Instructions for using Movable Type Template:

  1. Upload all the image files (.jpg/.gif) and the stylesheet if applicable (.css) to the directory where your main movable type index file will be.
Please note: If you make a new directory for images, you will need to make those changes in the movable type template files as well.

  2. Log in to your Movable Type control panel and click on Manage Blog > Templates.

  3. Open the MT-main.html file included in your zip within notepad or another html editor of your choice. Now, within the templates in Movable Type, click on the Main Index template link at the top of the page. Copy everything from the MT-main.html into the Main Index template (replacing everything that is there currently).

  4. Save Template Changes at the bottom of the page in Movable Type.

  5. Now go back to the template listing and click on Master Archive Index template, then replace what is there with everything in the MT-archive.html (included in the zip).

  6. Save template, then back to the template listing again and click on Category Archive. Now replace everything inside with the contents of the MT-catdate.html file (also included in the zip). Repeat this exact process only this time with the Date-Based Archive template and replace with the information in the same file, MT-catdate.html. Save this template.

  7. Back again to the template listing and click on Individual Entry Archive. Now replace everything inside with the contents of the MT-individual.html file (also included in the zip) and save this template also.

  8. Now back on the template listing page, scroll all the way to the bottom of that page and you will see where a set of templates can be created called Template Modules. Click the link on the right side beside the words Template Modules, 'Create new template module'.

  9. On the new template page, in the Name: field, type 'header' (without the single quotes), then copy and paste everything from the MT-header.html file that was included in the zip into the Module: area. Now save this template.

  10. Click to create a new template page again, and in the Name: field, type 'footer' (without the single quotes), then copy and paste everything from the MT-footer.html file that was included in the zip into the Module: area. Now save this template.

  11. Once more, go to create a new template page, and in the Name: field, type 'sidebar' (without the single quotes), then copy and paste everything from the MT-sidebar.html file that was included in the zip into the Module: area. Now save this template.

  12. Once this is all done, over on your sidebar, click on the Rebuild Site button (down near the bottom of the menu bar). Another small box should pop up and you will need to choose 'Rebuild All Files' and click on Rebuild. Do not press anything until it finishes. Once it finishes, you can click on View Site from the small box and everything should work properly. Once at your site, you may need to refresh to get the current version.
