Especially for you
Joe Carterisms
Joe on career ending injuries:
A hard nose slide can happen at anytime and can cause a career ending
injury. Doesn't matter when the slide happens, at the beginning of your
career or at the end of your career. But it will end your career.
Joe on the dynamics of the change-up:
When you have an 0-2 count you know that the change-up is coming but you
can't hit it because it never gets there.
Joe on Julian Tavarez:
There you see Julian Tavarez sitting around and he looks to be trying to
get a round object into a square peg.
Joe on a Sammy Sosa homerun:
Sosa really got a hold of that pitch for a two run homerun as predicted by
yours truly Paul Horhning. Remember Joe said this not Paul.
Joe on Bruce Kimm's closed door meeting:
Bruce Kim last yesterday had to air out the air in his meeting with the
team.
Joe on a player change:
Bruce Kimm is making a player change, and when you have a pitcher on the
mound you have a 50/50 chance at winning and losing.
Joe on the weather:
He comments on the sky, wondering what types of clouds are there in the sky. Unfortunately for Joe, he was looking at the moon, not a cloud. Chip replies" Stick to baseball Joe"
During the Cubs Astro games Joe made this comment regarding Jeff Fassero
pitching to Jeff Bagwell:
"When you go to the water well once too often, and when you get burned, you
get burned too often, and that it is what Jeff Bagwell did."
A conversation with Chip about when their kids are heading back to school:
Chip: "I'm not sure when the twins go back."
Joe: "I believe my kids go back on the 17th."
Chip: "That's a Saturday Joe."
Joe: "Oh, well it must be the 18th then."
Really, Sunday Joe.
Carter on Mike Lieberthal's injury last year(2001):
"Everytime I see that injury, it is just painstaking."
Carter on the Cub's scoring woes:
"The Cubs are having
trouble scoring runs because when they hit homeruns there is nobody in
scoring position to score."
Carter on Carlos Zambrano's strikeout of the first batter he faced:
"Zambrano's pitch was with precise precision."
Carter on the sweep of the Florida Marlins:
"Cubs are sweepless, in their sweep of the Marlins."
Carter on the emotions of Larry Bowa:
"Larry Bowa, wears his emotions on the sleeves of his shirts." Usually Joe, you wear your heart on your sleeve.
