I used to play a lot of console games but now that i've pretty much quit playing console games and have become a big time PC gamer. The amount of games i play and recommend on the PC have been growing in number. I got rid of most of my old DOS games but could still suggest a zillion games (Dooms, Quakes, Half-Life, Archon, Mortal Kombat II, Monkey Islands ... well you get the idea). So i've started with the games that really got me into PC gaming (not listed here are the Monkey Islands, Dooms and the earlier Quakes). Though i still play all my old console favorites on emulators - and when i can emulate my PSX perfectly, i'll sell that sucker too). And the constant grudge match can be seen here.

I have a deep fascination with World War II, what our military went through, what our world went through. Also, it allows me to express my hatred of Hitler's Reich.
Emperor: Battle for Dune

Despite the insane difficulty, this game and sequel to Dune2/2000 is very fun. The units have more variety than before and the terrain is truer to the book and movie. Both Dune 2000 and Emperor were filmed in the style of the movie. Overall, an excellently Dune themed RTS. However, my bias still lays with Blizzard.
Black & White

Did you like Populous? If you even liked that game or the idea behind it, you will LOVE Black & White. Although it is buggy the first patch fixes many critical errors and is still well worth putting up with. Now if i could just get my friends to get it so i could play it online.
Quake III Arena

Play Free for All, Team Deathmatch (my favorite), Capture The Flag (and frag your foes) and one-on-one Tournament modes either with your friends or against a bunch of computer controlled bots. Excellent! Team Arena goes on to make a great thing better!
Diablo II/Lord of Destruction
blizzard.com
This is a very, very long update to the simplistic demon killing that was Diablo. However, this game is truly made for online monster bashing. Once you get past the Normal mode, however, it's just a repeat of what you went through before and the only saving grace of this game past Normal mode is the online aspect of it.
Starcraft/Broodwar

Starcraft and Broodwar are simply the ultimate RTS games. Blizzard does indeed show that lightening can strike twice.
Worms 2

This is an awesome turn based tank/strategy game. Best when you have a bunch of friends that will play it with you online or at a single keyboard.
Quake II

When it came out people were calling it Doom III. While not Doom III it had strong single player, cooperative play and deathmatch modes. Later on, when capture the flag became a part of the official patch, teamplay really kicked off.
Warcraft II/War II BNE

This is the grand-daddy. Yes, Dune 2 started it; yes warcraft made it popular but Warcrat II is what really kicked it off. Sort of like what Doom did for first person shooting games. Oh, and you must get the expansion pack with this game as well.
