Follow-Up! Don't Foul Up!

THE PARTY IS OVER,
BUT YOUR WORK HAS JUST BEGUN

All of the time, effort, energy, and money spent in completing a successful registration canvass will not yield its full results unless you and your leaders conduct an intensive and thorough follow-up on the information you have gathered. Your period of activity does not conclude with the end of the canvass. Here is a checklist of what should be done in the weeks and months ahead to maximize the canvass effort:

CHECK REGULARLY WITH YOUR COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS TO FIND OUT WHETHER THOSE ELIGIBLE VOTERS WHO WERE LOCATED DURING THE CANVASS ARE REGISTERING AND ENROLLING.

BEGIN A TELEPHONE AND/OR WRITTEN FOLLOW-UP TO THE UNREGISTERED FAVORABLES TO REMIND THEM TO REGISTER AND ASK THEM IF REGISTRATION ASSISTANCE IS DESIRED. (See Unregistered Voters Follow-Up Letter and Unregistered Voters Follow-Up Phone Pitch).

USE A CONTROL CHART TO KEEP TRACK OF ACTUAL REGISTRATIONS AS COMPARED TO POTENTIAL REGISTRATIONS. THIS SIMPLE MANAGEMENT TOOL WILL ASISST IN MEASURING PROGRESS AND GRAPHICALLY POINT OUT AREAS WHICH WILL REQUIRE GREATER FOLLOW-UP ATTENTION.

CONDUCT A PERSONAL FOLLOW-UP, USING PCOs OR VOLUNTEERS, TO THOSE VOTERS WHO WERE LOCATED ON THE CANVASS BUT WHO HAVE NOT REGISTERED WITHIN SEVERAL WEEKS OF THEIR CONTACT.

ISSUE A FOLLOW-UP PRESS RELEASE AT THE END OF THE CANVASS WITH STATISTICS ON HOW MANY RESIDENCES WERE CONTACTED, NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS INVOLVED, AND THE EXPECTED REGISTRATION RISE AT A RESULT (See Press Release).
