Art Department
Students will have the opportunity to create crafts from a wide range of cultures, with a strong emphasis on design and craftsmanship. Areas of study will include pottery, jewelry, papier mache, stitchery, basketry, weaving and more.

921--Contemporary crafting 1/2 credit
This course is desifned to help the student experiment atistically in a relaxed environment. The projects created in this class will include macrame, jewelery, candelmaking, paper making and much more.

Students who are interested in art vut feel unsure of their talents are welcome to experience art in a non-threatening environment. A love of art and a desire to experience art are the only prerequisites for this hands-on art course, designed for first year art students.
This introductory course will allow students to experience a wide variety
of art media. Course work will focus on helping students acquire vasic drawing,
painting, and design experience. Students will have and opportunity to use
a variety of media, as they explore the link vetween artistic theory and experience.
This course is a prerequsite for all other art courses offered, with the exception
of 921--Contemporary Crafting.

This full credit course is available to students who have successfully completed Art Foundations. Students who sign up for Studio Art I will experience a continued, yet more intense study of art. This course has veen designed to help students strengthen their vbasic drawing skills, and further challenge them in a variety of two- and three-dimensional media. Aesthetics and art appreciation will also be studied.

941--Studio Enrichment Art I 1/2 credit
This course is designed to afford enrichment time to students currently enrolled in 940--Studio Art I. Supplemental time shall further students' experiences in both two- and three-dimensional meda.

This courses' curriculum will cover various painting media such as oil, oil stick, acyrlic, and watercolor. The students will sharpen their skills in perspective drawing, spatial relationships, and three-dimensional design. This course is especially suited for the student planning to pursue a career in art or who enjoys a hobby.

951--Studio Enrichment Art II 1/2 credit
This course is designed to afford enrichment time to students currently enrolled in 950--Studio Art II. Supplemental time shall further students' experiences in both two- and three-dimensional meda.
--Prerequsite:940--Studio Art I and student must currently be enrolled in 950--Studio Art II.
This course will cover a wide variety of three-dimensional works. Clay, paper, balsa foam, and wire will be used to create sculptural forms. Different techniques in pottery and sculpture will be addressed.

Advanced Studio Art is a college preparation course for the gifted art student
who plans to pursue art as a career.
The course is designed to provide students with ample opportunities to develop
their creative potential in various media, as well as their understanding
of visual communication and appreciation. The course work in the first semester
is devoted to preparing a college entrance portfolio, presentation, and interviews.
During the second Semester, along with continued instruction in a variety
of media, each student will create and develop a course guideline to specifically
suit his or her talents and interests.
