Fractures of the Extremities

Broken Limbs With most of these type injuries, the bone can be set using a splint or some times making a sling. In many cases the injury will heal on its own given time.

Leg breaks -Determine where the break is first. If it is broken so that the bones are misplaced then push the bone back into place. This is going to be extremely painful for the person so make sure that you have several to hold the person still. Fashion a splint using pieces of wood. Make sure the wood is flat and straight. Place the leg on top of the wood. If the break is severe, place two pieces of wood on either side of the leg as well. Use strips of cloth or binding cord to secure the leg to the board tightly. Ensure that the person injured cannot move the leg in any direction.

Arm Breaks-When dealing with arm breaks, it is often muchly like that of a broken leg. If there is a complete break, move the bone back into place. If it is not a complete break but a fracture, fashion a small splint from wood, secure the arm to it and then use a sling to prevent the person from subconsciously moving the arm.
