The Battle of Normandy, or D-day to most, was fought on June 6, 1944. The Normandy coastline is a stretch of beach, about 60 miles long, on the ocean of France. This was by far one of the most important battles in the war for the Allies, because not only did this mean that the Allied forcers had successfully gotten into France and enemy territory, but it was also a large blow to the Axis powers. The plan was to invade the shores of Normandy in five attack squads at strategic locations on the beach. False information was given to known “leaks” in the government, saying that the Allied forces planned to attack near a channel a few hundred miles north of the actual landing site. Fake tanks were placed there to reinforce the information. Even with all of the precautions, Germany along with everyone else knew what was coming, so they were only a little less prepared. The Allied forces gathered a huge assortment of planes, tanks, and guns, as well as a very large assault group. The Allies plan was very successful and though the Allies suffered minor casualties, it was worth it.
