Jhonen Vasquez

Six years ago, Jhonen Vasquez learned that hidden within a local comic book shop lurked a local comic book publisher. Vasquez brought in some of his work to show then retailer/Slave Labor Graphics publisher Dan Vado. Vado immediately liked Vasquezs' dark, yet insainly funny work. Johnny the Homicidal Maniac debuted in 1995 and quickly became one of Slave Labor's best selling titles, reprinted multiple times and eventually collected into a deluxe hardbound book. Vasquez, a California native born September 1, 1974 followed Johnny with another hit series, Squee! Squee! garnered two Eisner Award nominations for best humor publication. Vasquez then did the full-color I Feel Sick and two Filler Bunny mini-comics, all for Slave Labor.

It didn't take long for Hollywood to take notice of Vasquez's unique talent. His latest project, Invader Zim, is an animated series for Nickelodeon starring an alien bent on Earth conquest and his dangerous 'advanced' robot sidekick, it premiered last March. Vasquez is deeply involved with the show as its co-executive producer, head writer, and occasional voice actor. I wonder who decided that the guy who made Johnny the Homicidal Maniac should make a cartoon for Nick. Check out slavelabor.com for more information. If you have any questions or comments for Jhonen drop me a line and Ill forward it to him, if he doesn't mind that is. Interested in buying?
