"Not every horseman will find a perfect horse in their life,
the horse that makes everything worth it,
the horse that has a profound effect on their life.
I consider myself a lucky one,
for I have found mine and will be forever grateful for him"
--Mary del Olmo

Joey's Bio

Joey was born at Bayhead Oaks Stable in Dade City, Florida.  His first owner was Richard Howey who owned him off and on until he was fourteen.  He was originally a driving horse for Richard (who also started to train him to be a gaited horse) and his two other owners in Florida. When Joey was going on 14, he was purchased by Linda Webber of Hawkewood Stables in Florida (who was located at the time in New Hampshire) for Marianne Town & her family to use as an at home pleasure and trail horse. The Town family owned Joey for little over a year before I purchased him from them and turned him into the show horse he is today.

Joey has since been to shows in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Missouri. Some of his accomplishments include being the first Saddlebred (and so far the only) to win the New England Horseman's Council Jr. Stock Seat Equitation Medal Championship, carrying the American Flag in five flag presentations at horse shows and the opening act of the 2004 Pfizer Fantasia Musical Celebration of the Horse at Equine Affaire in Springfield, MA, and having gone all the way from Maine to Missouri to compete in the World Championships for hunter and western Saddlebreds (were Joey won his World Champion title). Joey has a mixed training background consisting of saddle seat (pleasure & limited 5-gaited), jumping (stadium), limited dressage (training & 1st level), western & hunter (pleasure & equitation), trail (showing & outdoors), natural horsemanship (Parelli Savvy & Monty Roberts "Join Up"), driving (pleasure), and limited trick training (bowing, smiling, standing on boxes, walking up stairs, giving hugs & kisses).  Joe also knows a number of voice commands (besides walk, trot, canter, and back) such as no, close eye, pick up, stay, and he knows five verbal commands to halt (they include stand, stop, whoa, ho, & halt).  He can also be ridden bridleless because he is so well trained to leg and voice commands.

Joey is a wonderful all around horse with an amazing, kind, and loving personality.  He loves being in the spot light and gives his best every time out.  Spending as much time as I have with this amazingly intelligent horse I have learned how wise he really is, Joey is a quick learner who is willing to please his rider (even if he's convinced that the tarp is going to eat him alive & the cow is an alien life form).  I can't have imagined ever owning such a wonderful horse.  He is truly one of a kind and deserves all the spoiling he gets.

NEWS FLASH:
Joey has moved to DeLovely Farm in Rockport, IN where he is used as a school horse. Jessie still rides him bareback and spoils him rotten when the kids aren't already doing it.

"At its finest, rider and horse are joined not by tack, but by trust.
Each is totally reliant upon the other.
Each is the selfless guardian of the other's very well-being."
