LIMITS
The world unrelenting
Showing you the definite in this life
Showing you where your limits are
And pushing you to see if you can extend them
Pushing and pulling in every direction
Sometimes a moment of calm
Can be the hardest thing to find.
DOWNHILL
The feeling inside
That I haven’t had enough pain yet
The feeling inside
That there is more pain to come
More loss, more heartache
Less ability
The feeling that this endless search
For a positive frame of mind
Whilst falling ever downward
Will only bring me more harm
The feeling that this impending jolt
Can’t be avoided
Not now
Not when sitting so alone
Not when sliding so fast
Not when the front is becoming so fixed
Not when my ability is leaving me
Not when you won’t help me
I would love for the feeling to leave
But fact is
It’s here for a reason
And like everything else
It’s going downhill.
BEAUTY
A speckled covered world
Hiding beneath the cloud
Sitting in the shade
Edging away from the sun
Shades of blue and white and grey
Of clouds overhead
To protect you today
To reassure you of shelter
Of food for another day
To mark the horizon
And shower land and sea
A beauty to behold
In such a different way
With brightness seeping in
To help you through your day.
UNREQUITED
The boy who seemed to have it all,
The eyes, the smile, the future,
The boy you couldn’t let out of your mind,
Thinking of a joint future,
Tracing out your lives together,
Smiling in your mind’s eye,
The boy who seemed to have it all,
Is leaving,
And he may not know,
Know how you thought of him each night,
And day,
Hoping to see him,
To have some excuse,
To walk right by him,
And remind him of some unconscious thought,
The boy who seemed to have it all,
Who’s floated through the wedding vows,
And naming your would-be children,
The boy who seemed so perfect,
Is turning out not to be,
For now he is leaving,
Perhaps not to return,
A different future he has planned.
WE COULDN'T SAY GOODBYE
We couldn’t say goodbye
That would mean I’d lose you
We couldn’t say goodbye
We met with that purpose
But the words could not come
That would mean you’d lose me
We couldn’t say goodbye
But we were parting none-the-less
We spoke empty words
And the silence underneath screamed
We couldn’t say goodbye
So we never did
The words remain unspoken
We have now parted
We just couldn’t say goodbye.
TO THE TOP
Climb from the bottom
Make your divide
And use it as a rung
Climb from the bottom
You’re aiming for the top
You don’t care who falls before you
You’re getting to the top
Woe behold those you must step on
Your eyesight is set
One focus
One drive for all you do
You will lead
You will watch others
Climb from the bottom
You have stepped on
All those that cared
You’ve reached the top on your own
Is it all you dreamed it would be?
