She later has to chop up Nerys inside-turned-out body up in order to keep her new power from returning to a dormant state.
The Queen tried to drown Meredith when she was six because her father, Essus, declared to the queen that Merry would make a better Queen then Cel would make a king.
When Essus had been murdered and his body hacked into pieces, a reporter named Jenkins had sold the pictures of his butchered body as well as a picture he snapped of her at the funeral with her eyes glowing anger. She was 18 at the time and got him back by making him "see" his worst nightmares come to life, even though using magic against the media was strictly forbidden by the Queen.
Merry's one-time consort for seven years while she was at court was a sidhe by the name of Griffin. When she doesn't accept him back as one of her lovers, and a spy for the queen, he sells pictures of them from when they were together to the tabloids. Nude pictures.
Merry has a carved wooden box full of collected childhood memories which include: colored bird feathers, rocks that sparkled in the sun, the tiny plastic ballerinas that were on her 6th birthday cake, a dried bit of lavender, a toy cat with fake jewel eyes, and 2 silver stars of her father's that he earned in WWII as a spy.
