This is my glider room. For some people who are planing to make a glider room I'm going to throw out some ideas and pictures. I'm always taking new and better pictures so this page may change every once in a wile, SO COME BACK and see some more

Making a Glider room

Sugar glider should be worked on as a team. Don't make a glider room, if your partner is not as pashionate about sugar gliders as you, becasue then you will not be bilding for a fun play area but bilding to seporate them from you and your family. Remenber they need you, and your family. So concider before you buy a glider is you whole family willing to pitch in.

First start with an empty room. I never started with an empty room but learned that that was a bad idea, so from my bad experience I'd say start with an empty room, if you don't you will have your own bad eperiences, so here I am warning you. Once you have the empty spare room the rest is easy.

You start with their cage and just keep adding things in it for them to climb on (branches, rope, scratching posts etc). you can even put chairs in there for you to sit on when you are spending time with your gliders,. But remenber whatever you put in the glider room is theirs and you are giving them permishion to mark it up, and you are not asking for it back, so I wouldn't offer it for guests to sit on.

Glider Proofing

Make sure that all vents and holes in the wall are plugged and that there are no electrical appliances in the room. You want it to be 100% safe. All outlets are plugged by childproof plugins

Don't have any bright lights rather have a night light or dimb light. You don't want your glider to go blind, and don't make it to dark, make sure your glider room has a window so the moonlight can come in.
make sure that the door is very close to the floor, becuase trust me, they can fit under the smallest places, and don't forget to check your closet area as well.

I had a cage that was about 17" by 25" which was too small for a glider cage, we know that gliders need big cages, but rather then throwing it away, I found another use for it. I use this small cage as a feeding cage. I took it apart. I took off the top of the cage, I placed the bottom tray of the cage on the top. Its fits perfect. and I put the food on the top tray on the top of the cage, because gliders like to be high when eating then I clean the top tray every day.
Can you see how I have their food on a plate rather then in a bird dish? they like that better because their food is not mixed and they can pick what they want. Try it! Now you need to find a place for your feeding cage and it needs to be easy to clean, you can use any idea you please, this was just my idea.

Cleaning the feeding area

once you find a place in the room for your feeding cage you need to make it easy to clean. Having a glider room means it should be in top shape at all times. You want to save your feeding area from splatters from food because gliders are messy eaters and they will chuck their food if they don't like it.

The wall and the floor.

cover the wall with wrapping paper, wall paper (as long as you can tape it up and remove it as it gets dirty.) newspaper or just plain paper. This is what I do because I can just take it down and throw it away rather they washing the walls all the time. There is already so much to clean in a glider room. I have heard of some people using a shower curtain. DO NOT use a towel or any kind of cloth. this makes the gliders unhappy because they get their nails caught in it.

You can place news paper on the carpet every night to protect the floor. this way if they throw a grape, it lands on the news paper and you can throw it away. I would also suggest placing newspaper under all the racks and fun things they climb on, this way you can catch poopies pee-pees. People say you can't litter train a glider, but sure you can, if you place newspaper under everything they think is fun because that is their litter box. If they like it they will mark it.
Here is another idea for carpet protecting that looks better and is just as easy to clean. If you are renting, then this should be a MUST even if you use news paper.

Go to a cheep carpet store and buy the cheapest ugliest carpet, as it will be getting ruined. a piece of carpet that fits the whole glider room. For me it would be about 8 feet by 15 feet, and the price was $68.50 this way you can use less newspaper, and use a vacuum more often, about everyday. I would say try to carpet shampoo every 2-3 months you should do that no matter what idea you have for your glider room. Then when you move you can pitch your carpet and get a new one, I'm not going to because its kept vary clean, it looks better then the carpet under. I got this idea from new cars, they have carpet over carpet, to protect carpet. so you can replace the carpet easly and the REAL carpet underneath never gets seen and stays safe.

Last step

Once you get the main stuff down, the rest is easy, all you do is spend lots of money on them, buy them pouches for them to sleep in different places, rope scratching posts for them to climb on.

you can make a nest box out of a shoe box, I placed mine on the top shelf of the closet because it is one of their faviorite places.

another idea is getting a couple pieces of plywood, and wrap rope around it for them to climb (make your own scratching post) place fake plants around the room.
