I was on an HBO trip, meaning I watched HBO everyday.
Now HBO doesn't advertise movies, rather it promotes movies only if they
were allowed back stage or they made it. It wasn't until I went back
to watching MTV that I first saw the advertisement for The Blair Witch
Project.
Now this wasn't the first I had heard of this, more
it was the first time I saw bits of it and got an idea of it. I had
heard on a local radio station the two disc-jockeys (Mark and Vicki of
Z104.1 fame) say that this movie was pretty good. They stayed
true to adding the suspence by not giving away any information on the film,
but rather told about it that is was very good.
Me being a skeptic of good films (e.g. Titanic),
I wanted to experience this movie first hand. On August 7th on a
Saturday night, at the 9:30 showing, I witnessed the best movie
in the horror genre. Some may disagree, but how this film was made
was truely an art. I enjoy movies that film from a first person perspective.
First person meaning we view it from a person's eyes. We see what
they see when they see it. Most horror movies view movies from a
third person perspective meaning we see them, know what they're thinking
and (in Hollywood's case) know what's going to happen next. I also
enjoyed how the movie was made to look like an amateur video, and the total
lack of any 'movie magic' sounds/sound effects. This film was 100%
convincing.
Now, don't tally me down for being morbid.
I believe Christopher Lambert best put it in the movie Resurrection:
I don't marvel the action, I admire the intellect.
But once I think about that, it was refering to a serial killer.
I guess I admire the whole fact that it was real, it was ashtonishing,
it was so damn tensifying that I admit, I walked out of the theater a little
shaken.
But I don't want you to picture me shaking from
head to toe, that isn't exactly what I was doing. To try to help
you simulate how my body was, simply do this: clench both hands as tight
as you possibly can, hold them in that clenched possition for 10-20 seconds,
when you release them, that's how my body felt after watching this film.
This movie may or may not scare you, it may or may
not make you jump at certain spots, it may or may not even scare you on
your walk back home. But I can garentee this: You will tense up while
watching this film. I tried to be relaxed as I had heard that this
film will make you tense up. I even tried to laugh to myself, passing
this movie off as a joke. Both these methods failed as I was still
tense when it was done.
Now, did this movie make a believer of the supernatural?
No, I will never believe in the supernatural. The only way I will
is if it kills me. Then, and only then, will I believe it.
There are times I fear the shadows, even times when I sit in my room and
think about what's outside my door. But I have always had a touch
of paranoia when the night falls as the dark is known to bring out fear
because it makes everything more distant to us. And when I watch
films/movies with a horror theme to it, the feeling intensifys. This
movie cranked it up further then it has ever been in my entire life.
So how do I rate this film? On my scale of
5 stars, I unquestionally give it (*****) and I even award it with a half
a star for finally meeting my needs for a true horror film. Thus
making it the best film I have seen since Back to the Future,
which has held a #1 possition on my list since 1987. And to everyone
that is reading this: see The Blair Witch Project today... or better yet...
tonight. I also suggest bringing a friend or two to talk to it about
in the end with.
Already seen the film? Go see it again and
this time bring someone/someone different. I for one want to go back
a second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth time; out doing my 5 time viewing
of Disney's: The Lion King. I want to really dig into this film,
pry it open and enjoy it. I want to become a part of it, I want to
see if I always tense up as the film approches that shuttering end.
I want to see if I spot new things. I want to see if I understand
it more after knowing how it ends/progresses. Listen to the beginning
and compare the whole concept.
As you can as well see, I never told you a thing
about the actual movie other then how it made me feel. I did this
on purpose as in my own opinion you have to view the movie with no knowlage
of it to fully experience the terror it portrays. There are websites
that dig into the movie already, but I don't suggest going to them until
you go see the movie as viewing them will destroy some of the intensity
the movie tries to build.

I still couldn't relax while watching this movie.
I knew what was happening and what was going to happen next, but I just
couldn't take that step back that we all do when we watch these kind of
movies. You know that step where we say 'This movie can't be doing
this.' But it was and did, and I still tensed up.
You might notice that I wrote this some time after
watching the movie. This is because I was sidetracked by talking
to some friends who were up at night and I also had to call M@b, who was
back from here expedition North. Well, the chat with the friends
I think lead me to choosing my next group of buds I'm taking to this movie
tomarrow. I just need to pry my cousin and her boyfriend apart from
each other so they watch this movie and get freaked out.
M@b on the other hand didn't even want to talk about
the movie as she wants to see it and doesn't want to know 'anything about
it.' It took me a while (and a few lines of 'I'm not listening, blah
blah blah...' ) to figure that 'anything' meant everything that I went
through before, during, and after the movie, including this page.
My friend who I took with me this time was like
'This movie better be good.' Upon which I would say 'This movie is
so freaking good, you'll walk away impressed.' He then threatened
me (in a way) that 'this movie better be all that I'm making it out to
be.'
1 hour and 22 minutes later, we walked out of that
theater and he was all 'That movie was so cool! If that comes out
on video, I'm going to buy it and watch it at my house with the lights
off, the windows covered and sitting in an uncomfortable chair.'
Well, the chair part I added, but it sounded pretty good. On the
drive home (which is 30 minutes long), he wanted to go in depth with that
film. He wanted to go over every detail so he wouldn't forget anything.
Of course he knew I had seen it twice now, so he relied on me recalling
observations from both nights.
Now, this friend knows when a movie is bad.
He watched Armeggedon and just reviewed the Hell out of it.
And the end result was very negative. He had heard about this film
and, as I said, wasn't very sure that the film could live up to it's raves/reviews.
But upon walking out of that place, he was a believer. Once again,
I express that you should go see this film a.s.a.p., for if it can make
a skeptic like it, you may very well enjoy it, too.

Well, this movie has gotten a charm with me.
People are staring to wonder if I'm okay. I went into chat and talked
to some friends about going to see this film. Now get this: all of
them had different responces that were against the film! #1) I never
judge a movie by what people make it out to be, I see it for myself.
#2) After viewing this film, I found that low budget films can be great
blockbusters. #3) JUST GO SEE THE DAMN MOVIE!! STOP THINKING
THAT MORE IS BETTER!! JUDGE IT FOR YOURSELF, DAMMIT!!
All three of them said 'I'm going to see 'The
Haunting' ('The Sixth Sense'), because it looks better.
When I watched the previews for The Blair Witch Project, I didn't know
what to think of it (in all honesty I thought it was a preview for the
anticipated Resident Evil Movie). I hear people talk about it.
I never really gave that much thought towards it, in fact I had some doubts.
I never really looked into it (reviews, websites,
etc.), but I did listen to morning disc-jockeys talk about the film while
delivering papers, but I was out of the car when they called it by it's
title. I sat there listening to them tell how scary this film was.
And even when I did hear the title, I just said, 'oh that, I have to see
it for myself before I will agree.'
Tonight's viewing was a hassel. I couldn't
get anyone to go see it with me. Most had some stupid sport practice,
one was grounded, the other was taking apart a car, another I couldn't
find, and the last one I called and the operator told me the number was
no longer in service. In the end I went alone, which was okay for
me. But I don't stay awake as well as I do with company, so the film
kinda flew by me. I've lost so much sleep from this movie that I
just waited for that last scene to come on, (my favorite scene!)
Also the night in the woods (not going to tell which night).
I digress tonight, I'm forgetting my little review.
I spot things each time: new dialogue, things in the backround, and some
things that go unnoticed. It's hard to talk about my favorite movie
concidering I don't want to give any plot spoilers away. Basically
I told all I could the first night, a little on the second. All I
really have to add is that, even after the third viewing, I still like
it!
When is there going to be a website that will have
The Blair Witch Project sounds? I'm trying to make a few of my own
with the trailer sequences off the tv. Right now I'm having trouble
with my sound system, so it will take a while. I want to replace
my Resident Evil 2 sound that plays when I enter Windows with a Blair Witch
Project sounds. I already downloaded some icons off of one site,
which can be found in the Webring I added today.
To conclude, I plan on going viewing this film again,
maybe tomarrow. But I really need to make up for my lost sleep.
Parents are killing me for staying up all night, then sleeping all day.
Plus, I need to find someone to take too. Damn, anyone in the Southern
Wisconsin area (around Monroe) want to go see this movie with me? Email
me if you're serious.
I will now end this page with links to the film's main sites. And please remember: It's only a movie, isn't it...?
