LITTLE IAN

March, 16, 2002:

I am useing a new product on Ian now, it is a soothing balm made from lavendar and other herbs that is for massaging into the temples to induce a peaceful sleep. The product is called "Sweet Dreams Balm" and Ian seems to really like it. I rub it into his ears so he can smell it, and it is also helping to get rid of the icky stuff built up on his ears as well.

Ian's bed: Since Ian cannot roll over or crawl anymore, he is turned about every hour, and no matter position he is in, there is always something bright and cheery to look at and smell :)

It's time for Ian's nap.....however, he doesn't seem to think so. He really loves to stare at this color wheel!

Another shot of Ian in his bed.

Big Smile :)................Ian cracking himself up!

Many WHS hedgies have a tendency to slump and their arms become somewhat transfixed into a downward position. This foam ball gently lifts and holds Ian's arms up to help prevent this from occurring to such a severe degree.

Our sweet Katie Ann, the protector of all the critters here, watches over Ian

"Say, whatcha doin tonight, sweetheart?"

Just me.....Ian's caretaker during his last week. I am heartbroken to say that little Ian is no longer with us. On sunday night his breathing became very labored, and after spending the night with him beside me, I realized it was time for him to be released from the body that was so obviously betraying him. Ian was peacefully euthanised Monday morning, March 18, 2002, surrounded by those who loved him; myself, Don and Marie. Ian's body was sent to Donnasue Graesser for WHS Research Studies and he will also participate in the Olfactory Research Program being done at MIT.
His struggle was not in vain.
Peaceful Journey, Sweet Boy, you will never be forgotten..........
Always in my heart,
Laura
