Allied Invasion of Italy:July 10, 1943
July 10, 1943:
The Allied invasion of Italy began on July 10, 1943. The war was drawing to an end. The Axis powers were beginning to fail. The Allied forces rightly perceived the Italians as the weaker nation of the Axis. Thus, they planned to bring Italy down to its knees first. The invasion started from the heel of the boot of Italy and the forces slowly worked their way to the heart of Italy, Rome. The Allied invasion of Italy was a huge success. They were able to secure the Mediterranean and allow themselves a different front for attacking Germany.
