IF TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME

If tomorrow starts without me and I'm not there to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me
I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today
While thinking of the many things we didn't get to say
I know how much you love me as much as I love you
And each time that you think of me I know you'll miss me too
But if tomorrow starts without me please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand
And said my place was ready in heaven far above
And that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love
But as I turned to walk away a tear fell from my eye
For all my life I'd always thought I didn't want to die
I had so much to live for... so much yet to do
It seemed almost impossible that I was leaving you
I thought of all the yesterdays... the good ones and the bad
I thought of all the love we shared and all the fun we had
If I could relive yesterday just even for awhile
I'd say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile
But then I fully realized that this could never be
For emptiness and memories would take the place of me
And when I thought of worldly things I might miss come tomorrow
I thought of you and when I did my heart was filled with sorrow
But when I walked through Heaven's gates I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me from his great golden throne
He said this is eternity and all I've promised you
Today your life on earth is past but here it starts anew
I promise no tomorrow but today will always last
And since each day's the same way there's no longing for the past
But you have been so faithful... so trusting and so true
Though there were times you did some things you know you shouldn't do
But you have been forgiven and now at last you're free
So won't you take my hand and share my life with me
So if tomorrow starts without me don't think we're far apart
For every time you think of me I'm right here in your heart

TWO THOUSAND ONE, NINE ELEVEN

Two thousand one, nine eleven
Five thousand plus arrive in Heaven
As they pass through the gate,
Thousands more appear in wait
A bearded man with stovepipe hat
Steps forward saying,
"Let's sit, let's chat."
They settle down in seats of clouds
A man named Martin shouts out proud
"I have a dream!" and once he did
The Newcomer said, "Your dream still lives."
Groups of soldiers in blue and gray
Others in khaki, and green then say
"We're from Bull Run, Yorktain, the Maine."
The Newcomer said, "You died not in vain."
From a man on sticks one could hear
"The only thing we have to fear..."
The Newcomer said, "We know the rest,
Trust us sir, we've passed that test."
"Courage doesn't hide in caves
You can't bury freedom in a grave"
The Newcomers had heard this voice before
A distinct Yankee's twang from Hyannisport shores.
A silence fell within the mist
Somehow the Newcomer knew that this
Meant time had come for her to say
What was in the hearts of the five thousand plus that day.
"Back on Earth, we wrote reports
Watched our children play in sports
Worked our gardens, sang our songs
Went to church and clipped coupons
We smiled, we laughed, we cried, we fought
Unline you, great we're not."
The tall man in the stovepipe hat
Stood and said, "Don't talk like that!
Look at your country, look and see
You died for freedom, just like me!"
Then, before them all appeared a scene
Of rubbled streets and twisted beams
Death, destruction, smoke and dust
And people working just 'cause they must
Hauling ash, lifting stones,
Knee deep in hell but not alone.
"Look! Blackman, Whiteman, Brownman, Yellowman
Side by side helping their fellow man!"
So said Martin, as he watched the scene
"Even from nightmares, can be born a dream."
Down below three firemen raised
The colors high into ashen haze
The solders above had seen it before
On Iwo Jima back in '44.
The man on sticks studied everything closely
Then shared his perceptions on what he saw mostly
"I see pain, I see tears,
I see sorrow - but I don't see fear."
"You left behind husbands and wives
Daughters and sons and so many lives
Are suffering now because of this wrong
But look very closely... You're not really gone.
All of those people, even those who've never met you
all of their lives, they'll never forget you
Don't you see what has happened?
Don't you see what you've done?
You've brought them together... together as one.

With that the man in the stovepipe hat said
"Take my hand" and from there he led
Five thousand plus heroes, Newcomers to Heaven
On this day, two thousand one, nine eleven.

THE DAY LIBERTY CRIED

She was there when it all began
They arrived in boats from foreign lands
She was moved to behold their newfound pride
But she held her tears, she never cried
She saluted her beloved sons
As they boarded ships and manned their guns
To defend her name despite the cost
She still calls the names of the sons she lost
In war and peace she held her post
Torch in hand, steadfast, composed
Until one day horror filled her eyes
That autumn day when Liberty cried
She squinted at every piercing scream
Each broken home, each shattered dream
The twisted metal and choking smoke
Eyes welled with tears, she sobbed, she broke
With head bowed low to God she wailed,
"I let them down, my name has failed."
With trembling knees about to give
Questioning her very will to live
As her tired shoulder lowered the flame
She heard someone call out her name
Across the bay along the shores
Rose a chorus from past and present wars
And in that moment of awkward shame
Her eyes transfixed upon her flame
For in it burns the hope of all
Who claim her as their dutied call
With newfound strength and hope restored
She raised herself and her flaming sword
To show the world that they might see
That freedom will forever be
For the evil of men who thrive on fear
Can cause a wound, can produce a tear
But they will never destroy this sacred name
For when Liberty cried, it fueled her flame

SEPTEMBER ANGELS

In the halls of Heaven an offer was made
To thousands of angels one day
You can go to earth and help unite the world
But you won't be able to stay
The angels stepped forward, not one stayed behind
The mission, God explained in detail
Each angel sang praises then left for the earth
On the wings of God's love they each sailed
They brought love to the earth for they time they were here
And God Smiled at the joy of their life
Till the day of departure returned to their hearts
Each friend, each husband, child and wife
God whispered to the angels, it's time to come home
So they gathered together one day
A day in September, the State of New York
Virginia and the woods near P.A.
In a second of darkness, the angels were freed
Their sweet spirits returned to the light
Now they watch from above us with joyous hearts
As the world under God now unites

MISSING PEOPLE

Have you seen him... he is missing
Hair is red and eyes are green
We're his family and we love him
Call this number, if you've seen
Have you seen her... she is missing
Hair is blond and eyes are blue
I'm her husband and I need her
Honey, if you hear me, I love you
Have you seen them... they are missing
All unique in their own way
All have loved ones, searching for them
In hopes of finding them today
So many missing people
Pictures all along the wall
A candle lit for each of them
Praying they'll see the light and call

I MET THEM IN THE STAIRWELL

You say you will never forget where you were
When you heard the news September 11, 2001
Neither will I....

I was on the 110th floor in a smoke-filled room
With a man who called his wife to say goodbye
I held his fingers steady as he dialed.
I game him the peace to say,
"Honey, I am not going to make it,
But it is ok... I am ready to go."
I was with his wife when he called
As she fed breakfast to their children.
I held her up as she tried to understand his words
And she realized he wasn't coming home that night.
I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor
When a woman cried out to me for help.
"I have been knocking on the door
Of your heart for fifty years." I said.
"Of course I will show you the way home.
Only believe in me now."

I was on all four of those planes,
In every seat, with every prayer.
I was with the crews as they were overtaken.
I was in the very hearts of the believers there.
Comforting and assuring them
That their faith has saved them.
I was in Texas, Kansas, London.
I was standing next to you
When you heard the terrible news.
Did you sense me?
I want you to know that I saw every face.
I knew every name, though they did not all know me.
Some met me there for the first time on the 100th floor.
Some sought me out in their last breath.
Some couldn't hear me calling to them
Through the smoke and flames...
"Come to me, this way, take my hand."
Some chose, for the final time,
To ignore me... but I was there.

I did not place you there in the tower that day.
You may not know why, but I do.
However, if you were there in that explosive moment in time,
Would you have reached for me?
September 11th was not the end of the journey for you.
But someday your journey will end,
And I will be there for you as well.
Seek me now while I may be found.
Then, at any moment, you know
You are ready to go.
I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.

A POEM FOR THE GREAVING

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there.... I did not die.

YOU THOUGHT

You thought it would bring us down,
But you only made us stand taller.
You thought it would make us weak,
But you only made us stronger.
You thought we would be afraid,
But you only made us fearless.
You thought you would make us hurt,
But you only made us more powerful.
For we are American's
And you thought wrong!
We are a great nation,
And we still stand strong!

THE TERRORIST WHO ATTACKED UVILLE

Every U down in Uville liked U.S. a lot,
But the Terrorist, who lived Far East of Uville, did not.
The Terrorist hated U.S! The whole U.S. way!
Now don't ask me why, for nobody can say.
It could be his turban was screwed on too tight,
Or the sun from the desert had beaten too bright.
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
But, whatever the reason, his heart or his turban,
He stood facing Uville, the part that was urban.
"They're doing their business," he snarled from his perch.
"They're raising their families! They're going to church!
They're leading the world, and their empire is thriving,
I MUST keep the S's and U's from surviving!"
Tomorrow, he knew, all the U's and the S's
Would put on their pants and their shirts and their dresses.
They'd go to their offices, playgrounds and schools,
And abide by their U and S values and rules.
And then they'd do something he liked least of all,
Every U down in Uville, the tall and the small,
Would stand all united, each U and each S,
And they'd sing Uville's anthem, "God bless us! God bless!"
All around their Twin Towers of Uville, they'd stand,
And their voices would drown every sound in the land.
"I must stop that singing," Terrorist said with a smirk,
And he had an idea -- an idea that might work!
The Terrorist stole some U airplanes in U morning hours,
And crashed them right into the Uville Twin Towers.
"They'll wake to disaster!" he snickered, so sour,
"And how can they sing when they can't find a tower?"
The Terrorist cocked his ear as they woke from their sleeping,
All set to enjoy their U-wailing and weeping.
Instead he heard something that started quite low,
And it built up quite slow, but it started go grow --
And the Terrorist heard the most unpredictable thing...
And he couldn't believe it -- they started to sing!
He stared down at Uville, not trusting his eyes,
What he saw was a shocking, disgusting surprise!
Every U down in Uville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any towers at all!
He HADN'T stopped Uville from singing! It sung!
For down deep in the hearts of the old and the young,
Those Twin Towers were standing, called Hope and called Pride,
And you can't smash the towers we hold deep inside.
So we circle the sites where our heroes did fall,
With a hand in each hand of the tall and the small,
And we mourn for our losses while knowing we'll cope,
For we still have insite that U-Pride and U-Hope.
For America means a bit more than tall towers,
It means more than wealth or political powers,
It's more than our enemies ever could guess,
So may God bless America. Bless us! God Bless!

A HEROE'S TRAGEDY

September eleventh, two thousand and one,
A beautiful morning had just begun.
Oh no... what happened? How could this be?
An airplane has crashed! Oh my... go see!
The tower's on fire, please go quick and calm.
The tower may explode just like a bomb
As everyone's watching, chaos was high.
Oh Lord, what's happened way up in the sky?

We're alright here, it hit tower one.
That's where the horror tragically begun.
Another explosion... oh, how could this be?
Again a jet liner, that we all could see.
Oh Lord, please pray for what has conspired,
For all the poor souls trapped in the fire.
The screaming, the pain, the terror we see,
Yet we can't help them... we can't set them free.
"Oh Lord, protect them, take them with you.
Give them their wings to fly away too."
A mother of three, a son full of grace,
A man and a woman of a different race.
A daughter with beauty, a father who's brave
To stay back with his friend, to share in his grave.
One last phone call, one last goodbye.
A tear from his wife knowing her husband will die.
A face in the rubble, a picture on the wall.
How do we know if he was part of that fall?
A man that was blind, his dog by his side
Led him from darkness with greatness and pride.
A woman in a wheelchair, with tears in her eyes,
Will this be the morning... the morrning she'll die?
When out of the blue, a stranger appears,
Lifts her to safety... a man with no fears.
Saving her life, a stranger he was
A man to remember, a hero to love.
A fearless face stands out in the crowd,
A rescuer, a hero with a voice oh so loud,
"Follow the light, please take my hand.
I'll lead you to safety, a place you can stand."
"You're fine, you are safe, keep going, don't stop."
The last words I heard from that wonderful cop.
A person or angel, no fear did he see.
Just love and compassion, a hero to me.
Always remembered, so gracious, so kind.
Most of the faces remain in our minds.
A very loud rumble, the next thing we see
A plane hit the pentagon, another tragedy.
More lives have been lost, more heroes have risen.
We think it is over, but really it isn't.
When high from above more people may die,
As flight ninety-three swerves in the sky.
Heroes emerge right out of the blue.
Something can be done, there's something we can do.
We must take them over, we have to be strong.
We'll go down with the flight... it won't take long.
One last phone call before the flight's doom,
One last "I love you, we won't be home soon."
True heroes they are, as they'll always be,
The heroes of the doomed Flight 93.

NO TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

So many people left that day
No chance to say goodbye
No chance to say I love you
No time to pray or cry
So many things were left unsaid
No time to place a call
No time to run to safety
No hiding from it all
So many people left behind
No father's face at the door
No mother's soothing touch
No child to hold anymore

So many hearts were broken
No place to hide from the pain
No husband's strength to lean on
No wife's face to caress again
So many lives were shattered
No way to explain it all
No way to survive the damage
No way to stop the fall
So many memories so precious
No way to forget their face
No way to forget their love
No one to take their place
So few ways to smile through the tears
No way to escape all the hurt
No way except to remember the love
No way except to remember their worth

THEY DAY THE EAGLE CRIED

It started out an ordinary day,
Busy people going here and there.
Two planes seen coming... not the usual way.
Oh No! Who would dare?
That was the day the Eagle cried.
Such a horrible sight we have never seen,
These hijacked planes flying into our Trade Center.
Such a terrible tragedy... who could be so mean?
That was the day the Eagle cried.
Words can not describe the awful images,
No picture can protray them,
Money can not pay for these damages.
This horror will never dim.
That was the day the Eagle cried.

We are sho shocked, we just can't believe,
Our minds are a blur, our hearts are broken.
How could America be decieved?
So many words will never be spoken.
That was the day the Eagle cried.
American the beautiful, home of the brave,
We're still the best in all the world.
Our freedom we'll always cherish and crave,
Our flag over this country will always be hurled,
And the Eagle will not cry.
Some of our people you have killed,
Our spirits you can not break.
And yes, our hearts with anger are filled,
But this Nation you will never take!
And the Eagle will not cry.
One Nation under God we stand,
Divided we will not be.
We'll always have God's helping hand
To guide our leaders to victory,
And the Eagle will not cry.

THINK.....

THINK of all the people
That never got the chance
To say their last goodbye
Without a backward glance.
THINK of all the people
That said "Have a good day"
As they walked out the door
On their very last day.
THINK of all the children
That said "Mom, Dad, don't be late.
I'll see you when you get home."
Now they sit and wait.
THINK of all the lovers
Running late and short on time
To give that last kiss and hug,
If they'd only had a sign.
THINK of all the friends
That had a silly fight
Never got to say "I'm sorry"
Now will never see the light.
I mourn for all the people
That died without a clue.
I hurt for all the living
That sadly never knew
It'd be their last great hug
It's be their last sweet kiss
It'd be their last big smile
From the ones they'll always miss.
THINK of the ones around you,
The ones you love so strong.
Take time to say "I'm sorry"
To anyone you've wronged.
Don't waste a precious moment
Assuming that they know
For when these people pass
It's too late to tell them so.
Yesterday is already gone
Tomorrow may never be
Now is all we have
To make our loved ones see.

THINK..........

REMEMBRANCE

They woke up in the morning like it was a regular day,
Little did they know tragedy was coming their way.
The coffee was hot, they rushed to get dressed
Never knowing the horror that was about to come next.
You see these people were ordinary just like you and me
They all had some loved ones, a job and family,
But in seconds their lives caome to an abrupt end
At the hands of the terrorists they were helpless to defend.
They came here, those cowards, and hijacked our planes.
They caused horror and destruction that mangled and mamed.
They crashed into our buildings and claimed many lives.
We lost many loved ones, friends, husbands, and wives.
The buildings came down with a thundering crash,
Nothing was left but rubble and ash.
Those cowards that tried to tear us apart
Failed in their efforts, we have way too much heart.
It brought us together, a nation as one.
We have many values and freedom is one.
See, you'll never understand what freedom stands for.
We can pursue any dream as we leave our front door.
We're a generous people in a prosperous land.
We've helped many countries by lending a hand.
But now comes a time when we reach out to you,
To see if you'll back us... what will you do?
It may take awhile to try and rebuild,
But our towers will be there, just as strong as our will.
So all of the terrorists in all of the lands,
Laugh all you want, and even clap hands.
You see, we are the people of the U.S. of A.
You messed with us dearly, and now you shall pay.

THE ROSE

Red roses were her favorites, her name was also Rose.
And every year her husband sent them tied with pretty bows.
The year he died, the roses were delivered to her door.
The card said, "Be my Valentine," like all the eyars before.
Each year he sent her roses, and the note would always say,
"I love you even more this year, than last year on this day.
My love for you will always grow, with every passing year."
She knew this was the last time that the roses would appear.
She thought, he ordered roses in advance before this day.
Her loving husband did not know that he would pass away.
He always liked to do things early, way before the time.
The, if he got too busy, everything would work out fine.
She trimmed the stems, and placed them in a very special vase.
Then, sat the vase beside the portrait of his smiling face.
She would sit for hours, in her husband's favorite chair
While staring at his picture, and the roses sitting there.
A year went by, and it was hard to live without her mate.
With loneliness and solitude, that had become her fate.
Then, the very hour, as on Valentine's before,
The doorbell rang, and there were roses, sitting by her door.
She brought the roses in, and then just looked at them in shock.
Then, went to get the telephone, to call the florist shop.
The owner answered, she asked him if he would explain
Why would someone do this to her, causing her such pain?
"I know your husband passed away, more than a year ago,"
The oner said, "I knew you'd call, and you would want to know.
The flowers you received today were paid for in advance.
Your husband always planned ahead, he left nothing to chance.
There is a standing order that I have on file down here,
And he has paid, well in advance, you'll get them every year.
There also is another think, that I think you should know.
He wrote a special little card.... he did this years ago.
Then, should I ever find out that he's no longer year,
That's the card that should be sent to you the following year."
She thanked him and hung up the phone,
Her tears now flowing hard.
Her fingers shaking, as she slowly reached to get the card.
Inside the card, she saw that he had written her a note.
Then, as she stared in total silence, this is what he wrote.....
"Hello, my love, I know it's been a year since I've been gone.
I hope it hasn't been to hard for you to overcome.
I know it must be lonely, and the pain is very real.
Or if it was the other way, I know how I would feel.
The love we shared made everything so beautiful in life.
I loved you more than words can say, you were the perfect wife.
You were my friend and lover, you fulfilled my every need.
I know it's only been a year, but please try not to grieve.
I want you to be happy, even when you shed your tears.
That is why the roses will be sent to you for years.
When you get these roses, think of all the happiness
That we had together, and how both of us were blessed.
I have always loved you and I know I always will.
But, my love, you must go on, you have some living still.
Please try to find happiness while living out your days.
I know it is not easy, but I hope you find some ways.
The roses will come every year, and they will only stop
When your door's not answered, when the florist stops to knock.
He will come five tiems that day, in case you have gone out.
But after his last visit, he will know without a doubt
To take the roses to the place where I've instructed him
And place the roses where we are, together once again."

NOT ONE WENT ALONE

When you look and see a sunlit sky
Think of us but do not cry
We made it home and here we'll stay
To watch over you each and every day
The angels came close to carry us home
We all went together... not one went alone
Though you will not see us anymore
Though we will not wander through the door
We still can feel your every fear
We still can dry your every tear
Just look up into the sunlit sky
We'll be the angels flying by
Be not afraid... we are with you still
Though we were first to climb that hill
You must stay strong and continue our fight
We'll be your wings... we'll be your light
Each moment we pray this war we will win
We'll conquer all evil and destroy all sin
We did not know when we'd be called home
But we all went together... not one went alone
We stood up and fought as hard as we could
We all stayed so strong as we knew that we should
We didn't give up... not without a fight
But the angels were calling so we followed the light
But you must stay strong and continue our fight
We'll be your wings... we'll be your light
And we will wait for the day all Americans can sing
God bless America... let freedom ring.
