Common treatment for all burns After the burn has occured then it is a matter of stopping the burn. A way to stop the burn is to immerse it in cool clean water, to either cool or warm up the burn (pending if it is created by either cold or hot). Afterwards it is recommended that the person drinks lots of liquid, and eat fruit and other foods that are juicy for a few days.
Minor burns This is when the cooling of the burn takes between 10-45 minutes, and usually do not result in the skin blistering, and is mostly just a reding of the skin. For these burns DO NOT put on healing salve nor dress the wound. One could give either Kanda leaf or willow bark/leaf for pain relief.
Moderate Burns These burns are worse than the minor ones and often result in blistering of the skin. Even so the basic rules still apply. Cool the wound to prevent further burning. Give pain relievers. Once the wound has cooled it can be protected by healing salve and a clean, dry, smooth bandage.
Major Burns This is when the blisters have burst and is bleeding. This is very serious and can kill if not treated properly. Usually no cold is appied to these type of burns because there is no pain, however it can be used because usually major burns also come with moderate and minor burns. For this type, cover the burn with a dry, non-stick, clean dressing. Treat for shock, and keep the burn elevated to reduce swelling. For this type, do not give them water. If the person complains of thirst, wet only their lips.
