V.J. Day (Japan Surrenders): August 9, 1945
Aug. 9, 1945:
The night after the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, Emperor Hirohito declared Japanˇ¦s surrender. That night he said to the nation, ˇ§the time has come when we must bear the unbearable.ˇ¨ With that, Emperor Hirohito boarded the U.S. battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay and signed an unconditional surrender of Japan. With this signature, WWII was finally over.
