Damsels in Distress

Chapter 50 A week passed. Lorri sat on the bed, looking at the painting. There was no dragon, no hero. Only the woods. “You okay?” She smiled. “Yeah, mom. Just thinking” “About your travels?” She nodded. Her mother sat beside her, looking at the wall. It seemed no time at all had passed when the girls were in the painting, so no one believed their story. All but Lorri’s mom. They watched the wall, silently. But out of the corner of their eyes, they saw a figure walk onto the wall. It was Striker! The painting of striker, dressed in rich clothes, a crown upon his head, his face worn and sad. He sat on a stump, taking off his crown. He looked at it, studying it, then tossed it to the ground in disgust. Lorri smiled. She felt it again. Felt being shoved by an unseen hand, and found her and her mother in the painting. The forlorn king did not see them. Lorri’s mother was frightened, but excited. They picked up their backpacks, which had once again appeared filled, and Lorri motioned for them to silently slip in behind them. King Striker spoke to the air, his voice hopeless. “Why must she be from another world? Why did I have to fall in love with her?!?” He sat there, covering his face with his hands. Lorri’s mother looked at him, feeling so sorry for him, a normal, motherly thing. “Go talk to him!” she whispered. Lorri moved from her crouched position in the trees to those in front of him. “Been saving any damsels lately, Mercenary?” His head reared his head back in surprise and grabbed onto her tight. “LORRI!!!” They laughed and hugged for the longest time, lifting her off the ground. “I feared I should never see you again. But what of your mother?” She smiled, ran to the trees behind him pulled her mom out from the trees. “Your majesty, King Striker, may I present my mother Lorraina.” She bowed as best she could, and Striker just smiled. “Such a sweet lady, I can now see why you could not leave her. But will you stay? For ever?”

~Epilogue~
The next day, Lygia and Safire came over to Lorri’s house to try to comfort her. But they found no one at home. “Lorri!! Where are you?” Shouted Lygia. Safire smiled, looking to the floor. She picked up a scroll that lay there, carefully leaned on against the wall.
