I can't say if either of his names were inspired by anything or anyone in particular, though I suppose "Frankly" could come from George Frankly of Mathnet, even if I can't see any possible connection. It could just as easily come from Rhett Butler saying "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn," though again, I see absolutely no connection. Most likely it's just totally random. (Or it could come from something I simply don't remember anymore.) The "crackpot inventor" thing seems like it could be a common cliche, inspired by anyone from Doc Brown of "Back to the Future" to Jasper Dale of "Road to Avonlea." Or even more crackpot people who don't really come to mind. Maybe someone from Brisco County, Jr.. I dunno. Whether he's based on anyone at all, or not, he's probably fairly different from most crackpots. I dunno what to say, really, that the bio and trivia note haven't already said.
