For broken noses, stop the bleeding, if necessary push or pull on the nose to pop it back into place and leave it to heal on its own. Never let the person blow their nose. This thing is very irresistable but it has to be done. For broken cheeks, or if the person blew their nose with a broken nose, stop the bleeding, administrating kanda leaf, or willow bark, as a pain killer, you then with careful pressure push the bones back into place. 5. Head Injuries Severity of the head injury may not be shown up for a while after the injury, but most times the severity could be measured upwards of three hours and therefore the injury must be looked after in the proper way to prevent death. Usually the worse the symptoms or the longer it takes for the symtoms to appear usually indicates the severity... A way to check for head injuries is check the persons vision, to check for double seeing and sight reconition. If the person cannot tell you that there is no knife in a tree and there is that indicates a severe concussion. Also ask simple questions, like their name, where they are and the day of the week, etc. If there is confusion and/or having problems staying focused and/or there is dialation of the eyes, then there is probability of concussion and that that person should rest but not sleep for the night, and a vidual should stand guard over them to make sure they don't slip to valhailia. In severe cases where the person is having all indicated symptoms of above, with the inclusion of slipping in and out of coma, call for a healer that can proform such surgeries to relieve the swelling. If there is some swelling and the person is responsible, get some ice and a cloth and place it on the sore spot to help with the swelling. ****************** If bleeding Clean the wound and then check to see how deep the cut is. If it requires stitching, shave the spot on the head free of hair before re-cleaning the wound and then follow directions below on how to stitch. One done stitching, bandage the wound and check daily for any signs of infection or pulled stitches. If the wound is not deep, clean and bandage the wound. **************** Broken jaw (lower manable), usually is a serious and disfiguring injury. Usually treatment is as follows...Tie the jaw upwards and tie off with a soft rep cloth. If there is vomiting then remove the bandage at once and support the jaw until it stops. The patiant must be on a liquid diet of mashed and boiled fruits and vegetables and milk. 6. Knee Injuries These injuries are considered quite serious since if the knee is not treated properly it can lead to very long-term problems with the free. Bandaging a knee -For sprains wrap from the lower thigh down to the upper calf. The bandage must be of flexible rep and be sapportive on the opposite side of the sprain. In other words the rep cloth must cross in a sturdy X formation on the uninjured side, if there is two of them the knee cap is left open to check for circulation. This still allows mobility as well as stability. If the injury is a cut or slice on the knee that requires stiches, sich the wound carefully with a multitude of loose stiches that pull the skin together but in movement doesn't tear. Afterwards put on a wrap that is for a sprin but for both sides to protect the stiches. A spiril wrap then could be used to cover the stiches, to protect them from dirt and debris. If the person is going to immobile then the stiches could then be tighter. and the knee immobilized so that they cannot be broken. If the knee is broken, rotate the foot to appropriate angle (90 to the knee). Replace the bones and reconstruct the knee externally, only once done put the kneecap back into place (sometimes could be difficult and slip out of place while doing so). Splint rigidly with the knee slightly bent. After the bones knit, soft excercise must be done before walking and running to make sure that the knee cap will stay in place. 7. When someone is poisoned, no matter what type of poisoning it is run to the servery and make a quick mixture of milk, honey and ipec . Force the person to drink the mixture, all of it. This will induce vomiting. If necessary, stick your fingers down a persons throat to help aid in inducing the vomiting. You will have less then 30 seconds to get them to start vomiting so move fast. 8. When checking for infection, use your fingers to gently probe the wound. If the skin is a brownish/bluish color, if there is a foul odour, if puss is leaking from the wound, if a recently healed person have a high fever or/and the skin around the wound is hard, there is a good chance that there is infection. Sterilize the knife before making a small cut in the wound. Push around the wound to let it bleed freely. The flowing blood will aid in cleaning the puss from the wound. Wipe the wound off and continue pushing around it to drain the puss. Check above, below and to the sides of the wound for any sign of infection that have spread. Once draining the puss, clean the wound and re-stitch and bandage. **************************** 9. Severed limbs This is a serious wound and should only be tended to by an experienced healing slave. When a limb is severed it will take a very skilled healer to be able to tell whether or not the limb is worth saving or not. If the wound I deemed worth saving then it will take expert stitching and probably some searing to reattach the wound with the nerves being the most important aspect of this. If the limb cannot be saved, it is important to remove the part of the limb that will be of no further use to the person. Once this is done, clean the wound, then spread some numbing salve around it to minimize the pain. Using an iron sear the wound close. When the searing is complete, use some healing salve on top of the wound and let it heal. Constantly check for any signs of infection. 10. Punctured lung This type of wound also should be tended to by an experienced healing slave since there is the chance of causing further damage if not done properly. The warning signs for this type of wound is a person coughing up blood and wheezing. If a person has a puncture lung you will need to get permission to use a knife or have a Free make the type of incision you need. Make sure that the knife have been thoroughly sterilized before making a small hole where the injured lung is. Take a piece of tube (found in the medical supply room) and slide it down into the lung. Retrieve the special bottle used for this type of healing (its a small bottle with a sealed lid, only a hole on top to allow tubes to be stuck down into the bottle). Slide the tubing into the bottle and let the blood drain from the lungs into the bottle. Now you might have to take the end of the tubing that is not inside the lung and suck on it for a second or two in order to get the blood flowing through the tube. Once the lung has drained completely, remove the tubing, stitch the wound with one or two stitches and bandage. 11. Blood transfusions Yes blood transfusions did occur on Gor and is not too hard to perform. Make sure that not only do the person that is willing to give up some of their blood is the right blood type, but also ensure this person has no kind of disease. Cleaning of wounds When cleaning a room remember that just warm water is not enough to kill the germs which can lead to infection. Using salt water is also not wise since salt will eat at the exposed flesh. There are two mixtures that I suggest. The first one being warm water with healing powder mixed into it. While this is a good mixture since the healing powders will fight against infection it is not my favorite for cleaning wounds. The second method is using warm paga mixed with healing powder. The alcohol in the paga helps in killing off all the germs. The ingredients in the paga will not harm the wound at all. This is the method I personally prefer because of the lessened chances of infection. As a said before, either mixture will work. Use a clean cloth and dip it into the mixture then proceed to wipe the area around the wound as well as the wound itself clean. If the wound has been stitched up and you are cleaning it and just re-bandaging it, wipe off the stitches carefully. Bandaging When bandaging a wound, spread the clean bandage out and sprinkle healing powder on it. Then cover the wound completely, wrapping the bandage around the wound and pulling it tightly to ensure that no dirt can get inside the bandage. Use either the ends of the bandage or strips of silk to tie the bandage close tightly. Stitching When stitching a wound remember you are not sewing up a pair of silks or some torn leathers. Choose the size needle first. Then spread some numbing salve around the wound. For wounds that are not positioned on key areas of the body (meaning bendable places like the knee or elbow) choose a smaller needle. Pick the strength of the thread based also on where the wound is positioned (stronger thread for bendable spots). Make your stitches small and tight. For those bendable spots, use the herribone design to ensure that the stitching stays in place. Searing - Remember this is done as a last resort when stitching will not work. Take the iron and place it on the fire. The searing iron is not as big as a branding iron and comes in different sizes. There is a small one used to sear inside of wounds and there is a medium size one used to sear the outside of wounds close. There is also a slightly larger iron used to sear severed limbs close. While the iron is heating up, take some numbing salve and spread it around the wound (this will make the area numb and minimize the amount of pain the person will experience). After the iron is hot, press it against the area you are trying to burn shut for no more then three seconds. Remove the iron and spread some healing salve very carefully on top of the wound. Pain Medications Since some wounds are going to be more painful when attempting to heal as opposed to when the actual wound was received always offer something for pain to the person before beginning to heal them. (In the case of a slave, ask her Owner if pain medication can be given out). The best thing for pain is a kanda leaf. Take one leaf and give it to the Free person. Let them chew on it but make sure to tell them always not to swallow it. If they swallow it refer to the treatment for poisoning. The narcotics in kanda leaf will be all that is needed to give orally for pain. Mix that with the numbing salve that you will spread around the wound and a person shouldnt feel much of anything. When you are done healing make sure to ask the person to spit the leaf into your hand so that you can dispose of it.
