The band members were treated for shock, cuts and bruises at a local hospital. An Indianapolis concert was canceled and will be rescheduled. A further examination of Noel Gallagher following the accident established his injuries are more chronic than originally thought. Doctors at the Indiana University School of Medicine said he is suffering from the effects of whiplash and shock. Gallagher is being treated with painkilling drugs and complete rest for three days. Accordingly, the next two scheduled shows of Oasis' U.S. tour, at Philadelphia's Tower Theater Friday and Boston's Fleet Pavilion Saturday have been postponed. A decision on rescheduling will be made early next week. The band intends to resume the tour at Roseland in New York City Sunday Aug. 11. BOWIE UNDER ALL FLAGS EMI will release David Bowie's greatest hits album, "Best of Bowie" on Oct. 22 in 16 different versions. The 16 versions of the career-spanning greatest-hits set will be created for different markets. In the United States, "Best of Bowie" will be available in a 20-track single-disc version and a 40-song double-disc set, both ordered chronologically. Worldwide, 16 different countries will get unique versions, with track listings tailored to reflect Bowie's most popular work in the various countries. The flag of each nation will appear on the spine of its custom disc. A "Best of Bowie" DVD, with music videos and other footage, will follow Nov. 5. SPRINGSTEEN CALLS FOR FESTIVAL SEATING The horrors of the 1979 Who concert in Cincinnati's Riverfront Coliseum, where 11 fans were trampled to death in a mad rush for general admission "festival seating," were revived this week when Bruce Springsteen requested that Cincinnati's ban against festival seating be lifted for his Nov. 12 concert. Cincinnati officials banned festival seating and adopted new crowd control measures after the Who incident but managers of the venue, now known as the U.S. Bank Arena, were eager to comply with Springsteen's request to compete with other arenas that allow general admission floor seating. Cincinnati police approved the variance because Springsteen, according to police spokeman Lt. Kurt Byrd, "draws a generally well-behaved crowd." Paul Wertheimer, the consultant who recommended safety improvements after studying the 1979 tragedy, opposes lifting the festival-seating ban at the arena. "People all the time forget the lessons of the past," Wertheimer said. "Whether or not they can do this well, it shouldn't be done -- for safety's sake -- and because it will set a precedent." DISC TO HELP MUSIC EDUCATION The Heineken Music Initiative, dedicated to supporting music education in urban communities across the country, is set to release the second volume of its "Red Star Sounds" series Oct. 1. Produced and distributed in partnership with Def Jam Records, the compact disc includes tracks from some of today's biggest artists, including hip-hop diva Foxy Brown and her new single "Stylin" -- as well as music from unsignedup-and-coming talent Lovher, DTP featuring Shana, Ultramaximus, and Teddy Cain Jr. The new CD also features hot tracks from Musiq, Lovher, Nore, Method Man, Loon, Baby (Cash Money Millionaires), Redman and Method Man. Mega-star Ja Rule also laid down a track for the album. Like the first volume in the series, which included contributions from Erykah Badu, Macy Gray, The Roots and India.Arie, "Red Star Sounds, Volume 2: B Sides" is designed to raise funds to support urban music-related charitable organizations. "Following the success of the first 'Red Star Sounds' record, fans know they can expect great music from The Heineken Music Initiative series," said Scott Hunter-Smith, president of the Heineken Music Initiative. "Our partnership with Def Jam Records brings us some of the most popular talent in music and helps us make a meaningful contribution to the enhancement of music programs in our nation's cities." "Red Star Sounds, Volume 1" was instrumental in launching the career of then unknown R&B artist Glenn Lewis and his song "Don't You Forget It." POP GOSPEL STARS TOP SEPT. 11 CONCERT Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Enrique Iglesias, Alan Jackson, Gloria Estefan, Josh Groban, Renee Fleming, Placido Domingo, and the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by music director Leonard Slatkin head the lineup for the Concert For America, which will be broadcast Sept. 11 by NBC as part of the network's coverage of the one-year anniversary of terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The event, chaired by first lady Laura Bush and hosted by Tom Brokaw, will be taped Sept. 9 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. "In addition to honoring the victims and heroes of Sept. 11, the special will also use words and music to reflect on the year that has followed since the terrorist attacks, and the spirit of unity that has emerged across the country," an NBC official statement said. "Featuring the voices of everyday people, as well as famous figures past and present, the special will remember lives lost, and celebrate the resiliency of the American spirit." LIFE IN THE FAST LANE Joe Walsh has joined the gang of musicians featured in the NASCAR/United Parcel Service "Big Brown Truck" TV ads. In Walsh's piece, based on his signature 1978 hit "Life's Been Good," the idea is to convince NASCAR driver Dale Jarrett to trade in his racecar for a UPS truck. The ad debuts Saturday, Aug. 24, during the Sharpie 500 on the TNT cable network. Previous ads in the campaign have featured Charlie Daniels adapting "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and Geroge Thorogood recasting "Bad To The Bone." INDIGO GIRLS BACK ON ROAD The Indigo Girls, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers will embark on a new leg of the "Become You" tour on Sept. 13 in Baltimore and roll through an Oct. 3 show in Ann Arbor, Mich. CEPHAS AND WIGGINS WHOOP AGAIN Bowling Green John Cephas and Harmonica Phil Wiggins, the foremost practitioners of the Piedmont sound in the blues, are set to release a new CD Sept. 17, "Somebody Told the Truth," on Alligator Records. Cephas is the guitarist/vocalist, Wiggins the whoopin' harmonica player in the Washington, D.C.-born lineup. BLACKSABBATH BACK AGAIN Black Sabbath will issue the only live album recorded by the classic lineup, "Past Lives," on Sanctuary records. The two-compact disc album, set for an Aug. 20 release, features the "original" Sabbath -- vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bass guitarist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. The British quartet never issued a live album in America during its peak years with the original lineup. The first disc was released in England in 1980 as "Live at Last," but the band was unhappy with the sound quality and did not authorize it. The new version has been remastered to the band's satisfaction and a second disc of previously unissued tracks is included. Disc one includes "Tomorrow's Dream," "Sweet Leaf," "Killing Yourself to Live," "Cornucopia," "Snowblind," "Children of the Grave," "War Pigs," "Wicked World" and "Paranoid." Disc two features "Hand of Doom," "Hole in the Sky," "Symptom of the Universe," "Megalomania," "Iron Man," "Black Sabbath," "N.I.B.," "Behindthe Wall of Sleep" and "Fairies Wear Boots." CAJUN KIDS ON THE RISE The newest stars of Cajun music are Feufollet, an outstanding band of Louisiana teenagers raised on the traditional music of the Acadian culture who mix those ancestral sounds with an electric beat. The band, all aged 16 to 18, was nominated for a fistful of CSMA awards, the Cajun Grammy. "Belle Louisiane," their second album, was nominated for Album of the Year, and the title track, written by Cajun legend Zachary Richard, Song of the Year. The group itself was nominated for Band of the Year and two of its singers for Vocalist of the Year. "I met Feufollet several years ago," Richard says, "and remember thinking at the time that, via their commitment and enthusiasm, the culture would survive for at least another generation." Lawyers didn't question his assertion that he couldn't be an impartial juror and sent him home. VINTAGE SIMON & GARFUNKEL LIVE Simon & Garfunkel never released a live album when they were recording together, but fans of the group know about a state of the art recording from a 1967 Philharmonic Hall concert. The recording will finally be released next month on Columbia/Legacy. "Live From New York City 1967" documents a show from Jan. 22, 1967, at Philharmonic Hall in New York City's Lincoln Center.
