Tattooine, located on the outer rim, is the home of many legendary Star Wars characters and scenes from the movies. In Episode I, after the Queen's Starship escapes the iron fist of the Trade Federation blockade, they find they are low on fuel. Where do they turn? Tattooine, where the Trade Federation had no presence, but the Hutt's were Gods. This seemingly trivial decision made by the later legendary Obi-wan Kenobi, was monumental in Star Wars history. Had they not chosen that planet, they would not have met young Anakin Skywalker, destined for the darkside. Had they not, they wouldn't have met C3-PO, and without the fateful meeting of the later-lovers, Amidala (Padme) and Anakin, there would be no Luke Skywalker or Leia Organa Solo. Chew on THAT for a while. Tattooine is also very important in the later films. In Episode VI, an important scene in the movie happens-yes, you guessed it-on Tattoine. In Episode V, Han Solo had been frozen in Carbonite by Darth Vader as a test run for the freezing of Luke Skywalker and later taken to Jabba the Hutt by Boba Fett. There he hung as a rather gruesome decoration in Jabba's palace, waiting to be released. In Episode VI, Princess Leia (in disguise) comes to rescue him. Of course, Jabba catches her and she becomes his slave. Ewwwww. But *bum buda ba* Luke Skywalker comes to the rescue! Then, Luke is caught (and almost fed to the Rancor) and it seems like Jabba won. WRONG! They have a plan, oh yes, a very daring, a very cool plan. They execute it in the middle of the Dune Sea, on the Skiff, directly above the Sarlacc pit. With a jaunty little wave, Luke signaled R2-D2 to send his lightsaber flying. After the neatly executed flippity thing he does, he catches it and the fighting begins. In the end, our hero's win, but the point is, without Tattooine, there would be no cool battle scene with Jabba above a gaping Maw. As you can see, Tattooine is essential to the ultimate Star Wars battle scenes. Oh, and don't forget the awesome podraces they have there! One more thing, without Tattooine, Luke wouldn't have that KILLER tan of his. :)
