Questions and Answers

Q. What is WIA?
A. The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 is a Law to consolidate, coordinate, and improve employment, training, literacy, and vocational rehabilitation programs in the United States, and for other purposes.
It provides a comprehensive range of activities to assist job seekers, laid off workers, youth, incumbent workers, new entrants to the workforce, veterans, persons with disabilities, and employers.
Activities relate to employment, training and education, employer assistance, and guidance for obtaining other assistance with the intent of increasing the employment, job retention, earnings, and occupational skills of those enrolled.
Federal funds from the US Department of Labor are awarded to the State and then disbursed to the Local Workforce Areas to administer. The Local Administrator for BRAC funds locally is Partner's in Job Training and Placement.

Q. Is funding for re-training available at this time?
A. Funding is currently available for DFAS employees only. Additional funds will become available to those organizations affected two years prior to their date of dislocation. DFAS employees who will not be transferring to another job on island or those who will not be relocating with their organization should contact Jeanette or Linda at the I-Forces center to begin the application and enrollment process now.

Q. I understand you have Career Advisors from Iowa and Illinois. If I live in Illinois, do I have to schedule appointments with the Illinois Career Advisor?
A. No, you can schedule appointments with either counselor no matter what state you reside in.

Q. I would like to find a job on island and if I can't, I will choose to relocate. Can I still take advantage of the training program offered?
A. The training dollars offered through our program are for dislocated workers or those who will be unemployed when their organization's date of dislocation occurs. If your intent is to find employment as a government employee on island, or relocate with your organization you would not qualify for funding.

Q. I am planning to retire, but I will still need to work after my retirement. Would you be able to help me find another job?
A. Call Jeanette or Linda at the I-Forces Center for information about self-services and informational core services available to you.

Q. I have a business to sell, can you post it on your web site for me?
A. Unfortunately no, but if you give us the information we will post it on the bulletin board in our office.
