has obviously forgotten about his wife and children.

72 EXT. LAWRENCEVILLE POLICE STATION - NIGHT

It is now after ten at night. Mary has given Aimee, Brenish and Martin a ride home. But Bruce must pay for what he has done.

73 INT. LAWRENCEVILLE POLICE STATION - CELL BLOCK

Male police officer, FRANCES CROLY is behind Bruce, leading him to his cell for the child abuse of Martin Silverman.

BRUCE

You can't do this to me! My son –

FRANCES

Mr. Silverman, child abuse is a crime. Besides, Mrs. Ivy took the children home with her.

BRUCE

Well, let me call my lawyer for Christ's sake! Do I at least get to do that much?

FRANCES

I have already informed you, that you will be allowed the call in the morning. Bail will be posted as well.

BRUCE

(pissed)

Listen! You can't do this! My child needs me!

FRANCES

(unlocking cell door)

Maybe next time, you'll learn that abuse gets you no where, Mr. Silverman.

Frances forcefully pushes Bruce into his cell, along with the other gritty, hairy and dirty criminals. Bruce takes one look at them, and then turns back to Frances, who is already walking away after locking the cell door back up. Bruce grabs a hold of the cell bars. Some of the men Bruce is locked up with look him over.

CELLMATE

(lovingly)

Hellllooooo...

OTHER CELLMATE

Whatta we got here?

Bruce doesn't even bother looking back. Instead he slams his fists on the cell bars, once again.

BRUCE

(screaming)

Croly! Croly!! You can't leave me here! I don't belong here!!

We see him in slow motion as he pounds on the bars once more.

74 EXT. ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH - NIGHT

Still parked next to the church is Bruce Silverman's car. Only the moonlight is shining on its shiny surface.

75 INT. BRUCE'S CAR - BACKSEAT FLOOR

On the floor of Bruce Silverman's car is Sky's diary, Aimee has accidentally forgotten about. We can only see a corner of it, as one of Martin's T-shirts is still covering it. The camera lingers on it for a few seconds, as it is obviously filled with important information of Sky's yet-to-be revealed past.

76 EXT. BALDWIN APARTMENT - NIGHT

All the lights are off at Sky's house since Aimee is home alone for the moment and is fast asleep.

77 INT. BALDWIN APARTMENT - AIMEE'S ROOM

Aimee is asleep and is having a nightmare as her face is twitching and she is moaning in fear.

78 (cont.)

The dream starts out at a balcony. A young man and a woman are heard crying out. Aimee can't see the faces in her dreams, just the legs of the man and the woman. What they are yelling about is being covered up by the sounds of a baby crying. However, Aimee doesn't know where the baby's cries are coming from. The couple doesn't take notice of the cries and continue to argue. The man heads down the steps, but the woman puts her hand on his shoulders. He starts to walk back up the steps and slaps the woman. She cries out and grabs a flowerpot and hits the man over the head, as he tumbles over the balcony railing. He is laying on the floor now and does not move. The man is dead.

79 (cont.)

Aimee wakes up in a cold sweat and trembles with fear.

AIMEE

(screaming, grabbing a nearby cross)

MOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!

(beat)

(breathing heavily)

It’s not real. It’s not real. It’s just a dream…It’s just a dream…it’s just a dream…isn’t it?

The camera slowly moves across the dark room. A streetlight is shining in a corner of the room, and shines on the Ouji Board. The board’s marker however, is placed on the word NO.

80 EXT. BALDWIN APARTMENT

The camera slowly moves further and further from the house, revealing the apartment as a whole and it continues to creep further and further.
