The rain began to die down and the temperature had started to rise. I
had cried until there was nothing left. Wiping my eyes on the sleeves
of my robe. I glanced around to realize the dreamscape begun to shift
and change. The woods that surrounded me had started to shift into
huge buildings, while the ground beneath me became a street. I
glanced around to find myself in the middle of a deserted street.
There was nothing here, no people, and no buildings, just streets
going here and there. The ground started to shake and it begun to
split open from an earthquake that rumbled threw the dreamscape. I
saw ancient Roman buildings form out of the ground to stand tall
above me. The differences between these and the real one's of Rome,
were that they were twisted in a hideous way and they seemed alive.
You could feel them watching you, while whispering to each other, and
at one point I thought one of them moved. I heard the sound of
hooves, and chariots racing from behind me. I turned around to see an
evil version of the coliseum and walked toward it. Once inside I
found that it was empty, there was no one there. But the sounds of
the horses and chariots still ranged throughout the air. I left the
coliseum and walked down the street. It began to rain, but there was
no sound coming from it. My body turned quickly down a street going
to the right. My feet had a mind of they're own and started racing
down a soulless avenue. They stopped fast in front of a building that
looked like a museum. My feet began to move swiftly up the stairs and
into the gallery. Once inside voices started going off in my head,
sending me to my knees.
The constant chatter was too much to bear, so I closed my eyes trying
to separate the sounds of each individual. As soon as the voices
were straight, they seemed to disappear from my head. My vision
seemed to clear and I glanced around to find the place empty. Through
the silence of the gallery came the sounds of heavy footsteps.
Standing slowly, I began to move toward the sound from the main lobby
into a studio of art. Around me paintings began to come alive as I
passed. Sounds of people whispering came to me from afar, taking my
feet toward them into another room. I came into the room and stopped
in my tracks, there were no people in here just statues. They were of
old and classic Roman type statues. Versions of David stood about,
while ladies with no arms stood proud on their pedestals. I stood
around gazing at the statues having the feeling that they were
watching me and hearing voices coming from out of nowhere. This was
so getting freaky. I could hear voices, but there was no one here
that looked alive. I slowly moved backwards keeping my eye's on the
works of art before me. Making sure I didn't miss anything, in case
they began to move.
I ran into something hard, not realizing what it was until I heard
someone say, "Why don't you watch where you're going"
I turned to find a headless statue standing there and my mouth
dropped. I grabbed my head for a headache was starting to form. The
voice almost sounded like it came from that statue, but there was no
head let alone a mouth to be speaking to me. This so couldn't get
any weirder than it already was. "Do I know you?" It asked.
I shook my head and answered, "No, I don't think so."
"Are you sure I don't know you? You look familiar to me," he asked.
"I'm sure you don't know me," I responded, while feeling a little
funny.
The voice came again, while the other voices were down to a
whisper, "If I do not know you, then why are you here. This is a
private party."
I looked around him at the other statues. The chattering in my head
had stopped, except the one.
"Um I'm not sure. I'm just as confused as you are," I said.
"Well if you're not sure, then maybe I can help you find your way,"
it said mockingly.
I pulled on my hair and just stared at the figure and commanded, "How
is it that you can talk, when you have no head."
The figure chuckled and answered, "I'm speaking to you inside your
head. We all can hear your thoughts and can answer them."
I glanced around at all the statues and replied, "You're telling me
that you are all can speak to me in my head, without being able to
speak out loud."
"Of course. Now why don't you sit down and tell me what brings you
here," It said.
I sat down and tried to figure out what it was that brought me here.
Trying to remember what it was that I was supposed to do. My head was
beginning to rip in pain and I started rocking back and forth. As
soon as it started it eased up to become an ache, then disappeared
all together. "Does that feel better my lady?" The voice came again.
I glanced back at the motionless statue and said, "Yes it does and
thank you. I think."
I could almost feel it smile, before it stated, "I'm glad you feel
better, now tell me what brings you here."
I'm not sure. I'm supposed to be somewhere, but I don't remember
where," I said.
"It's ok. It will come to you, eventually," It said, trying to sound
sympathetic.
I sat there on the floor thinking of what it was that I was supposed
to be doing, when I heard a few shocked voices from behind me. They
were female voices that I heard say, "Look at that. She's growing
wings and getting older. That is so bazaar."
I lifted my eyebrows and glared at the statues. "What are they
talking about?" I asked.
The statue seemed to smile and said, "Go look, see for yourself.
There's a mirror over there by the opposite door."
I ran over to the mirror and looked in and nearly freaked. There were
wings coming out of my back and my complexion was that of an elderly
lady. My robes changed to a light blue and a pointed hat with a veil
appeared out of nowhere. I clenched my right fist and felt something
in my hand. Bringing up my right hand, I found a wand with a star on
the end of it. I cursed under my breath and stomped my foot. The male
voice asked, "Is there something wrong?"
I turned, glared at the piece of marble and yelled, "Something wrong,
something wrong. Look at me; I've become an old lady. My robes are
light blue, not one of my best colors and I'm wearing a pointed hat
with a veil. What do you think?" I stomped over and whacked the stone
creature on the chest with my wand.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. What happened to you anyway?"
He said.
I began to pace, while shaking my head and said, "I'm turning into a
fairy godmother is what's happened." Then I stopped in my tracks and
smacked myself in the head. "OH SHIT," I blurted out, and then turned
toward the headless statue. "How do I get back to the painting
section of the museum?" I asked.
He smiled and said, "Why back the way you came of course, but what's
the hurry. You have all day to see them."
Glaring at the statue then running for the door, I yelled over my
shoulder, "I do not have all day. I must find them at once or so many
lives will be at stake."
"What do you mean? Everyone here is basically dead, there's no one
to save," It said trying not to laugh at me.
I glared at the stupid piece of marble and replied, "That's what you
want me to believe, but I'm not that stupid. I'm leaving now and
going back to look for the fairy tale paintings."
I heard it laugh before replying, "If that's what you want to do,
instead of talking to me. Then go ahead, my feelings won't be hurt.
It's not like I don't have other female friends to flirt with."
I made a disgusted face and then ran like hell. On the way out I
heard him say, "Hello ladies. Is there room for one more?" Then with
that you heard endless female giggles.
As I ran further down the hall, you could hear the chatter started up
again and it was causing me to lose my concentration. Throwing up my
shields to block the noise, I finally found my way back into the
paintings room and began to look for the fairy tales. I should have
known Cimiries would try to distract me somehow. Running along the
hall glancing at each picture making sure I was on the right track.
Going through another door, the floor fell from underneath me.
Paintings began to fly past me in a whirlwind of color. Soon my feet
hit a floor and I looked around to find a long hallway with more
artwork. Walking slowly, checking every tile making sure there
weren't any more falling floors, I glanced at the first painting on
my left and stopped in my tracks. It was the painting of Little Red
Riding Hood. This piece was different from the others it was
shimmering. The piece almost looked like a door to another place. I
reached out and touched the head of the wolf and my hand went through
to the other side. Taking my wand, I touched the painting and it
began to grow larger. It became a full-length painting, almost like a
mirror. I prayed a little prayer and went through the artwork.
I came out into a small kitchen, with howling sounds coming from
another room. I slowly began making my way toward the sound. It was
coming from the bedroom down the hall from the kitchen and sitting
room. I glanced through the slit of the door and found a werewolf in
there destroying the furniture. Pulling back as he began to sniff the
air, I found myself staring out at me from a small mirror on the
wall. I was still old, but had slimmed down some. I was wearing a
nightcap and small gold framed glasses. I glanced down at my body to
find myself in a nightgown. Hearing a low growl behind me, I swiftly
turned to see the werewolf standing in the doorway. The creature had
the same eyes, fur color, and height as Richard's beast. I slowly
reached for him and he growled in warning and bared his teeth. His
anger stopped me in my tracks and I just stared at him. He had no
idea who he was and I had no idea how to fix him. I had no time to
react before he came at me. His paw grabbed me by my throat and
lifted me off the ground. While trying to breath I kicked at him with
my foot, which only angered him more and he threw me across the hall
into the far wall.
He began to make his way toward me. I scrambled to my feet and
started talking, "Richard it's me Crystal. Don't you remember me?" He
growled deep in his throat and continued advancing on me. I felt
around for something to distract him with and found something inside
my gown. I reached in and pulled the object out of the material.
Pulling it up in front of my eyes, I realized it was the wand with
the star on the end. He came at me fast and I threw the wand out
towards him. Sparks flared from it and hit Richard's beast in the
chest. He went flying back towards the other end of the hall and when
he went down his head slammed against a dresser that appeared out of
nowhere. His beast form was convulsing and shifting, soon his beast
was gone and his human form lay naked on the floor. I ran around the
cottage trying to find clothes for him, finally finding some men's
clothes in the small basement. He began to wake, just as I finished
dressing him. He looked over at me and said with curious eyes, "Who
are you?"
"It's a long story Richard. Don't have much time to go through it
all," I stated as I helped him sit up.
Richard looked around confused and asked, "Where am I. This isn't
Kash's wedding."
"Yeah I know it's a dreamscape of Little Red Riding Hood." I answered.
He glared at me and commented, "What do you mean by a dreamscape and
you still haven't told me who you are?"
I rubbed my temples before glancing up at him. "Richard I don't have
time to explain now. Right now Luna is coming up the walk thinking
she's Little Red Riding Hood. You have to break the spell and kiss
her.
Richard glared at me and snorted. "I don't think so. I'm not kissing
the crazy cat, what do I look like chopped liver?"
I stepped forward and glanced up at him. "If you don't, you'll never
get out of here. Only way to get out of the fairy tale is to kiss
Luna. As soon as you do, she gets her memories back and we pop out of
this nightmare. So it's your choice. Don't kiss her stay here for
eternity. Kiss her and you'll get to leave," I commented.
Richard stood there for a few minutes, then glared at me not knowing
who I was and spatted, "Fine, I'll kiss that cat but that doesn't
mean I have to like it.
"Good. I'm glad you made your choice. She should be knocking soon," I
said.
Just then someone knocked on the door and I motioned for Richard to
get into the bed. I went about making him look like a grandma, just
to keep with the dream. Soon Luna or should I say little red came
through the door wearing a cape and holding a basket. I hid behind
the closet door, waiting for things to take their course. Luna moves
toward the bed and stares at Richard's form. "Why grandmother? What
big eyes you have?" She said.
Richard replied in a granny voice, "The better to see you with, my
dear."
She went closer to the bed and said, "What big ears you have
grandmother?"
Richard answered, "The better to hear you with, my dear."
Luna was face to face with him now and said, "What big teeth you have
grandmother?
"The better to kiss you with my dear," said Richard as he jumped from
the covers and kissed Luna hard on the lips. I watched as Luna feel
into it and the next thing I knew all three of us had been thrown
through the painting to land hard on the gallery floor. Luna had
landed on top of Richard and when she realized who he was, she
slapped him and cussed him two ways from Sunday. I shook my head and
started walking on toward the next fairy tale. Before I got two feet,
I felt someone grab my skirts and turned swiftly to find Luna staring
at me.
"What the hell's going on Crystal and what happened to you?" She
asked.
I stopped and let out a breath then turned, filling both Luna and
Richard in on what had happened. Telling them about the web of dreams
over the lupanar and what happened when I fell off the broomstick
trying to reverse it. I also told them about my visit with Cimiries
and about the fairy tale dreams and why I looked the way I did. I
told them to stay here or come with me, it was there choice, but I
had to continue on down the path of a nightmare in fairy tale land. I
had to save them all before dawn. Boy was it going to be a long night.
