ANGEL STORY

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied,

"Things aren't always what they seem"

The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest. When the sun came up the next morning the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel how could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him, she accused. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die.

"Things aren't always what they seem,"

the older angel replied. "When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it." "Then last night as we slept in the farmers bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead.

Things aren't always what they seem."

Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should. If you have faith, you just need to trust that every outcome is always to your advantage. You might not know it until some time later...

-somebody wants to protect you.
-somebody would do anything for you.
-somebody wants to be forgiven.
-somebody is grateful for your forgiveness.
-somebody wants to laugh with you.
-somebody remembers you and wishes that you were there.
-somebody needs to know that your love is unconditional.
-somebody values your advice.
-somebody wants to tell you how much they care.
-somebody wants to share their dreams with you.
-somebody wants to hold you in their arms.
-somebody wants YOU to hold them in your arms.
-somebody treasures your spirit.

A PENNY
Subject: Angels

I found a penny today
Just laying on the ground,
But it's not just a penny,
This little coin I've found.

Found pennies come from heaven,
That's what my Grandpa told me,
He said Angels toss them down,
Oh, how I loved that story.

He said when an Angel misses you,
They toss a penny down,
Sometimes just to cheer you up,
To make a smile out of your frown.
So don't pass by that penny,
When you're feeling blue,
It may be a penny from heaven,
That an Angel's tossed to you.

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get
      married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the
     kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are.
     After that, we're frustrated we have teenagers to deal with. We will
     certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell
    ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse get his or her act
      together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation,
    when we retire. The truth is, there's no better time to be happy
   than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with
    challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be
    happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfed D. Souza,
He said, "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin -
       real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something
   to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be
     served, or a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it
     dawned on me that these obstacles were my "life".
             This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to
       happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you
      have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special,
     special enough to spend your time...remember that time awaits for no
     one. So, stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to
      school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain tem pounds, until
      you have kids, until you kids leave the house, until you start work,
       until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced,
       until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home,
    until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until
       fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or the
      fifteeth, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink, until
     you've sobered up, until you die, until you ar born again to decide
     that there is no better time than right now to be happy.

     Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Dear Caroline,

Your page has been a life-saver. I am a Residentiary Canon at Manchester Cathedral and am to bury my niece tomorrow who was only 13 days old. 'My special angel' was a song sung by her mother during the days of illness (she died from meningitis) and it means a great deal to her. I wanted to use some of the lyrics from the song for the funeral and your site did all that for me. The added bonus was that you gave all the details of the original record and that has meant that I have been able to locate a copy which can now be played at the service.

Your site is excellent; I only wish I had the skills to make my own as interesting and where on earth did you get the ability to have a fixed background with transparent information and links?

I appreciated your reply regarding My special angel. My sister was thrilled with the tape I managed to get from the BBC here in Manchester. We played the track on the way into the crematorium today and again on the way out. The funeral went very well as far as those things go and, despite the fact I am a priest, I became bound up in the emotion of the day. I suppose in the end I am my sister's brother first and a priest second.

Many thanks for your able help in finding out so much about such an obscure song 40 years old.
