Japan Invades Pearl Harbour: December 7, 1941

December 7, 1941: Pearl Harbour is a U.S. naval base in Hawaii. Being a major obstacle in the way of Japan¡¦s conquering of the East, Japan had decided it needs to be taken out. While Japan feigned negotiating a peace treaty with U.S., when it had already decided going to war, the military was already making plans on destroying Pearl Harbour. Since Pearl Harbour was too far for land-based attack, Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto planned a surprise attack using fighter planes. December 7, 1941, 8 a.m., without an official declaration of war, Japanese fighters appeared over Pearl Harbour and the destruction began. There, the Japanese fighters earned the reputation as being kamikaze fighters. After being shot, they would guide their planes to crash into the most valuable place and attempt to destroy it. The battle at Pearl Harbour lasted less than two hours, but the destruction was immense. The American Pacific fleet was nearly totaled. Eighteen warships and 349 aircrafts were destroyed or damaged. 3581 U.S. soldiers and 103 civilians were killed or wounded.
