Ben is one of the twelve that escaped from Manticore in '09. Before the escape he was full of questions and had a lively imagaination. He would tell stories and put shadow puppets up on the wall after lights out for the other children. He had been deeply affected by picture of the virgin Mary one of the janitors had given Jack (who was having a seizure after lights out). He and the others gave their baby teeth to this blue lady so she would protect them from the nomalies in the basement.

After the escape the world, Ben didn't do so well. His questions remained unanswered, until his prayers took a deadly turn. He began killing people to prove his faith and donating their teeth to the blue lady. His killing spree caught the attention of Manticore, who after a few near misses, tracked him to Seattle, where they recovered his body. He had been injured in a fight with Max, and was unable to escape when the Manticore dragnet closed in. So at his request Max ended his fears of the nomalies by snapping his neck.
