SYNOPSIS (TAKEN FROM PRESSBOOK).

A gang of eight teenagers arrive on the outskirts of a small town, looking for some excitement after having smashed up their cars at a road blocked by a landslide.
Drinking beer and having a wild time, the band consists of Fred (BEAU BRIDGES), the leader, a tough, good-looking boy; Merrie(JOY HARMON), his pretty girlfriend; Pete (TIM ROONEY), a shrewed Joker; Elsa (Gail Gilmore), Pete's girl; Rick (ROBERT RANDOM), a guy who's always ready for trouble; Jean (TISHA STERLING), an exteremely attractive blonde; Harry (KEVIN O'NEAL), cheerful and happy-go-lucky; and Georgette (VICKI LONDON), Harry's girlfriend.
Among the teenagers who live in the town itself, are Nancy Barry (CHARLA DOHERTY), a pretty seventeen-year-old, and her bright and good-natured steady boyfriend, Mike Carson (TOMMY KIRK). Nancy's brother (RONNY HOWARD) is a chemistry wizard they all call "Genius," who is forever puttering around with chemicals in his cellar laboratory. On this particular day, Genius accidently discovers a strange and powerful formula, creating a reddish, plastic-like material.
Genius calls the stuff "Goo," which has an amazing power to make things grow. Accidentally, the family dog, cat and pet ducks swallow some of it and suddenly assume gigantic proportions, growing up to six times their normal size. Nancy and Mike are stunned, and immediately realize the great commercial possiblities for "Goo."
Later that night, Mike and Nancy attend a local dance, where they are joined by their friends Horsey (JOHNNY CRAWFORD) and his girl, Red (TONI BASIL). At the same time, the gang of eight strangers show up at the dance. Quite by accident, the wayfaring teenagers see the oversized ducks wandering around; they learn about the "Goo," and decide to steal it and use it for themselves.
Following the theft, Fred and the gang break into an abandoned theatre, where they eat the "Goo." The results are fantastic. The eight kids start growing and growing and growing, until suddenly they find themselves over twenty feet tall. After playing pranks with their new size, they, too, realize the power and potential of "Goo," and plan to get the formula for it from Genius.
The rioting teenagers then turn vicious and defy the town's Sheriff, who tries to control them. They hold his child hostage, demand rules and regulations for all adults in the town, and literally terrorize the community. Mike tries to fight with the gigantic Fred, but it's a hopeless, one-sided battle.
The other kids in town rally their forces to fight the giants, but to no avail. At last, Genius, who has been experimenting all the while, comes to the rescue. He has found the antidote to "Goo": it is a unique smoke hat, when inhaled by a "Goo" giant, causes him to shrink back to normal size.
Genius waves the smoke around the battlefile dof teenaers, and within minutesvthe former giants are reduced to their normal size. They flee from the town, and Mike and Nancy happily rejoice that life will once again return to normal.
