Landers Forever

My 9th grade year was the first year in Air Force Junior ROTC. I was always a little shy and doubted my abilities alot. I just did not believe that I had the potential to do great things such as be on the Drill Team or Color Guard. That freshman year I just layed low until I got used to everything. Near the end of my freshmen year my instructor, the best teacher and friend you will ever meet, Chief D. was asking the cadets if they would like to sign up for the Summer Leadership Camp so I went. It was only 4 days long but it seemed like forever! We would wake up early, fall in for inspection, march to classes, and it really felt like we were in the military. From that moment on, I knew what I wanted to do... I wanted to be a part of the United States Military. At the beginning of my 10th grade year I joined the Drill Team. On our first Drill Meet our Special Teams brought home 6 trophies. When they called our school to receive a color guard trophy I was really excited... but when they called our school again to receive a Drill Team trophy, my heart stopped and I realized that all those hot days on the field we worth it. I was the first "Drill Team Member of the Month" that year as well. I started out as the worst marcher and became one of the best because I was dedicated and I loved everyone on the team, we were a family. When 11th grade came around, I still did not stop up to the plate...
