This project is in support of our wounded soldiers that are arriving at Madigan Army Medical Center. Some of the soldiers are arriving with only the clothes they are wearing. They leave the war zone quickly on their way to Landstuhl Army Medical Center in Germany. They are there for a short time before being sent back to the United States. The more seriously injured will stay at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC but the majority are sent to the hospital closest to their home or duty station.
The goal of this project is to provide a backpack filled with comfort items and other goods to every wounded soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan that is in need at Madigan Army Medical Center. As of May 31, 2005 I have been able to deliver 20 backpacks to Madigan Army Medical Center. I have been told that these backpacks have made the difference for the soldiers arriving at the hospital with no gear. I will be delivering 10 more backpacks to Madigan on August 10, 2005. These 10 backpacks will have a special tag on them in honor of a soldier killed in Iraq on May 31, 2005. The soldier was the brother-in-law of one of our service unit Girl Scout leaders.
