The Lien Platform
This page is always changing, since I am not even going to be elected for another 14 years. The following are just some of the issues that are important to me.
Education:
I have always been a strong supporter of education. After all, children are the future. We need to focus on educating children early, especially in the areas of math, science and foreign studies. Educating children in these areas would go a long way toward training the doctors and scientists of tomorrow. Then we can help fight the problems we are having in other areas, including poverty and disease which are all serious problems that must be corrected.
Immigration / Border Control:
This country was built on immigration. 100% of the people here are here because someone in their family came here from another land. It's one of the things that make this country great. People from less fortunate countries were able to come here and enjoy freedom and start over. The moment we stop allowing people to come here is the moment we would need to start kicking out our own citizens. Instead of paying a lot of money to build fences, what we need to do is spend the money to increase the number of officers to keep our streets safe.
Abortion:
Now this is a difficult subject. With such strong points both for and against it, it is difficult to stand firmly on either side. There is the long standing argument that a woman's body is her own. That is true, however, once a woman becomes pregnant it is not just her body anymore. Some people argue that they should not be forced to accept the responsibilities that come with parenthood just because they get pregnant, but if you do not accept that responsibility than you are not responsible enough to have sex, therefore, should not. What we need to work on is improving the adoption programs to make it less costly to adopt so that it becomes an option instead of killing unwanted children. There is however 1 point in favor of abortion and that is rape. The government should not be able to force rape victims to keep a baby when it was not their choice to get pregnant. Unfortunately, there is no effective way to tell who was raped and who was not, which makes it very difficult to be either for or against abortion.
Healthcare:
Presently, there are too many people living without healthcare. Too many people working 2 or 3 jobs and are unable to take their children to the doctor because of the high cost of medical attention. This is unacceptable. We need to be able to get everyone the medical attention that they need and deserve. This would not only help our citizens to be able to work without having to worry about paying off high medical bills, it would also save lives, which is infinitely more important. To do this there are 3 things we must do. 1: Lower the cost of visits to the hospitals and clinics, if only by a fraction. 2: Increase government spending to those who cannot afford healthcare. 3: open more free and low cost healthcare centers. If these steps are followed in addition to healthier living habits, I am confident that we can greatly increase the quality of living and the length of time each person gets to spend her on this great planet of ours.
Environment:
The earth is very important to me, after all, I live on it. There is only 1 and once it's gone, it's gone. Thats why it is important to keep it clean and replant when we cut down trees. Unfortunately, no matter how much money the government throws at the problem, if people do not start cleaning up after themselves, it will just keep getting worse. That is why the people need to take initiative.
